Ok, finally, some updates for everyone.
Blew a transmission. Like, almost cracked it in half. It was spectacular. So I have replaced it with another '90 transmission.
A few weeks ago (I think 2, maybe 3), I was driving it down the highway when the unthinkable happened. I’d been having issues with oil pressure, but only at idle, and I was preparing to instal a manual gauge in the car to get a better sense of what I was dealing with, but it blew the oil pump and seized. There’s a MASSIVE hole in my block from where the bearings shot out.
Last week, I picked up a low-miles B20Z2, and I’ve been in the process of swapping it over.
I just bought a lot of OEM parts.
•Valve Cover Gasket w/ grommets for spark plugs
•Intake Manifold Gasket
•Exhaust Manifold Gasket
•Timing Belt
•Water Pump
•Tensioner
•Oil Pump Assembly with new Seals for strainer, etc
•Rear Main Seal
List to still buy:
•Redline MTF (or OEM, not sure yet)
•Coolant
•Coolant/Vacuum Lines
•Thermostat/Gasket
Not sure if I’m going to do a clutch at the same time, or a flywheel. Probably not, even if it is the right time to do it, but I’m at least $5K into the car since I bought it, with the transmission and engine work, and it hasn’t been out of the garage. I’ve got the itch to drive it, and I want it pretty much a DD, no racecar only mods for me, thankyouverymuch.
Was originally planning on doing a GSR or Type R swap into it, but they were too old, too high miles, too difficult to swap right now on my limited time/space, and too expensive for my poor ass. So I’m doing a properly built B20Z2, with all the right replacement parts. Hopefully no blown engine or fire this time.
Pics are coming, too tired tonight.
You are Michael knight ! I’m digging your wheels.
In for pics!
Sounds like a solid plan, vtec power plant or not.
Is that a Knightrider reference? LOL I always did like the Trans Am…
Pics are hard when everything is being done by me. LOL
Should be a couple more weeks to go!
