the breather isn’t suppsoed to hold any fluids. you should really only have a tiny bit in there, if any at all.
i guess i just got confused w/ what everyone was sayin about the realtime racing setup. i realize that the p/s fluid doesn’t lube the rack at all anyways.
I just reinstalled the little springs and shit, and drove around… :manual:
Still 0 steerign difficulty, no change at all, seems even easier then WITH my PS and now…NO MORE PLAY!
Driving my car now is like having sex with god. :burnout:
looping lines on the tranny for what? i didnt see that in the original write-up and ive been driving for 3 weeks w/o anuthing looped, just undid the lines and removes them all. what needs to be looped at the tranny and is it important?
Sort of, the VSS. It IS lubed by PS fluid, so you really ought to…Just cut a tube from the VSS on the tranny to make it 6-8 inches long, fold it over and connect it to wherre the other one came out, after filling it with fluid.
i re-installed my shit too…
SOOOO much better, there is absolutely NO play now. i love it. thanks swedboy :manual:
so after reading all of this, it seems that the cheapest way to do this with the best results (without swapping in a manual rack) is just to loop the 4 lines and then the two lines off the tranny, correct?
so i get under there, cut the lines, loop them, and that’s it?
how do i get all of the old PS fluid out?
no, you still will need to take the valve body off and remove 2 springs and 2 slugs… dont worry its really easy.
which 2 springs and two slugs.
i don’t want to take out the wrong ones because it looks like some people took them out and then had to put them back in because of play in the steering wheel.
Step 4: The bolt marked in blue is the one that will not come out all the way. The parts marked in red are what you will be removing. The long rod-type piece will slide out either direction, and behind it will be 2 metal slugs, followed by 2 springs, followed by 2 more metal slugs. Also, there are 2 springs to the right in the picture. Behind them are a couple valves that will come out.
do i slide out the rod and remove the slugs/springs behind it?
or do i take out the two springs and two valves?
dont touch that valve with the rod going through it. you need those and all the crap behind it.
just take out the 2 springs and valves behind them.
is this right?
no, you still will need to take the valve body off and remove 2 springs and 2 slugs… dont worry its really easy.
i didn’t do this, and mine seems fine… i just made sure once i cut the lines that i turned the steering wheel back and forth till all the fluid was out. if you don’t, steering is incrediblly hard to do, b/c of the friction of the fluid that is left in there. i didn’t touch the valve body b/c of the slop everyone is talking about. i did exactlly what you said as far as what to loop. it took me a good 4 hrs though to fully remove all the lines, pump, cooler, etc.
good luck!
when you turn the wheel, do you have to leave one of the valve body lines open for the fluid to come out?
Removing the valves is essential for a good feel. Night and day. takes 20 minutes inclduign settign up, what needs to come will rpoabbyl fall out when you take off the cover, and it helps draine verything. Teh sex.
what valves are you talking about… the two in my picture that are labeled “remove?”
I pulled everything except for the middle bar…which I pulled too and then reinstalled. So everything you can get at except the middle bar and its direct pins.
is it really necessary to loop the lines???
if the PS doesnt lube the rack, what is the point of looping the lines?
is it really necessary to loop the lines???
i just did it so dirt/debris doesn’t get into the rack. yes, leave a line open w/ some kind of bucket underneath cause it’ll come squirting outta there. i love how it feels now, i can’t imagine i would see that much more of a difference by messing w/ the valve body…to each his own though. i can still turn w/ one hand, you just gotta hold on tighter…
thelate1 - so all you did in terms of the rack was drain the fluid and loop the lines, correct?
racingpoverty - armedferret only took out those valves to allow pressure to come out. can you explain what you mean by the ‘feel?’
thelate1 - so all you did in terms of the rack was drain the fluid and loop the lines, correct?
yes, looped 4 lines as per drawing in this thread, and looped the 2 lines on the tranny(vss).
like i said, i also removed everything else…
good luck!
