Teggykid Running Log *New Wheels*

Steve Johnson did mine and no, he probably wouldn’t hook you up haha. He doesn’t do cheap work. If you wanted that quarter done with a repaint it’d probably be a couple grand if not more. Like I said not cheap, but he does awesome work. Luckily Steve is a good friend of my dad so we got a sweet deal

Well I don’t have any problem spending the money I just need a quote so I know how much I need to come up with, body shops in my area don’t take anyone serious with old Honda’s like mine. It sucks so bad. I wanna restore it top to bottom.

I’ll see if I can get you his number. He’s located in Montgomery, AL. I know he was planning on stopping pretty soon so I’ll see if he’s even painting anymore.

Alright cool

 Now that I think about it that same shacking thing happened to me, it was the diff (weak old spline). Older Ls trannies are notorious for having weak differentials, another thing to look at is your cv axles they tend to shake when they are going bad. My car shakes under hard acceleration but that is because I don’t have tha auto/manual swap tranny mount. The same things that are happening to you are things I just went through with my tranny. Like the little hole on tranny, then the shacking, then grinding third, ultimately just went boom. Those are very similar to what you have talked about. So I would try to find another tranny or get ready to do a complete rebuild on yours. Which is exactly what I plan on doing to mine this winter. Best of luck to ya, you’ll defenitely need it.

The hole was something completely different. Mine doesn’t even do it under hard acceleration, it’s pretty much all the time in 3rd. It’s never consistent though. Sometimes it does it bad and sometimes it doesn’t do it at all. And yeah I’m definitely getting a new one. I got ripped off pretty bad on this one. Now I’ve come to find that fourth will also grind when shifting at high RPMs. I’d love to go talk to the guy whom my dad bought the tranny from. Fucking liar is what he is. I was told the transmission worked fine when they took it out. Now though, it’s obvious it’s seen plenty of abuse

If I were you I pull the damn thing out and say “here” now where is my money? or better yet hit him over the head with it and say here is your piece of shit tranny, :getsome:maybe then he’d get the picture.

Well like the other guy said the 90-91 Small spline transmissions and even the non lsd JDM B16 transmissions suck ass. The diff’s Honda used never held for shit and tore threw 4 of em in one race season cause of my clutch grabbing to hard and it just can’t handle that heavy duty. You said it wasn’t your diff but just my input. Use a 92-93 trans and I’ve never broke one and I launch at 6k at the track. As far as shacking you got wheel bearings, tie rods, axles, and balance. That’s about all there is to cause it. Hope this helps a litlle.

Tie rods are new, axles have only a couple thousand miles, and wheels are balanced. I could try bearings but the only thing is that it didn’t do this until I swapped to 5 speed

I would also recommend a 92-93 Ys1. The clutches are cheaper for that trans over the s1,y1,a1 and you will have more options if you ever decide to swap in a shorter gear set into that case. Whether it be b16, hydro gsr, or cable gsr. Plus the cost between the 90-91 and 92-93 trans should be the same.

Very much true and well said, dude (teg fares) knows his shit.

Another thing to remember is that you went from auto to manual and that can change the engine mount orientation unless you got a mount kit with an auto to manual transmission mount. Sometimes (On some vehicles) The cv axles or joints tent to cause a vibration or shacking when the motor/transmission is not aligned properly especially on the tranny side, so you should look in to those variables as well as the ones that (teg fares) had mention above.

The clutches are same price for all b series no matter the transmission I’ve never seen a website change a price between big and small spline and even so it would only be a few bucks. Really the only difference is the clutch disc. Pressure plate, pilot bearing, flywheel, etc can all be switched between big and small spline. Except for with using a Hydro trans then the throw out bearing is different.

But on topic they where right about axle geometry and stuff I tear threw axles all the time when my mounts where all jacked up and even with Innovative mounts I was destroying axles. Once I got the Hasports it was all good haven’t broke one yet but I steal destroy the boots left and right lol

Bearings and Tie rods easy to check though just jack it up and shake the wheels, If they have left to right play its usual tie rod, up and down play is most likely bearing but I’ve had some bearings so bad you think you need a tie rod too

My bad, I forgot to mention that, and that is true (1Slw4dr) on what you said. B-series clutches all cost about the same unless you have an s2000 or something of that nature, but technically they all should be around the same price. And yeah everything will swap over from tranny to tranny except for the clutch disk, unless it’s the same year and that’s assuming that the new tranny you get comes with the correct throw-out bearing, and if not then you can just buy the correct throw-out bearing for the corresponding tranny that you’ll be using. On a side note: DO-NOT use your automatic transmission flywheel bolts as they are different than the manual one’s and will cause an incorrect torque reading as you torque them down. Use manual flywheel bolts for a manual tranny and it will save you from a-lot of headaches down the road.

Small spline tranny VS Big spline tranny

***Small spline tranny: cable jdm 88-91 vtec s1/j1/y1 short geared & same clutch
usdm cable 90-91 s1/a1 non vtec (LS) long geared and still share same clutch as the jdm one’s

***Big spline tranny: (stronger, more reliable) cable usdm 92-93 ys1 (LS) long geared & different clutch than small spline (above)
usdm cable 92-93 ys1 (GSR) & jdm rsi/xs1 short geared & same clutch as above (ys1)
usdm & jdm 94-01 hydro tranny short & long geared s80/y80/y21/s4c all use the same clutch as above (ys1)

All Small spline tranny’s use the same clutch and All Big spline tranny’s use the same clutch also but they both are different from each other thus making them different in clutch (spline) size.

3m Window weld the stock mounts get a manual T bracket and buy 18 3/8 inch washers and buy 3 grade A 17mm transmission bolts which i believe i still have and can ship you if you want to pay the shipping they cost me $30 bucks used for a yr. I might have all the washers to and use the stock manual mount it will sit flush and level. Dont buy a $200 dollar mount! this setup should be sufficient for 300hp and the mounts are a mild race mount when your done. As far as axles, the axles seem to be stretched a bit depending on how low but dont worry should be fine unless your doing alot of track racing. you will need manual flywheel bolts. and a manual intermediate shaft as mentioned above.

I feel like you guys aren’t even reading my thread. I have the Innovative auto->manual swap mount. I’ve been driving this car, even without reverse. If you’re going to post, make sure you’ve at least caught up in what’s happening. Sorry if it sounds rude, I’m not trying to be. And that’s not directed to everyone posting. Thanks guy for the info. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for 92+ transmissions. I thought about the B16 but it’s already annoying hitting 4k RPMs doing 80mph so that’s a no. I’d do a frankenstein tranny if I had the money, but in the end I’m just looking for another LS. So if anyone knows someone selling, I’d be happy to make an offer. They’d probably have to ship, but those trannys are pretty small, so it shouldn’t be terrible.

Hey that sounds like a good idea, As for me I had to use a special bracket that one of my buddy’s fabbed for me at his shop instead going the other route and doing the washer thing like you used which is still not a bad idea. But the bracket that I used looks good although it still a little short (on height) if you know what I mean and my axles are still rubbing or being stretched like you said at certain points when I drive especially when I get on it.

And yes I do have a manual mount but it’s the oem one not the auto/manual conversion mount. I’m really trying to avoid buying it because if I do then I’ll also have to get the one on the t-belt side as well to match the rear hasport mount I already have. Sorry Kevin (Teggikid) I didn’t mean to jack up your thread, I was just relating to the other guy on my setup and if he had any suggestions to let me know because he didn’t get the aftemaket mount and neither did I. Back to topic

Where I live at there is a local Pick’n’Pull I’ve had great luck with on transmissions. Accord, Integra, Civic, etc I’ve pulled em all for friends and have yet to pull one bad one. Depending on what you’re trying to spend I could grab one for ya and ship it out. Let me know before it gets to cold cause I usually stop going in Nov/Dec when it gets to cold and don’t start going again until March.
