QUESTION. when i was turning the car, it was off, i heard like a fshh or squirting sound and when i looked for the source my power steering fluid holder had fluid on the top of it like the plug popped out or something even though it was still in place. is it supposed to have an o-ring or something on it? any idea why it might do it? i thought it might have been a bad hose but the fluid is on the top leaking down so i have no idea.
If you turn the car very much with it off, it is common to build up pressure and spray some PS fluid out (I’ve seen it happen before). Just make sure it just sprayed out from under the cap and you don’t have a crack in the reservoir. If you had an o-ring on the cap, it would probably blow the top off any time it built up any pressure.
Looking forward to seeing some pics of it painted!
ok, as long as its normal im fine with it, yes it was the top, not the reservoir. yeah i cant wait until its done either, but it shouldnt be long until he starts priming and blocking at least the doors and other parts
I agree with stevo in his first post, whats important is to build your car the way you want it no mater what other people say or think.
Personaly I like what i see so keep up the good work:up:
Do your car whatever way you wanna do it. It just looks better if you give it some OEM luv! Dont let the haters get you down.
well guys, i pretty much decided on the color. its going to be…PINK! im totally kidding, it decided (for real) on the black/red flake combo. it think it will still have the clean black look i want but give it some flare in the sunlight. so ill be passing this info on to my dad in like 30 seconds cause i havent told him yet and we will tell steve so he knows whats up. going to work on the car tomorrow so maybe some more pics and an update!
Hey man, I like your car and progress so far. Do you have any plans for the suspension or are you just keeping it as is? Btw, how old are you, 15?
EDIT: just reread your first post…skunk2 coilovers…haha yay for reading!
Say teggykid952,
Dude, I think your doing a great job and good work on your ride.
Keep up the good work and follow your ideas for the ride.
Continue to keep us posted on your improvements as they are completed.
Peace…
P.S. teggykid952,
If your 15 years of age - then wow. When I was your age at 15 years old, I was only cutting lawns in my neighborhood for only 10 cents each. I knew that I was getting ripped off, and the customers of mine knew of it also. I am old, so not to make myself look bad here, I’ll keep my age to myself.
lol, its cool DAteg, at least you fixed the mistake. :read: hahaha, but thanks for the comment, i wrote that a long time ago so i really don’t know what im gonna do right now, its not really at the top of my list since the springs on it are fine although i think the shocks might be blown cause when we moved it from the building to the one with the compressor my dad noted that it kinda doesn’t have any suspension if you know what i mean.
thanks proir for the advice/comments, i’ll keep her coming along how i want, lol. i usually put updates of everything, from just ordering parts to the smallest updates in sanding or whatever. if it was 10 cents for you i imagine you’ve some years (no disrespect) but it probably means you have more experience than most of us, i assume. like this next update!
UPDATE
went and worked on the car a little more today, i think we did the compression test wrong again are you supposed to leave the other spark plugs in? if not, i have a problem. because when we did it, it would go up to like 175-180 but loose the pressure really fast, which is why i think all of them are supposed to stay in? anyways we didnt get much done because it was raining so we couldnt move the car to the other building (we only put it outside and ran the hose outside because there is no room in the shop itself) so we had no compressor, we have a portable one but there is no power in the building its in. added on top of that i got sick in the past 2 days and im really tired and lightheaded so trying to sand by hand made it to where i had to sit down and rest. but enough of that, dad sanded a little of the passenger side top part above the door and i started on the rear passenger door jam (no pics, not really a noticeable difference). took the headlights out and rear bumper. anyone know what goes in front of the valve seal on the left side of the motor towards the front? i dont have a pic but i know on the 3rd gen tegs there is something in front of it, idk. also RedLine replied back to me on the seats and tails, he got the payment and he’s been really busy, but they should get shipped next week i think is what he said, maybe this week. i just feel better that he replied, cause i was starting to get worried
. ill have to put the pics later because i used new SD card, the SD HC cards, and my card reader, nor my camera will pick up the photos (i used a different cam but i only have chord to the computer for this one), and my dad has the laptop which is the only way to get the pics off because it had the sd card slot built in. but they aren’t anything new so your not missing out to much, hahaha
Likeing the build. I would rethink the color, remember your only getting older. Not that picked a bad color but whats cool at 15 isnt always “cool” in a month, a year, 5 years+.
I also dont know how long u plan on keeping the car. But keep up the good work. My car is hopefully getting painted the end of this year.
I went from wanting a black DA,then wanting a mineral blue DA, and now i want a ridgeline green DA, so thats the color its going to get sprayed.
no, i love black cars, i always have. and i still wanted black, just something that had a little more to it and hide some of the imperfections because this car is in rough condition, it was hit on the driver side back door/quarter panel area. tons of dents on the roof, hood, and trunk lid, you get where i’m going. just needed something to take away from them, even though im sure steve could do an amazing job with straight black. do you have any ideas? i still have to use black paint and bronze wheels
Throw a little bit of metallic brown in the clear so it has the root-beer look?
Black is a PITA to keep “clean” if you live in a dusty climate. Thats the whole reason im repainting mine. Im usually against repainting a car unless your going to do the engine bay, doors jams and what not. But im tired of washing my car and it gets dirty instantly. And the door dings, and nicks… dont get me started!
lol, its not very dusty around here, but it will still probably be harder to keep clean, but we have already spent $500 on black paint and clear so i have to integrate black one way or another, but thanks for the tips. and yes, my car is getting the whole 9 yards, door jams, bay, little corners, ect.
any updates ?
the one i put was from today, the only thing that comes to mind is im buying a black, oem steering wheel from a guy tomorrow probably, but i may have already mentioned this? more updates this weekend and maybe this week depending on what happens with my latest buys
cool looking good
thanks man, its coming along pretty good, a bunch of parts coming in pretty soon so be looking forward to those! i think the steering wheel might get in by the end of the week? seats will take longer because of the larger package.
thanks for all the comments everyone and stay tuned for updates!
ok, some updates.
UPDATES
Not really a whole bunch of stuff done to the car recently. Bought a leak down tester and was having trouble figuring out how to use it when we asked the mechanic next door and he messed with it and showed us that is was not working correctly (darn you Harbor Freight) but we did a compression test (with his tester this time and him doing it) and with new rings it should be about 150-160 across :down::down: . we might get the top end rebuilt or just put new rings and run it how it is for as long as possible. But for now its just gonna have to work. Aside from all the bad news, here some good news! my 2 front seats and tail lights came in today, the back seat should be coming tomorrow. The only thing is one of the little plastic pieces was broke in the shipping process. I cant put pics up yet because i have no AA batteries in my house AT ALL. So pics when i get some, haha. Like i said the other 2 packages should be here tomorrow and i think my steering wheel too. Its all starting to come together, next on the list are new headliner and a carpet kit!
remember when doing a leak down, If you go past top dead center. you have to go all the way back around. if you just go back you will get a bad reading cause you unseat the ring(or whatever the term for it would be)
I learned that the hard way, then after trying to figure out why my reading where so low on the first 2 cylinders when I knew they shoulnt be, my mechanic pointed out what I was doing wrong.
what do you numbers look like? are you geting a 90 % leakdown on anyof the cylinders?
I LIED
i managed to find some batteries hiding in the top of a cabinet, heres the pics!
im missing the handle cover for the passenger seat to slide the chair back, anyone know where i can get one? might just get the broke piece and that from the pull-a-part junkyard. also, is that seat adjust thing normal? ive just never seen it before, just wondering
