holy frack the game doesnt even run on the newest macbook pro 15" at a playable rate. I’ll have to move my desktop with a Radeon 5850 in over the weekend.
all versions of the beta are running at only 30fps.
retail version will be around 60fps.
I don’t like the way BF3 plays, it looks old and it’s just as cheap as any other 1st person shooter. Played the beta for a couple hours online and decided eh no reason to buy this game.
I think it’s funny that people are expecting the beta to play like the release version. lol
^
this.
DICE has stated that this beta’s build is several months old. The purpose was just to stress test the servers, while providing a “general idea” of the experience. A few people I’ve talked to that have the “gold version” (aka, Retail Version) says that the final product is much better in all areas. graphics, gameplay tweaks have been made, even the audio is dramatically improved.
so much was compressed to make this beta a fairly small download.
on a related note…
I have decided to stop playing Bad Company 2. Tired of playing against people who seem to be invincible. The general formula for death is usually as follows:
shotgun + face = die
If I shoot you 4 times in the FACE with a semi auto shotgun at damn near point blank range, logic tells me that you should die. Instead, they receive those shots to the face like Jenna Haze, and turn around and kill me with TWO bullets from a UMP.
RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT.
lol the fps problem was just a point I was making. Game’s tough on computers and the min system requirements dont cut it at all even on low settings. They did state that only 2 GTX 580s will play the Ultra settings well.
Played on my desktop…it was tough at first but i got the hang of it now (i think partially cause i was using a mouse i wasnt familiar with…i usually use a G500). SOOO much easier sneaking up/flanking people and knifing it’s ridic. Or, they’re COD noobs with tunnel vision. I have more knife kills than any single gun kill. The recoil i hated at first (which is a dramatic departure from BC2), but then didnt mind it.
I’m sticking with my pre-order. Karkand here i come!
Game probably will still suck.
Why is everyone so mad about camping? Use your brain and kill them. Ever since BF2 campers just make it so I don’t have to go anywhere to get kills…they all just come to me.
Also, I played the beta on console for about 10 minutes and it inspired me to finish my PC. Played for about 10 hours on the PC before the beta ended, Good riddance console, so glad to be back to PC.
second game on PC, lulz.
Not sure why it’s showing up so small, whatever, 12:1 KDR, second place score.
btw it’s 41.99 on Amazon digital download. 20 bucks discount isnt too shabby on a brand new game. Canceled my physical order and my friend canceled his Origin pre order.
From what I’ve seen recently of the retail version of the PS3, it’s not THAT much different than what I’ve seen of the retail PC version. Visually, the PC has a pretty good edge, but PS3’s version still looks pretty good. A LOT better than the beta.
I want to build a nice PC and get this game on PC as well, but my funds aren’t allowing it. That, and I have approximately ZERO experience with PC online FPS games. I do feel that the PC players had it made with the addition of Caspian Border. I would have LOVED to played that map, too. Oh well. Less than 2 weeks and I’ll be on every map.
Can’t wait to try my hand at some long range sniping. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a very aggressive player when I’m using any other kit (which is more often, btw). But, something is just so gratifying about those ignorantly long range head shots from a sniper rifle
The Map I’m looking forward to, is one that I JUST read about:
Damavand Peak - “Fighting in Winter Mountains” - “Features the most extreme height differences ever in a Battlefield map. The only way down to the valley is to make the 500 meter descent”.
source:
9 maps at launch. Not counting the bonus maps in the “Back to Karkland” Pre-Order bonus for the Limited Edition versions. Which would bring it up to 13. Not a bad start, if you ask me. No word yet, if there will be any future maps available for DLC. I’d LOVE a redone map of Arica Harbor from BC2.
Deal is dead, it’s back to $51. I got in on it in time for the $41 though.
@blu PC does have it made because that’s where BF started, console should just be happy with the table scraps they get because it’s still leaps ahead of COD.
i played caspian border for a bit before it closed…it was pretty awesome flying. Flying with the mouse > keyboard. kind of sucks how jets only have the vulcan cannon though. I dont care about AtA missles since dog fighting with guns is where it’s at, but at least like some sort of bomb for AtG would be nice… like napalm or something.
I never got a chance to fly the jets on the beta so I can’t speculate. How was it compared to BF2? I’m sure the option of no AtG bombs is because the amount of rape that occurred on BF2 when I good pilot (myself) got ahold of the jet on a populated server.
is there a decent single-player/campaign mode, or is it just online play?
i can’t stand the online shit…too many 9-year-olds calling you a faggot nigger jew every 3 seconds because their mothers are off somewhere sucking cock for crack.
For those who can’t take it… there’s this newfangled option called mute…
its easier flying in BF3…I could never really get the hang of it in BF2 since in bf2 you could easily fly out of the map and die so i never really flew in BF2. In BF3 they fixed that by allowing you to go “off map” a little farther and you weren’t constrained to being directly over the map.
i noticed it’s harder to make bank turns with the mouse. Going left or right is more like using the flaps to point the nose left/right, etc. It does make it a lot easier to line up the gun. If you’re evading lock on, keyboard definitely for sharp bank turns. A lot of people whined about engineers being mobile AA but i found it to be pretty easy…never got shot down by a missile or had to use flares. I was shot down by the AA tank or small arms fire over time.
and as far as unnecessary mic chatter, if you’re on PC you can just use Ventrilo with your squad mates.

I use either ventrilo or teamspeak over bluetooth some times even when i’m on ps3… Totally cuts out the retards…
…but sometimes i like just picking a fight… hahahaah
BF3 camp fest… mw3 run and gun… ill take mw3 all day over that game.

totally understand the sentiment. Sometimes I intentionally troll just to make the kids rage. It’s hilarious!
I was the first person in my town to possess the game Picked it up for PS3 at exactly 12:00 tonight.
after going 6 rounds undefeated, and placing near the top each time, I’m willing to bet I’ll have a lot of play time over the next few weeks.
Compared to the Beta, the graphics, gameplay, and everything else are a LOT better. At least on PS3. i don’t know how the PC version plays, but I can’t imagine it being anything less than epic. First map I played? Operation Firestorm on Conquest. Jets are fun. Will take some getting used to. But, they’re great.
yea, i love the PC version except i had CTD (Crash to desktop) and got DC-ed a total of 3 times in a span of about 1 hour… 2 of the times i happened to be doing really well and it didnt save my stats. sigh. oh well. Some lagginess in some maps that VSR can attest to (i landed him in front of a tank lol…) but overall it’s everything i hoped for in the successor to bf2.
Some minor collision problems but overall a much better experience over the beta. I love it and will see myself spending a lot of time playing it. I am enjoying my $41 immensely.
you PC bf3 players can find me under the same alias as my G2ic name.
