Well I’m not getting rid of the springs until I try them out, so if they suck I’ll probably send them back. I’ve heard good things about the Megan Racing sleeves though so I’m willing to try them. Plus while my car was out of commission I was driving a 96 Civic dropped on Blox springs with stock shocks, so it couldn’t be worse than that. I just can’t afford to buy $500-$600 coilovers. I would have to save for like a month and a half just to come close.
So I accidentally backed into my mom’s car today I’m usually parked behind everyone in the driveway and I just wasn’t thinking about it. I’m a little irritated, but luckily it’s not very noticeable because the car in lowered. My main concern is keeping it from spreading while I figure out if Steve who painted my car can redo it for me and how much he’ll charge me. I still have the paint he will just have to sand it down and re-shoot it. Anyways, on to the pics
This is actually the first “accident” I’ve ever had in the car
^^^^I guess you’ve never heard of Ground Control Coil Over Sleeves huh? Anyways, There is nothing wrong with sleeves. The key is to use a quality shock like a Tokico Illumina or even better Koni Yellow Shocks. The next key is to get a spring that is fairly long enough. Then, the next key is to get a spring rate that will be either used more for street or for track use. Street spring rates to use are probably around 5kg-6kg in front and 5kg-4kg in the rear. I’m using an 8inch in length spring in the front on my sleeves and 9inch spring in length in the rear and my ride is fine, but not comfortable like stock of course. You could probably go 10inch in the rear but 9inch seems fine for me. The ride will more depend on the shock, not because it’s sleeves. Also, if you have bad bushings, bad tie rods and steering rack which is for sure on the DA then the ride won’t be great anyways no matter what coilover system you get.
I’ve heard of GC, and I probably could have gotten those eventually. The only problem is I’m starting school in August at Auburn University. So I’m going to have to start paying for a lot more stuff, meaning broke college student status haha. I’m trying to get as much done to the car as I can before I won’t be able to afford anything anymore. In the end, I chose Megan Racing because I’ve heard good things about them, and while I was researching them one thing that was continually said was to get some good shocks. So yes, you’re definitely right about getting some better shocks, and I plan on doing so, but how soon depends on how well they ride with what I’ve got now. I’ve been rocking these Skunk2 springs with the GR2’s since I got the car, and it rides pretty well. Now from what I’ve read, I believe the Megan Racing sleeves are actually stiffer than the springs I have now. I’m going to double check on that one. Basically I’m just going to wait and see. If they ride like crap I’ll probably send them back. If I can’t send them back then I’ll just sell them for basically what I paid for them.
I was referring to da one, you posted before I could submit. Sucks about your bumper though.
Oh haha that makes sense. Yeah I’m probably going to get it resprayed
Alright well stopped by Steve’s today, and he’s said he could respray it for less than $100. Pretty excited about that! Hopefully he might have it done by this Friday when I head to the track. It would be a little weird to show up without a back bumper haha
lightweight dood. haha
Haha yeah. I’ll be adding bumper holes next for better aerodynamics! not really
I’ve heard of ground control by the way sir it’s actually made by eibach, I’ve never had them personally but one of my friends used to have koni/ground control setup up and to be honest with ya it wasn’t to bad at all. I like them with the konis but for that kind of money I’d rather get a full coilover setup because the ground controls with the konis run around 800-900 depending on where you get them at and for that kind of money you can get some teins, f&f, megan racing,skunk2 pro s 2,and the list goes on and on for a full true coilover setup. But like I said before in case you missed what I said before I said that was my opinion, but for the most part it is true. There are setups out there that are not full coilover suspension on peoples cars and do ride pretty good for the most part. I just said that because you can get a decent full coilover setup for around 500-600. I was thinking of getting the progress coilovers 2, they are sleved coilovers not a full coilover setup like I mentioned before but these offer great spring rates with no slop on their coilovers and the dampening is set from the factory and the are on sale right now for 550.00 so I’d like to give them a try if not then I’ll get the funtion and formz. So yeah there are a-lot of good company’s out-there that offer just about anything and everything we want for our cars you just have to know what your getting into so that you don’t get screwed like some of us have before in the past. I’m just trying to be a helpful person not an annoying one or a hater or anything like that just trying to help in anyway I can so I don’t see someone get screwed or a shitty deal cause they either didn’t know or weren’t aware of it. Sorry for jacking up your tread Kevin i’ll try to keep it to a very minimal.
It’s cool man, just don’t let that shit happen again… haha. Just kidding
You have a good spirit bro. I finally got my car running after a year of it being down & now it’s hydro tranny with a full hydro converted car done all by me. I hope to start a new thread on it soon after I gather up all of my info. What kind of tranny did you end up settling with ? I’m just curious . :ohyeah:
Koni Yellow with GC sleeves and good springs are WAY better than crappy skunk2, f&f, megan and whatever else made in taiwan coilover system out there. To get on that level you need to buy a real coilover system that’s probably $1000+.
I ended up with a POS LS transmission haha. Grinds like almost every gear when I shift at high RPM’s
Well today I redid my Home Depot lip, looks much better now. Also, dropped off the bumper at Steve’s shop and I’ll be picking it up Tuesday. For now the teg will have to look like this haha
I disagree with that statement, but then again that’s just my opinion and just like anyone else you are entitled to your opinion. I rather have something different then what everybody else has cause a-lot of people use that combo, not that there is anything wrong with that but there is so many other and better alternatives out there for that price IMO.
Sucks that shit happened to your car bro. Have you ever tried gm synchromesh(yellow bottle) made by penzoil ? it’s supposed to help with grinding gears and you can find it at your local auto parts store, look in the gear oil dept of the store. That would be your best bet cause its not supposed to be grinding or crunching at all, well except for third maybe. I have a spare b16 cable tranny that needs a case and a diff but I can sell you for cheap, I mean dirt cheap lol for parts or to use the gears so you can use them with a basically brand new exedy clutch still has the little hairs on it. Just in case you ever need it or whatever you know that I have so I got you covered mein.
I have seen some B16 transmissions for sale but I honestly want another LS. The gears are already short enough on this damn thing haha. I appreciate it though!
True Acura MTF always makes my 257k tranny feel amazing after a flush. I just change it every 6k.
I will sometimes get the grind if I try shifting like a madman, so I don’t haha. The grind is seriously so random tho.
Sometimes 2, sometimes 3. Doesn’t affect anything with how it drives or feel tho.
If I shift hard enough into 2nd or 3rd I can make it grind haha. Honestly I’m not going to bother rebuilding it, I’m just going to get another one
