Ok guys are they good or not, some people can’t make up there minds. How long will they last and if they do suck what would be a better buy. Or should i just keep the stock shocks and get lowering springs. Thanks
I agree with strikeback03, they are just an OEM replacement part and should not be used for lowering at all. Some ppl will say they have been running a slammed car with them for months and have not had a problem yet, but “yet” is the key word here. They just arn’t made to damper past an OEM config. If you arn’t going to lower and you need new shocks go for it. If you are going to lower just blow out your stock shocks and then spend the money you would have waisted on the blues to pick up some Koni yellows.
Ae those the ones that lower ~1 inch? Tokico lists that package on their website, so they should warranty it. If the drop is more than 1 inch, it is probably a package put together by some vendor, and probably not covered.
i got that setup brand new for 275 cdn from a private seller.
Best bang for that ^^ buck lol. So far 3 weeks driving it has dropped my car 1 1/16 of an inch (as per measurements). I’m sure it’ll seat more. The ride is good enough as a daily driver.
I’ve heard of blues blowing but i believe it’s beacuse ppl lower too much everybody i’ve heard with the hp matching spring/shock set lasts quite a long time.
Tokico is the factory supplier for toyota and my local aft-market garage says honda too.
damn wtf i just sold my kyb’s cause they told me they suck and to get tokico blues instead…im using neuspeed sports springs, i was going to use the blues but now i see you guys saying they suck…koni yellows are the way to go?
tokico blues are tokico blues. Many ppl say they suck because they try to get a >1.5 inch drop with a strut that’s only designed for <1.5 inch drop.
That’s like dropping your car 2.5 inchs on stock struts. Obviously it’s going to blow and that is the main issue with blues is that they blow after a couple months, but if you look at their setup all of them drop >1.5 inch.
If you look on this g2ic forum there is a member with tokico hp spring/strut combo that is a 1 inch drop and he has had it on for years. I have just put my hp strut/spring combo and currently my car has dropped 1 2/16 all the way around that is less then 1.25 inch drop.
Now is 1.25 inch drop big? no. Is 1.25 inch give you best performance? well hell no. But, at the same time do i scrap my mud flaps every little bump? no. Do ihave to worry about my rs-r exmag scraping on the speed bumps? no.
Honestly, i am quite happy with the set becuase i got it cheap 275 cdn from a private seller (new) and honestly as my daily driver (especially in the winter) it is more bumpy then stock but not overly bumpy.
Bumpy like… try a eg civic with apex-i n1 complete coilover/struts and sure that thing handles like a mother but at the same time go down a bumpy road and your back hurts 20 mins in.
1" drop. maybe 1.5" now (springs sagging) my tokico Blues have been on my car since 94’ and they’re still not blown , but then again I never race solo’s anymore…
I’ve had my Blues for about 6 months with my current H&R’s 2.25"F 2"R and before that with some no-name coilovers for about 8 months(drop estimated at 3" all around) I checked them a week ago and they are still like new.
Total 14 months & 25k miles and they are holding up just fine, some people must be doin something wrong if they are blowing out as soon as some say, maybe i just got a good batch?
I’ve had the blues for about a year now and they have been absolutley perfect my dad’s had his for over 2 years on his 4 door and his are just as good as mine. we both have the sportlines which are over a 1.5 inch drop
i have them with NUESPEED RACE springs (2’’). i hear they arent supposed to go any lower then 1.75’’ but my friend had them with skunk2 coilover lowered about 3 inches and he drove HARD. he blew his motor before any shocks. so i figured 2’’ would be good. i guess we’ll see. they’ve only been on for a week.
is there any a time when you wish you wouldve went with illuminas over the blues? you or your father?
im trying to figure out what shocks ill get to go with my sportlines
6+ YEARS! They have been running just fine for 6+ years combined with Eibach’s Pro-Kit (1.4’f, 1.0"r). I have always had them at <1.5" drop, but still had whacked out camber until correction kit was installed.
So just my $.02 but I had always read that Blues are for OEM to <1.5’ drop and I would have to agree.
no man i love these springs/struts great drop great ride couldn’t be better if my car’s ever done i’ll show u in person cause i think we live close to each other
