The reason i put kenwood up there is because of they tend to have a problem turning on in colder weather(around 45degress F or below). I ran a mono block kac8**( cant remember exact model #) and a four chanel, and during the winter months they seem to want turn on and off whenever they wanted. They might work well in store displays but not in a car enviroment. Although they do work well when they do work. Also, I didnt have this problem with my excelon amp.

probably an isolated problem. just avoid unless super cheap (30-40bucks?)
I think you guys mean DAMPING factor.
BeatuPls503 that is odd I have never heard of that problem. But I have seen temp related problems with car audio equipment before.
XDEep my experence with JBL mono block amps has shown that in a 2 or 1ohm load the amps loose control of the subs & kill them. I have 1 customer that had to have these JBL amps because they were so good. He brought me a BP1200.1 to play his 3 MTX Thunder 6000 12s he blew all 3 subs the 1st day. I pulled his subs out he went to CC & swaped them out. I put 3 new subs in he killed 2 of them in 3 days. So he decided to buy subs from me 3 JL 12w3v2. It took him 3 weeks to kill them & I have swaped out 1 here & 1 there. Near the same time I installed 3 JL 12w3v2’s in a 2000 Civic with a JL 1001. tony the owner is a boomer also & has yet to blow a single sub. Now part of this comes down to abuse of the equipment but I have had repeated experience with JBL doing the same thing. Its a shame too I rember when JBL made really good stuff. But I also rember when Lanzar optidrive & Sound Stream Refference amps were some of the best stuff on the market.
Rockwood:bowdown:
That was my favorite part about my car getting broken into. They took the Rockwood:bowdown:

I was going to defend Sony as to not alway being crap, but you changed your post… I have a XM-2100G (old school Mobile ES dual monoblock) and it still whoops the pants off of most of the amps I have listened to today… and there is nothing like a 1ohm stable stereo/mono amp for flexibility…

The Xplod EQX line were decent, but they pailed in comparison to the older beige ES line… I have one of both… and they are decent to say the least… actually the EQX (5 -channel) is tough… was in my trunk when I flipped my car and it still works today…
i have a Pyramid amp w/ crossover off ebay for $45 and it works GREat!! And a 12" legacy sub for $15. They do list only peak power but it sounds awesome. Its probably true that most people don’t even know what these less known amps and subs sound like. I say give them a try, im sure glad i did, saved me probably 4-5 hundred dollars (avoided the JL/Sony crap that you are paying for the name on). :sucks:
i admit im still running this sony xm752 for my highs. not enough funds to buy what i like especially since i got robbed and now its pushing my orion (again not what i want but they do their job).

i cant tell if youre being sarcastic or not
well if you arent, i really weep for you, but its ok as not everyone appreciates music as much as i do. if they work for you, and you paid next to nothing (like i did), then im glad you didnt waste your money. however, chances are the saying always holds true,
‘you never know how shitty yours is until you hear something better’.
apply that to home theatre and you enter an entirely new realm of sensual pleasure
edit: omg i just saw your pics. so it is true… well i admit ive never actually heard those two, but i think its safe to say that compared to a properly tuned jl sub or better, the differences will be very noticeable. speaking in terms of a sub’s frequency being flat or ‘linear’, it plays all the bass notes almost equally, nothing stands out significantly unless the artist intended it to… with a crappy sub you may only hear the boom notes and the realy low notes will be almost non-existant. its like 8-bit mono compared to 44kbit stereo. well maybe not that perceptible…
anyways, if you do like your music a little more than the average person, i urge you to at least sample a well made setup or if you can, borrow a friend’s sub (in proper box)/amp/eq and play with it to see how much better it can sound. listen to it at your leisure and with all the songs you like and know well. and im not saying elite audio, but at least 200rms or jl audio or better, 100$ and above
btw, do you have any ‘bass boosts’ or ‘loudness’ on? i dont have any, theyre all set to zero on all my components. thats how you get a more flat/linear response, or ‘sound quality’
well i know there is better, but im saying unless you need something that people will hear a mile down the road, some of those brand amps will work just fine. I compare my car setup to TV/Computer setup in my room and the car one wins were as i spent more on the theater stuff. Anyways why were you doing a post saying how bad those brands our, newbies and others should do research to get what they need, not be told.
oh and i appreciate music, I listen to it everywhere and i play guitar so its not like i just bought cheap stuff for talk radio reasons.

i started this so that others wouldnt have to go through what 99% of us went through. you buy cheap, you continually upgrade - when what you should have done was saved up and bought quality. now of course not everyone requires ‘sound quality’ but if youre getting a sub chances are you are more into audio than the average stock or mild upgrade person.
research is always best, but i do remember when i was a newbie i wish someone would just tell me (or drill it into my head) where to start- any place but the ‘new’ stuff at the swap meet/flea market. i dont think im telling them what to buy, as i didnt mention the multitude of choices available that dont fall at the bottom of the barrel.
not only is the sound quality better, but reliability, support, and resale value are also better.
thats good that you do have an ear for music, which is all the more reason i encourage you to listen to what a decent system can offer. do you remember the first time you heard dolby/dts in a home? well its not that extreme, but its possible you may get hooked
edit: oh ya, (ya i know its a lot but its kinda one of my bags bebe) regarding using the sony to push my sub against my will- its horrible. they took my jbl amps and isobaric sealed jbl subs, so i had to wire my components to my deck and move the sony to my sub. i dont even need to say how bad running off the deck is, but the same orion xtr 15 pushed by the jbl monoblock, refuses to hit low or play nice. it sounds boomy and loud no matter what i do. theres plenty of power and everything, but today i just kept it on low :tsk:
ok ill go to circuit city tomorrow and find out if my perception of bass has become schewed because of my car stuff. Maybe it has but i really hope not cuase i have no $$$ to spend on audio stuff. Talk to you later

I agree with all the amps named. I just didn’t hear anyone say anything good about fosgate. Personaly I think Fosgate is over priced and don’t like their subs or speakers, but I haven’t found a better amp. BD 1000. Loudest one in town with only two subs. Now I have to upgrade my cd player so it quits skipping from the bass. If anyone is doesn’t believe me we need to have a meet in texas.![]()
That’d be great, please start showing to our meets, the more the merrier.

I’m about 50 miles from Houston, so I would love to meet just not in Dallas. Somewhere more in the middle.

How often do you have meets? How many people usually show up?
we’ve had what, 15 total once? but that was including you houstoners that showed up. Typically, 8-10.

If it brings any perspective to any of this, i’ll bet you that all the above brands that Xdeep has listed do not come with a Birth Certificate. Only the very reputable brands which back up their power as advertised comes with birth certificates.
If your shopping for an amp, ask the salesperson if you can see a birth certificate of an amp and you’ll know whats up.
Basically a birth certificate is a piece of paper which states that the amplifier has been checked and either meets or exceeds the advertised power wattage…
Please correct me if i’m wrong on this issue.
true. easy to find brands that do this are mtx and rockford fosgate. they are usually underrated too. dei is usually on the spot. however even high end brands dont do this so its just an indication if they do, which is what this list is for
