The Devondangers Build Thread!

So to start off, I’m not nearly as well off as some DA owners, I’m out of work, in school, and thus, I have next to no money or time to work on my DA. This is a chronicle of the build I will be doing and have done.

Story’s simple as to how I got into the DA world. I drove a friends DA a long time ago, before it was really legal for me to drive, really, and fell in love with the handling. 90+ MPH up a mountain road was pretty fun, though I really don’t do it anymore.

I consider the DA Integra one of the best looking vehicles ever produced by Honda, so when I got my driver’s license, I went looking for one. It was 4 years and 3 cars later before I got one: a 1992 GS with 148,000 miles on it. So everyone, meet Suki.

Bought it and immediately replaced the timing belt and water pump, spark plugs, ignition wires, and oil. While under the knife, she got a valve cover gasket and new oil rings for above the spark plugs.

Been a great 6 months. No leaking water, rarely get the flickering climate control lights, and I have blown hatch struts, but almost everything else is good.

Interior:
Tan leather is shot in the front, starting to be shot in the back as well. I’ll probably get them re-upholstered at some point. The carpet is downright nasty under seats and floor mats (which aren’t original), and the steering wheel is slightly faded. But the dash has had the dash cover on it most of its life, so mint. :salute:

Exterior:

Black, with GS/GSR alloy rims. Needs paint work eventually, but it works for now.

Engine: Stock, with ABS, PS, and AC.

My plans for the DA are awesome (to me).
For the exterior, I want to go with a Stratospheric Blue or something similar for the color, and spray or powdercoat the rims the same color to touch them up. (see Blkack1’s Build Thread).
Interior wise, I’m torn between buckets and re-upholstering. I like the idea of originality, and the stock seats hold well, but if I go racing, I’ll probably upgrade to racing buckets. Interior trim will probably be changed to black, as well as the carpet, which is terrible.

Engine Mods:
This is where planning gets fun for me, as almost everything else is going to be restored, not riced. Unless I steal Mr. Penny’s factory kit he’s rumored to keep around. :run:

Plans to keep the ABS are up in the air, as well as PS. I know I will be daily driving this car for the most part, so AC and PS will be appreciated, and ABS is great in winter, but I don’t like the weight or the room it takes up in the bay. I had considered an H2B, but seeing as this is really my first build and I’m daily driving it, not as wise. A B18C is too expensive, and I don’t feel like having to hit VTEC to hit power. I like my low end grunt. As for an LS/VTEC, I’m well aware of their positives and negatives, I just don’t want to build one and be unlucky enough to blow it up.

-My build will probably start with a B20 , then eventually a turbo set up (like mini;)), and rebuild/strengthen the lower end of the LS block, then get a B16 or B18C head and go nuts building a reliable LS/VTEC turbo set up. If I want to keep it mild, I might not turbo at all, and if it’s wild, it’ll be a B20/VTEC turbo. Lots of options to go with.

-I want a full ES suspension kit, which is probably my next purchase.
-Ball joints will be forthcoming, as mine are showing their age (I do inspect them for damage and movement often).
-Star Specs for competition days at High Plains Raceway.
-Subframe brace.
-ITR Sway Bar or similar aftermarket one.
-Kill switch for when she will no longer be allowed to reside in a garage.
-Need to do battery and cables soon (kill me).
-Coilovers
-Battery relocation.
-wire tuck.

Shout out to Mini, BLKACK1, and Mr. Penny, all who made me feel welcome to G2IC.

Just yesterday put on Advanced Auto Parts Blank rotors and HAWK HPS pads.

Now, I can launch small objects into orbit from my back seat if called upon by NASA.

Finally have your own thread huh!!! Its about time. haha Looking forward to seeing you at meets and def the track!!

What she said /\

No problem man, glad to have another good guy on board!

Sweet glad to hear you ended up getting those

Well, i’ve fixed most of the obvious problems for now. What’s odd is that while my brakes were warped more than Star Trek’s Enterprise, I had considerable brake fade. Felt like I needed a new master cyl. Now, I have no problems with brake pressure or fade. I’ll still be looking for symptoms, but I’m in the clear for now.

Next project is most likely going to be a new battery and positive cable. Don’t want to, but it’s pretty bad. :frowning:

After that, if nothing else has broken, I’ll tackle some of the interior projects I needed. Also discovered that while mostly rust-free, Suki does have a few light spots. No big deal for now.

I figure any job will do, but come March, i’ll be back in school for Brakes II (and certification in brakes and ABS systems). Looking forward to it, because I’ll also be able to get Suki on an alignment rack and straighten the alignment back out (hit a curb testing tires).

Pics are coming for how bad my brake rotors were scored. I’m lazy today, so maybe this evening.

Wow, just realized I haven’t posted pics of that yet. :frowning:

Tomorrow.

PICS! Old rotors. Sorry for the delay.

all we get is one pic of a cruddy old rotor:bored: lol its about time buddy

LOL yeah… I didn’t get pics of the install. Nothing new on that note.

haha its all good. im sure it looks the same

Brakes never really change in appearance unless I were to do Legend or Wilwood brakes. Which I’m not, at least not yet.

Plus, look at the scoring on this rotor. Pretty badly warped, and that groove is like 1/16th of an inch deep.

Close call with the death of a gen 2 Integra: Mine. Maybe naming cars IS bad luck, as Glynn claims, but some lady in a Tahoe fucking rear-ended me. I slipped the damn clutch and stalled it (not a common occurrence I’ll have you know), and she wasn’t paying attention. My bumper is a might bit messed up and scratched…

BLKACK1 Offered the use of a buffer, so we’ll see if it can get them out. Could use a good wash/wax anyway.

Alignment is FINALLY done right. Stopped by FRCC and put my car on the alignment rack. Thanks to Glynn and CO. for helping get it close. In spec on the right side, out on the left, and one hell of a lean in the steering wheel, all corrected now. New Bridgestone Pole Position A/S tires within a week or so. (can’t BELIEVE how hard it is to find 145/60R14 wheels in this state…)

The bad news about the alignment is that I have about .5 degrees of positive (or negative, I can’t remember) castor. I have a bent suspension part somewhere.

Next on a lost of things to do for this Teg are as follows.

  1. New control arms, tie rods, ball joints and bushings
  2. New Battery and cables
  3. ABS pump
  4. New bumper support. I hate how my bumper sits so far back and doesn’t line up right.

Been looking more into the F20B swaps. Bit of a catch 22 on that is either modifying the transmission tunnel/mounts or going F2B, which leaves no hood clearance. Still, a low boost, quick spooling turbo for the lower end would make it really good. Smooth power band, etc.

Not sure about wiring, but I do know that I really, REALLY, R E A L L Y. want this (http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc2000search.cgi?what=page&item=30013) sitting under the hood, and this sitting in my dash:

:hump:

If I do the swap (which I might…), I’ll do a detailed write up. And by that, I mean Mr. Penny and BLKACK1 will, as I will have tied my hands in knots by then.

if you really want the f20b it would go f2b. i know hood clearence would suck but with the b-series tranny it will be a monster. had a friend with a h2b with stock h22 and ls tranny and put down 180 whp.

Im getting pretty good at that. “thinks about building a string alignment box”

You were off by almost a degree on the RH tire, but I think it’s fine, now that I corrected it.

good deal man, yeah thats the first thing I tell people. Ill get it good enough to get it to the allignment shop:D glad you got it taken care of
