Well, here I am now, wanting to Turbo my beloved G2!
Here’s my gameplan, tell me what you think about it:
Turbo off a Saab or something similar (haven’t decided yet) with an internal wastegate running like 5-6 psi MAX.
Still don’t know what manifold/downpipe, suggestions?
BOV with a nice sound (Suggestions?)
Front Mount Intercooler (Not really big, but to at least have one)
450CC DSM Injectors (Stock aren’t enough right?)
AFC hack (Any cheaper way to take care of mixture issues?)
Oil catch can (Once again, any other way to take care of PCV issues?)
A/F and Boost gauge
All this on my stock 250,000 kilometers engine. (Still runs strong with good compression and about no oil loss between oil changes, will eventually rebuild but want to try turbo first)
Am I missing something here?
Does this looks like a nice setup?
Like I said, for now I’m not planning on boosting high, just want to get the feeling of turbo and keep the budget to a minimum.
Decent Start, do not go with AFC. Get real management like a chipped ECU(23$) and a street tune from a friend or local. This is the single most important component of your build.
when your ready, get a hold of xenocron, or go to xenocron.com and check out his chipping stuff. If you can solder, you can get a basemap and a chipping kit for like 45 shipped. If your too worried to do it, Send it to him for like 100 sumthing, and its cheaper than an AFC and much more effective. Good Luck!
I do think i’ll go the chipped ECU route. I have a PR4 lying in my basement so i’ll mostly try to chip it to see. I’m quite good with a solder gun since electronics was my old field of studies!
Found a kit locally consisting of a T3 and side mount IC off a Saab. The guy has everything and he’s asking 1500$ canadian. But there’s 2 extra injectors just before the TB and a “homemade” fuel management box, so I still think I prefer to build my own kit with a front mount IC the way I want it.
no, stick with a T3, go find one off of a manual transmission ford thunderbird in the junkyard if you cant find a manual tranny one, get the one off the automatic.
Auto: T3 .42/.48 A/R
Manual: T3 .60/.63 A/R
and also, chip your ecu, get a fuel pump ~$100 US, and get a quality manifold and downpipe combo, this way you can reuse the mani and d/p when you rebuild rather than replacing it because you went the uber cheap route, you can leave it internally gated although it might cause problems with the d/p, but either way look at spending ~1500 US for a decent build with parts that will last.
I’ll definately be on the lookout for a T3. (Could have a deal on a Saab T3)
I also found a local selling a Manifold, it looks like a SSAutoChrome though, but he doesn’t know the brand. He bought a engine/turbo kit combo but the engine was completely shot, so he’s selling the turbo to cover some costs. Could probably have it for 200-250 canadian, it’s brand new.
:bang: stay away from ssautochrome PLEASE!!!
scroll down to the log combo kit, ~$600 everything you need and really, really good quality, you can block off the wastegate elbow, and it will always be there in case you decide to upgrade. http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140231
-T3 Turbo from a Saab. (rebuilt in 2005)
-B series Manifold (Unknown brand)
-custom charge piping, 2½" (was on a civic HB 92-95)
-Saab Intercooler
-Blow Off valve, HKS replica
-Manual boost controller (turbosmart)
-Complete 2¼ Exhaust system with a dynomax muffler (civic HB 92-95)
-Meters (boost, air/fuel, oil pressure → Autometer phantom)
-2 extra injectors for added fuel before TB
-HomeMade Air/Fuel management
He’s asking 1500$ canadian.
Seems like a fair price. Although I would use the chipped ECU method instead of the extra injectors and the exhaust system won’t fit, but as long as the down pipe fits, it’s ok with me.
But the IC is a side mount, would that be a problem If i’m planning on keeping A/C and P/S?
