The ever elusive Hybrid DA suspension Article

Subframe. dont know.

The UCAs will fit but I am 90% sure they will change your caster and camber. I dont know if its for the better.

Ben

Hey just wondering if the people who have done this can post actual pictures of their cars with the hybrid suspension. Thanks.

Here are pics of mine - setup is listed on the previous page (your car will not sit this level unless you have coilovers or an adjustable spring perch - like on Konis or my Ohlins):

My dirty car:

Front:

Rear:

The complete setup plus stock ITR struts:

The Ohlins are for sale here (sold the springs and top hats already):

I’ll post my latest setup sometime soon.

Thanks for the post, I appreciate it. Do you (or anybody here) know if I install just OEM EG/DC struts and EG/DC lowering springs is the car going to be pretty much even, or the rear lower? by lower I mean like there’s abuch of weight on the rear of the car lower. Thanks.

bump for answers!

rear will usually sit lower

thanks for the info

i dont know if this has been brought up but i put DC skunk2 pro s coils on my DA. i used the DC forks and my problem is if i go all the way down in the front my car sits completely on the bumpstops and still isnt that low. i took the bumpstops completely out and had to raise the coils 2.25 inches in the front to keep from bottoming out. im guessing the DC fitment has taller shock bodies?? just a heads up for any one looking to run DC coils on their DA. ive seen other DAs on the same coils but the DA fitment ones alot lower than me with no issues at all.

I just finished the swap and Im rubbing. i use the car as my track car and im not really excited about grinding on the fork. does anyone know of an alternative? im kinda running out of time cuz im at road atlanta in a week.

Hey G2IC i just bought ground control coilovers for my DA. I blew a rear shock when the shock sat sideways because the dust gaurd got stuck on the coil over :frowning: Anyways I work at autozone and i needed a quick fix. I bought a 94 dc rear shock for my DA. It fit right in only thing i needed was a nut and a washer because the the Gabriel rear shock didnt have the nut welded to the shock like the oem do. Just my .02 cents everything fits in the back.

i friend of mine has a 4door civic 98 with Ksport Full Coilovers, he wants to trade me for my “DC on DA’s” Suspension, KYB GR2 and omnis, i read the whole article but still can’t seem to get if these “EK Suspensions” will fit my actual DA converted to DC suspension in the trade, anyone can help me on this?:worry:

So there is a possibility that if I run ITR LCA’s and DC front forks that I might rub?..Does anyone know what may be causing this. I have already bought both the suspension parts but I’m not going to commit to buying shocks until this gets sorted out…I’m looking to get the Tein Flex system so I don’t want to drop over $1200 and find out it’s not all compatible!!!

There is a good chance that the DC front forks will rub against the axles. Mine did not constantly rub, but there were marks from where they had occasionally. There is very little distance between them. If you don’t want it to happen, you can either stick to DA or EF suspension or take something and grind down the inner part of the front fork where it touches to create more clearance.

hmm… looks like I’ll be sticking with my stock set up…oh well, now to search for coil overs that are height adjustable without affecting spring rate…D

I have a question that I dont think has been covered here yet…

Will it be ok to use the AGX fronts for the DA setup and the AGX rears for the DC setup without changing anything at all?

Or are the dampening qualities in the 2 setups so different it would make a mess of things…

Dampening should be about the same. The cars weigh about the same. The difference is mainly that the DC rear struts are shorter. The main reason for most people doing the hybrid suspension is not because the other models have different characteristics. It’s not like DC struts are far superior to DA struts. Yes, some do want the rear struts to go lower, but I have yet to see any great benefits from doing this, since you are still limited by the front travel. The main reasons are people either coming across deals on parts for other models or wanting to get a part that is not specifically made for the DA.

GR-2’s?

Its says in the original article that the springs are responsible for ride height not the shocks. But my car already sits a tiny bit lower int he rear so there is no way I want to chance it.

KYB doesnt make rears for the DA so I either use the ones for the EF, DC or Just go with the KYB GR-2’s all around. (Cuz for some ridiculous reason they make those for both front and rear)

Anyone running GR-2’s? They gonna give the the bite Im looking for when cornering? Cuz I can get a super deal on Monroe Sensatrak’s if they might be better.

I dont want some super stiff that bangs off of every pothole but I just need something that isnt going to bounce when i hit 70 miles an hour like the stock shocks I am running with my H & R blacks.

Any help is appreciated.

That is an extreme example, but does that answer the question? (more pics here: http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154601&highlight=post+suspension+setup&page=10) The point about struts not affecting ride height is that the valving inside the strut will not change the ride height ie if it is softer or stiffer. However, using a strut that has a different overall length will affect ride height.

If you are looking for a good performance strut, go with the KYB AGX or Tokico Illumina or Koni Yellow. KYB GR-2 is going to be a stock replacement as is the Monroe (they are not good for lowering). The EF strut is going to be much closer to the stock height than the DC.

Bouncing sounds like blown struts to me. Just about anything will probably be noticeably better.

K man you say go with the AGX but they dont make AGX for the DA rear.

And you suggest not using the DC or EF rear cuz its shorter so lol

Im not sure what options that leaves me.

Id liek to go AGX but yeah…

What do you think?

One more thing…What do you guys think about using the DA AGX for the front and the GR-2 from the EF for the rear?

Is it just me or does it make sense that if the GR-2 is designed for normal ride heaight and its shorter than stock…And the AGX for lowered ride height…That should balance out.
