no i havent gotten the new cups yet… the screw your seeing is the bottom of the shock so its all the way down… with the new cups, you gonna lose like a half inch of height adjustment since the new cups are thicker and the shocks are gonna bottom out sooner… but i dunno if that equals up to a 2 finger gap
is the height adjustment the same for the rest of you guys though?
the lowest it can correctly go, keeping the springs pre-loaded, you guys can get the front to be very low? stock DA arms, forks, etc etc?
The thread suddenly dissappeared.
yea ok i dont keep up with the boards… i actually havent been here in awhile… i just visisted the site and seen an application… i didnt lookr through ALL the different types…my bad for being ignorant
but sheesh… head shaking at me… im gonna cry now
lastly… if you check out the honda-tech threads on omni… the new collars arent only thicker at the bottom… its also taller…
edit* and about the tanabe’s… is the only difference between the two only the helper spring?
kev, yeah thats how i installed mine and you’ve seen my car. 20mm is .78" and thats only 1 of my fingers, i doubt 3 of your fingers is equal to 1 of mine. and i dont know what that screw in your collar is because i dont have one.
damit, so i have to dish out $8 to send back my old collars
pleather, we just love to give you shit :ohyeah:
Yeah, free advertising rule. The sponsors complain cause they pay a monthly fee, and Tanabe just posts up an thread and gets free advertising. Same thing happened to my thread so I paid the ad fees for the EMR group buys (EMR paid me back of course).
and your using the new fatty collars now?
the screw, you have to look directly under the strut to see it… from bottom of the strut looking upwards…
oh that screw, ok i know what you’re talking about now. i think my screw has a flat head so it doesnt get in the way.
nope, still have the original one before all this bashing. when i get a chance im gonna pull mine off and measure the thickness since i got one of the first DA coilovers. i was gonna do it 2 weeks ago when i changed oil but got sick that weekend and didnt feel well enough to change oil and take off the front collars to inspect them.
you guys should have gotten teins :ohyeah:
There are people that have these that like them better than Teins. it’s all opiniated. I bet Teins are nice to cruise on since the spring rates are pretty soft.
hmmm $1000 for a coilover setup that is softer than what i have. i’d rather spend that $1000 on something like koni/GC, tein SS are just bling until you get them revalved especially in the rears.
omni power > tein
:ohyeah:
im gonna get yelled at about this…
my opinion…
i think id still rather try those tanabes than get teins
When I was in the buisness of buying my suspension, money wasn’t an issue and I was really looking into Teins. after I noticed the spring rates and shock dyno’s ( 16 adjustable), I changed my mind. it’s a good coilover, but not worth the money you pay IMO. I started to look elsewhere and found the Omni’s to suit what I was looking for. stiff, with the sports holding up 10K strong in the rear I couldn’t go wrong, so I gave Omni a try and like them very much. no rear sagging when I take off.
ok someone is definately gonna get hurt now!
1/16" = .125" = 3mm = i want my money back because the so called new design is what 10mm, so what the walls are still the same thickness. like many people said it just raises the height the crack is gonna be at. dont quote me on that part yet, i’m gonna do some more research and ask some CNC places about the measurements.
sorry the pics are so fuzzy, i wasn’t too happy snapping these pics
Hey Mav, email Dave at omni to get you the new collars!! I thought you had said yours were fine?? anyway, the new ones arent dissapointing, trust me, I got mine and had them mesured and the thickiness of the bottom is now .405" wich is 10.281mm. pretty thick and the collar overall looks good. the thickness of the walls are thicker just by comparing the 2. the new collars also have a lip on the top and more threads after the hole on the side. nothing like what you have now. I’ll post pics of mine for comparison.
Yuri, got your message but I don’t think it’ll do any good to measure mine. I’m gonna go ahead and see about the new collars when I get home. I installed mine about a month after you did, so our’s are probably identical in fucked-up-ness.
Damnit I hate trying to even the car out, especially when I shouldn’t have to. Omni is losing my respect slowly.
here’s the new collars for the DA in comparison to the old ones. another thing is, you don’t have to have a defective pair or whatever to get a set of new collars. Omni is just doing this for everybody.
these are 10.281mm thick at the bottom and I think they’ve got to be a couple mm thicker around the sides.
the first pair you measure seem to have a bottom section thickness of ~3/8 an inch, which is about 9.5mm. Seems much more reasonable for holding the weight in shear, the 1/16 ones were shady there.
and what’s up with the wear on your brakes?
actually they were both 1/16 but when i layed down the tape measure and the angle i took the pic it looks deeper but its not.
i know the brake wear is weird, but its still flat. i check it every week. started to really show after i installed my SS lines. i think the pad on that side is just funny but she still stops normally.
