Teggykid Running Log *New Wheels*

Shake under acceleration could also be engine mounts. Check them out. Check for worn or loose hardware. Especially the driver and the passenger side tranny mount. Mine was the drivers side mount causing problems.

I’m wondering if it’s because I have the Innovative mount. Maybe because the rubber is more stiff? I’m not sure.

Terrible news guys. I have a hole in my transmission. It’s on the far left side (passenger). I can see it from the wheel well. I’ll take a pic in a second. Someone tell me there’s a way I can fix this…

Find someone that can weld aluminum maybe, since that case is aluminum… I would recommend just sourcing a new trans or a new case, the hole could be the result of internal damage i.e. blown diff.

Nah it’s not that bad. I’ll post a pic so you can see it. It’s hard to understand. But it’s basically a cylinder cut-out section that deals with 5th gear.

In the first pic you can see all the trans fluid that’s been flying around from where it’s dripping out

Wow! How did that happen? I’m no expert, but I did spend the night at a holiday inn, but that doesn’t look like it can be fixed…I could be wrong.

Well the metal right there looked like it had gotten hit. Like it was indented in. So before paint I grabbed some JB weld and covered in because the metal had kind of split and I didn’t want it to leak. I went somewhere today and my car was making some scrubbing/squeaking sound so I went to check it out and I noticed the paint and JB weld was peeling off. When I pulled it the round piece of metal came with it, leaving the hole. I’m going to call a welding place Monday to see if they can’t just weld a little patch over it. When I put it in 5th that little rod goes farther in so I’m not worried about it getting welded by accident. Plus, where it’s at now is as far as it comes out, so I’m also not worried about the weld getting in the way. It shouldn’t be a hard fix. But that’s just hoping  . I’m probably going to look for another tranny anyways because this one grinds 3rd gear, reverse, and it did 5th once or twice. Plus I think it’s a B16 tranny because at ~72mph I’m already at 3.5k RPMs. I think the LS trannies have a longer 5th than that

I totally agree with (teg fares) comments. Reason for is that the same exact thing happened to my tranny. first it started with a small hole then I j.b weld it together and no leaks, then I go to test drive it and boom. basketball size hole in tranny case and diff cracked along with spider gears.

No it looked like it had been dropped or hit when outside of the car because it was dented in. It’s actually not open to the case. That rod keeps it closed. It’s just oil leaks past the rod and gets blown around by the wind. I drove it back home a good 20 minutes after I saw the hole

Good news: Found a place that does welding. Guy said he can fix the hole.

Bad news: Not while it’s in the car, haha.

Looks like the tranny’s coming back out. Oh well. Should only take a couple hours to pull if that.

thats sucks man, good news is your gonna be a ace at pulling transmissions by the time all this is done

I would just get another transmission.

I fully agree with that. another case half at the very minimum

Hey Kev, did you ever get that tranny problem ever fixed ?

Not yet. Been busy with church after school. I’ll have it dropped Saturday probably. And as for getting a new tranny: pay $50 to have the whole welded>spend a month looking for a tranny that’s close enough to pay shipping for. You have to remember I live in damn Heart of Dixie Alabama. The few tegs that show up in junkyards get stripped immediately and no one around here sells any. I was lucky to come across the one I have now. And for only $150 invested, it’s not too bad. Sure it crunches 3rd, but a lot of them do. I’m just glad I have one that works

Dealing with grinding gears and such is going to only get worse. It would just be wise to get a best condition transmission. My 3rd gear and 5th gear pops out now and I can’t wait to be able to buy a nice transmission!

Oh I’m going to get a new one, it’s just going to take some time to find one. I’ll probably try to get a Frankenstein tranny. I’d love to take advantage of the torque while still keeping the mpgs. It’ll just take some time

Alrighty little update. Since I installed the tranny the first time, I had a hole appear at the end of it. Long story short I removed the tranny and had it patched. But because of where the hole was, there was a rod that moved back and forth for reverse and 5th. So when the welder patched it, the welds went too deep, causing me not to be able to engage reverse. So tomorrow I’m borrowing a butane torch and I’m going to heat up the spot, hopefully the metal will become malleable enough to where I can use the rod to put pressure on the spot and make room for it. Honestly, this is my last attempt to make this tranny work. If this goes wrong then I’m probably just going to wait to find another tranny cause I’m sick of dealing with this one.

On a better note, my birthday was this past weekend, and I ended up with a couple goodies for my teg. I’ve added a Wink mirror, a silver passwordjdm shift knob, and I ordered some stickers for my mirror. I’ll probably upload some pics tomorrow. Other than that that’s all that’s happened. Still have the shaking so idk what’s up with that.

WHo did your body work and think they could hook a fellow member up? I have a DB just like yours and I got crushed by an Explorer and no one has the balls to get the job done for me and I don’t know nothing about body work. It needs a quarter like what you did where you cut it out and welded new piece in.
