Right now Ive got the stock B18A in my car thats got around 180K on it and in dieing need of waaay more maintence than I’m willing to do to it. I’m going to drive it til it craps out on me then swap in a new motor. I know I want to go turbo and I’m looking for about 250whp with as much torque as possible but I’m not sure which motor I should go with. First of all, which motor do you think I should swap in there to start everything out?? I was thinking either a B18C or a B18B, but willing to go with whatevers best. Next, what should I do to the motor before I swap it in to handle the boost nessecary for the horsepower I’m looking for?? I want to try and keep it reliable as possible, thats why I’am only looking for about 250whp, so what needs to be done to it to handle the boost safely?? Finally, what kinda turbo set-up will best suit me to get the horspower I’m looking to get. How much boost do you think I’ll need to run??
Like I said I dont really know anything about turbos. I only recently decided to go turbo because for the horsepower I’m looking for it would be to expensive to go all-motor. So what do you guys would work best for what I’m looking for??
Already looked it over dude. Need I say again I dont know shit about turbo’s. That guide offers no information on which would be a better motor or what mods will need to be done for the amount of horsepower I’m looking. Also, after reading that guide I’m still clueless on what kind of turbo set-up to go with to get 250hp to the wheels. Because again, I dont even know what motor I should go with. The only thing that guide did for me was narrow it down to 2 different motors. I’m thinking a B18B because it should have alot more torgue with the same 250whp as a B18C but the B18B would also need more boost and probably more internal work done to get up that high.
First thing first I need to know what motor will better handle the numbers I’m looking for. I would also like to have as much torque as possible, (which makes me lean towards the B18B). Then, how much boost would I need to get which ever motor I choose to my 250whp togoal?? What size turbo would I want to use?? For a complete novice like myself that guide didnt explain much to me.
There are PLENTY of threads on the exact questions you are asking…as far as you wanting as much torque as possible, be prepared to be spending a lot of money. Remember, torque is what breaks shit, not horsepower. Why would you even want a shitload of torque on the street when all your going to be doin is spinning your ass off without dumping a pretty penny out to handle that. 250whp is a pretty achievable goal with the right turbo/setup and tuning. IMHO, you should sit down and search for days, and weeks, and months just like the rest of us, how a turbo system works, what’s best for you, finance, etc. Not trying to sound like an ass or anything but it just sounds like you have ALOT of researching to do before you even think about turbo…
I do have TONS of research to do. But the thing is I dont really have time to do alot of the researching right now since Ive been working these 60 hour work weeks. And I need to order my new motor now!! My engine is barely running as is and I need a replacement one as soon as possible. I dont really need to know the other shit right now, I can learn that later, but for right now I need to know which engine would better handle what I’m looking to do to it??
There isn’t really a better motor for you. It depends on what you want. The vtec motors have the ability to rev higher but also yields a slightly higher compression. These motors would be good if your the type of person that want massive top end power, hence bigger turbo. The non vtec motors yield a slightly lower compression BUT do not have the ability to rev as high, and a big top end turbo wouldn’t be as benificial. You are wanting 250whp, if you use a big turbo, it wouldn’t be hard to reach at all at low psi levels, BUT it wouldn’t be practical to use on a motor that doesn’t have the ability to rev that high. A smaller turbo is going to take more psi to reach that, BUT you won’t have that top end power either.
It’s up too you to decide what you want. Nobody else can do that for you.
I personally would love to have a vtec motor just so I could use a big fatty turbo.
