please avoid these at all costs. some may produce decent head units and/or subs in their top line, but just stay away from them for amps. a general rule of thumb, if its not rated in RMS power, it sucks. but if you must know, i usually just divide the total watts by 4 and that may be the power you actually get at 4 ohms. dont even think about the PEAK power, its a joke. on to the list:

feel free to add your findings from your local swap meet!
i will vouch for the lightning amps being shite! i have (had) a 200 watt 2 channel lightning amp running the 2 6.5" in my doors, well the mofo blew one day (wasn’t crankin the volume) and fried the speakers in the door too, with a multimeter i noticed there was .5 volts going to the left channel and 20 volts going to the right. WTF? swapped amps and im running with one front speaker now. yeah!!!
 i should add that there are also a few from above that used to or do have amps from their high end that are decent, but again safer to just stay away from unless you know which ones specifically. i.e. sony’s old ES and lanzar’s vibe 1200d. hm maybe i should add 2nd and 3rd tiers… avg, mid, upper mid, high, elite… feel free
well, i can say that Ive got a 600watt Profile California amp (the blue series) and it is an awesome amp. THe RMS power is also listed as well at 300 watts continuous. From my experience it is a work horse and pushes my Audiobahn AW 1000x (600 watts RMS) HARD.
Honestly Swiss Audio?
I’ve hooked up one of their amps to a pair of Eclipse 12" and it sounded much better than the Eclipse amp that was being used beforehand.
I’ve had:
sony Xplod 1000watt
Rockford fosgate
Profile 600
And an Alpine 400 watt
All of them suck except my old skool alpine amp!!! It just dull and silver…doesnt look so great…BUT it NEVER EVER EVER has overheated, even when my girlfriend put clothes on top of it.
It has a great crossover. It’s a little heavy but i dont give a damn.
At 200 watts each sub from my alpine it sounds like 500 from the sony Xplod.
If you believe peak power you probably shouldn’t be installing anything yourself I remember I did my homework before I went looking around for a system. www.crutchfield.com helped a lot.
So you’re saying that all those brands ONLY list peak power and not RMS? Wow :loser:

are the okay amps? I have no idea, I got it for free practically.
good list though. [/B]
heh i was going to, but ive been hearing theyre half decent for the value. my friend had one and it was decent for highs, maybe even low power subs. i wouldnt mind running one, especially for free.
power acoustik, us acoustics, and autotek are probably the only ones i would touch in the lower end. autotek might even make it to the lower midrange.

yea, i have a profile 400 watt amp, and the rms was also listed. And you know what, i payed 20 bucks for it, and it hasnt overheated/blown or given me any problems, i couldnt have gotten any better for that price…
Originally posted by IntegraGS-K just dont go for the Xplod sony types. My friends blew in a couple months.(or less?) Im looking for an amp though, maybe alpine , but its pricy to me.
if you dont have access to teh ones i said i would consider, DEI (www.directed.com) is a very solid brand that is somewhat affordable. they recently took over orion and a/d/s and make viper alarms as well as many many other names. their amps have won competitions (1100d). not the prettiest, no frills, just solid power and reliability. any of their models i would even put into my moms or any relatives cars. their studio speakers are very cheap too, 150$, and are comparable to mb quarts (mid line) and destroy cerwin vegas. even their subs are decent. they are just an all around great company, anyone can vouch for it.
I agree with all the amps named. I just didn’t hear anyone say anything good about fosgate. Personaly I think Fosgate is over priced and don’t like their subs or speakers, but I haven’t found a better amp. BD 1000. Loudest one in town with only two subs. Now I have to upgrade my cd player so it quits skipping from the bass. If anyone is doesn’t believe me we need to have a meet in texas.
I will have to dissagree with Kenwood being in the company with the rest of that crap. I do not like the peak power rating being on the outside of their amps but if you buy them for what they really are they are good amps. The 829s (600watts) does around 200rms at 4ohm mono. I have put many of these on a pair of 8ohm JL12W0s & it works good. We install this set up for $700.79 its a great bang for the buck & it sounds good not just loud.

i wouldnt doubt that. youre probably right about the bad rap too, probably cuz they dont list ratings and people are sorely disappointed. after all, everything else kenwood makes is good, they just dont accel with their subs and amps.
the jbl is kinda iffy too. how can you gauge dampening other than from the specs? is it audible? even with subs? i run a bp600 and have ran a 1200 and many people like them for their output and low price. ive run them down to 1ohm too. this is only regarding their bp series (class d mono) amps, i dont know about their class a/b multi channel amps… i doubt theyre useful for anythign but low power components…
oh and the jbl gt series subs- great value too. the loud and clear are crap but the old GT’s are great at 300rms. id say theyre somewhere between the sq of a w3 and idq. and as for components, i hear the GTO’s are soemwhat decent if you can get them for cheap.
