So basically, what would happen if I just out my PS pump and looped it @ the rack? How would it feel, how long would this last?
I’ll have to put those parts back in mine and see what happens. Good thing I saved them.
anybody need a looped rack? i’m parting out a car that’s getting rebuilt with different components, thought i’d offer it up.
Bumping this up. I don’t think I read this in the thread unless I missed it. But when doing the EF manual rack do you use the DA tie rod ends or EF tie rod ends? Or either?
i use DA. i’m sure ef would work though.
how about to remove power steering, just take all the power steering parts off the car, and drain all the fluid? is there anything wrong with that?
well, it helps to replace them with other parts so that you actually have steering components on the car, but yeah. that’s basically it.
well i mean take the power steering parts off the car like the pump, and lines. im not talkin about the actual steering rack.
then in that case, read the thread. it’s all in there.
im putting ps back in my db1 this week. wish me luck. :run:
traitor.
all i did was remove all the lines except for about 1 inch of the three lines coming from the rack. then i pinched them shut. that should work, right? the car doesnt have an engine in it right now, so i havent been able to test it.
sure hope it doesn’t leak (hint: the only lubrication the system has is the p/s fluid–some has to remain in the rack or it’ll eventually sieze up).
I think a good option would be to install the 88-91 manual rack and during the install since you have it out anyways, install the Quaife Quick-Ratio Rack and Pinion Kits located here.
I plan on doing this in the near future and I’ll make sure to document everything and put together a video showing steering lock to lock.
I’m all about visual aids…
anyone ever try the quaife rand and pinion?
Not yet.
What’s your MOS?
I have the quaife kit already. Just slacking on getting the rack. Actually my friend is supposed to pick one up from his friend but he’s slacking on it. Once I get it I’m going to order the new parts to rebuild it when I put the quaife kit in.
I have the DX rack already but haven’t installed it…does anyone have any pics of what needs to me modified to get it to work?
I went back through all these pages and answered a few of the questions I had myself so I edited the post…
Anyone know what sizes the holes are for the 4 lines are on the bottom, I want to use new fittings instead of chopping up the current lines.
Excellent write-up, I have about 70% of my PS removed, hopefully finishing it up this weekend. Man, some of the bolts for the lines are a b!tch to get too.
^^^^^^^^
Bump for the question above. how bout the thread pitch?:salute:
it’s in the helm manual.
