whats goin on G2IC…just wanted to see what kind of numbers people have gotten out of b16’s turboed in DA’s…HP, TQ, track times would be great…maybe some pics of the set up…i think this could be a interesting thread.
i jus went 12.92 at 120mph 2.40 60ft that at 15 psi on a t67 turbo,piston rod b16.i think thats like 350-380 hp.thats with an afc.
?
u running full interior or u got everything stripped out? thats a good time for a b16 DA…is it ur running car or do u use it as a street car also?
bump…
Any stock b16 on boost?
I don’t really care about 1/4er mile times, just looking for feed back on the driving experience.
I know there is a shit load on H-T with dyno graphs posted. There is even a thread of just b16’s on boost.
I wish there were a few more example of boosted Da’s that was able to retain the AC and power steering.
guess we on the same misson then…
guess we lookin for the same stuff man. i looked at so many swaps and stuf and they are really out of my budget…so i turned to the b16 i hear its a great reliable motor and from reading on H-T with forged internals stock sleeves and a few other things people are putting down 350whp easily and the motors are realible. I just want to know or see more done on DA’s and keeping a/c. i want my DA just as a car to go to school and work later after i finish Lincoln Tech. pretty much as a chill/ work car…yet still have some power to keep up or mess around here and there.
I grew up in the Bronx. 183rd + Beaumont ave. 1 block from Cortona Ave and 2 blocks from Southern Blvd/Bronx Zoo.
I went to PS 32. JHS 45 and Theodore Roosevelt, All zoned schools.
I’ve read almost all turbocharged b16 posts on H-T and have decided to keep the motor stock and work on a efficient turbo setup. My goals are ~250whp and ~160ft-lb of tq. This is being done with bone stock b16’s with the OEM intake manifold and cams, though 99.9 % of them are in 2000lbs EH’s.
At 1st, my plans were to stay N/A by investing in a B18C-R. ~$5,000-6,000 and I’ll be driving with AC, PS and Honda’s reliability. An Integra Type R and our Integras weighs about the same. But…after reality kicked in I started to research other possibilities which lead me to the B18C/1. At ~$2500-3200 for a full swap… or ~$1800-2100 for a long block, this seems like the best option. I figured with my Hondata equipped ECU, Skunk 2 stage 2 cams, Greddy header, 7lb Flywheel and a few other go fast goodies like my 75 wet shot, I’ll have an obsession again. Then I saw a H-T thread with a bunch of B16A on boost.
To make a long story short, I got a B16A(2nd gen) for 400 bucks locally. It was in a EH2… and I was able to drive the car before buying the engine so I jumped on it.
Then I got a SPF turbo manifold, which is suppose to be AC/PS friendly. I’ve yet to see one on a DA setup with AC and PS still working but…
It came with a dump tube and a really nice HKS waste gate, 200 bucks locally.
I got a set of RC 750cc injectors for $150.00 (eBay) and the oil feed line, oil return line and a Greddy adapter block from eBay, for about $150 shipped. I got a Walbro 255 fuel pump for 90 bucks shipped from eBay as well.
I’m missing a turbo, downpipe, intercooler, i/c piping, blow off valve.
I have a chipped ECU with Hondata already.
http://tinyurl.com/yo9uwh = the intercooler I want to get.
I’m going to use 2.25 OD I/C piping.
So far… I’m still under 1500 bucks.
Damn…I didn’t realize that I’ve typed so much.
-ronie.
My first setup was a stock stock JDM 10.2:1 B16 with an SC34 on a tubular log. All that was done to that motor was an ITR intake manifold and a 2mm bigger TB which accounts to nothing. The car made 275whp/170wtq @ 11psi. It was a blast to drive, once it was up in the revs. the SC34 was a bit too big and laggy for the tiny 1.6. if you messed up a launch or shfit it was gameover. It was enoguh to beat a lightly modded C5 vette from a roll tho. Non z06 of course.
Tchleung, thats the kind of opinions/experiences we are looking for.
And coming form a credible source as yourself helps alot.
What would you suggest as far as the turbo specs are concerned, would be efficient snail that will make power to 8200rpms and will have minimal lag below 5500 rpms?
I guess it all comes down to what kind of powerband you are looking for. I was looking to just make power so I went with the larger t3/t4 like te SC34. I think the GT28RS would be an ideal turbo for the b16. it should still have decent response on the 1.6 and still make high 200’s when you push it, but the 8000rpm redlight will have the tq/hp tapering off most likely. But this would make for a much more functional car. On my B16 It would just make 11psi by 5200rpm with the SC34 with the stage 2 exhaust wheel .63ar and 57 trim comp wheel, .60ar. If the Gt28RS is not for you, maybe the GT871R. That will easily make the power you want, and be able to maintain itself betyet @ 8000rpm.
i have full int. and its a daily driver .stock sleeves just piston and rod deal.but the turbo is way laggy on the street .even though my comp is 10.5. t67 is big power but real laggy.full boost at 6000rpm.but when it comes on its on!
Are you sticking with the 1.6 because it’s what you already have? If not, I’d recommend geting a 1.8. Even an LS. Discplacement is a good thing I now hit 20psi @ 4600rpm on my built 2.0L GSR/ITR with my GT35R. Making 500+whp.
Having a more natural powerband is also easier on tires. The insant torque curve you get from a small displacement big turbo is an instant shock on your drivetrain and makes it prone to spine the tires. Unless it’s a real real laggy setup, which it won’t spin the tires because by then you’re already moving fast
Tchleung, regarding why I’m using the 1.6. I looked high and low to find a stock 1.8c long block. After 1 month I started looking for just a 1.8c short block and a 1.6 head. But still no luck price wise. fuQ! people are asking for a grand for a 1.8c bottom end. I never knew how hard it was to get one when you need it. However… everyone and their grandma…have a B16 laying around. I still have people calling me offering me b16’s.
Shit, last night a guy offered me his B16A2 with the gearbox for a grand.
Anyway…I going to keep looking for a 1.8c bottom end while I get my turbo setup up and running. I had planned on building the bottom end with rods and pistons… using the stock head… and was gunning for 300-350 wheel HP but decided that I’ll spend the 800 bucks to get a 98+spec LSD or a OBX one installed in my YS1 and fix the syncros.
I’m still on the look out for a 1.8C bottom end that I can build on the side over a period of time.
I’m not looking for major power because I don’t want the wear and tear that comes along with it. I do want a “natural” power band. I want to be spooled by 3500rpms… and rev it out to 8200rpms.
Anyone else with a stock or lighty modded B16 on boost?
not yet but workin on it.
I dont have my B16 yet but im workin on that…as far as the set-up goes im looking for something along the lines of what your getting into. However i do plan on getting forged pistons and rods. Im shooting to hit around 250-350 whp around that area. Right now im reasearching and looking around for a turbo with low lag want something to boost by 3500 and stay up till around 8000 or 8200 rpm’s. I’m keeping a/c by the way in my DA.
well i think b16’s do well at the track . becouse thay have low tq. compared to a 1.8 so thay leave the line less harsh then a 1.8 with much more tq. check out import builders.com they’ll brake it all down for you…
Low TQ is what?
I think 160 Ft-LB in my DB2… would make me happy.
I think 250whp will be good enough for the streets in my 2700lb car.
I want to start out small… and work my way up.
The most important part right now is to assemble a reliable turbo kit with attention to details. Once I have all the quality parts installed and tuned…I’ll know if I need more than 250/160 power goal. Then I can either build my spare B17A1 block or go 1.8C.
for now
as for right now since im still in school my plans are to just freshen up my engine for it to run a lil harder and better since its got 153,256 miles already. ima put some ITR pistons some rods, get the block cleaned, and just get the basic bolt on after that as well as put in a 93 gsr tranny ive been waiting to put in as soon as i get clutch, pressure plate and flywheel for it.
JDM809, so you’ve changed your mind from going turbo?
It will cost around grand to do what you mentioned, unless you preform all the work your self.
Good luck on which ever path you take.
havent changed my mind
I havent changed y mind at all is just since ima keep my stock b18a for now since im in school and cant afford the b16 change over right…but in your opinion what do u think i should do as a temperary build for while im in school…keeping in mind i want to keep a/c…
