I went and had my top hats extended two inches, HOW FAR CAN YOU EXTENDED THEM?
untill they hit the underside of the hood in the front. The rears can go much higher.
post an update if you have any clearance issues with the fronts being extended that much.
my hood is going to sit a lot higher in the back and there will be a gap between it and the fender. It looks bad but atleast my car wont bottom out as much and it should have more shock travel and my koni’s will last longer i think?
The reason I asked is because I wondered if anyone had notice that where the bottom top hat bushing and washer sits now has to be up inside of the top hat. What do I do now, trim my bottom bushing to fit inside of the top hat?
There is a point of deminishing returns for extending the top hat. That is reached when the shock body itset hits the underside of the shock tower because so much of the shaft’s length is inside the extension.
you said shaft :giggle:
you got any pics.
Two inches is A LOT to extend your top hats.
Ground Control makes extended top hats, but they are only 24mm. I would assume they used 24mm for a reason…becuase any more than that will cause hood clearance and shock issues.
If i remember correctly i extended my fronts 2" and the left shaft(passenger side} was hitting the hood support. I ended up cutting a dime size hole in the support rib for clearance.
where can i get top hats extended? other than ground control…
i know people DIY them but is anybody selling them?
i was gonna diy
but then i thought about the hard pot holes i would hit in my area and dont wanna get fux if my welder does a crapy job
shut up tony, you pussy, i live in SF and i dont have a problem with custom hats
I live in Oregon and drive on dirt driveways all the time with huge potholes:cross: …I’ve had them on since this post started and no problems…just took them to me welder and had him cut and put some extension on them.
can anyone post pics of what this looks like both from gc and custom? I want to see the wuality difference.
hey bitch do it for me then
:naughty:
i dont do work for pussies
XsiJDMteg - you still about?
if so how’s it going with the top hats, and what actual length did you extend them??
I’m about to have mine extanded by 30mm, but want to know if anyone else had issues.
hey everyone,
Thought I’d share in this. I had a friend build a set for me about a year ago. I don’t have them any more as I don’t drive low very much. Shock travel improved, but in the end I think I went too far with the length (2 inches). I should have only gone like 1". Doesn’t seem like much but when you account for the top of the shock mounting point its another 1" or so, which adds up to 2" already. And remember the shock moves up and down. I had to bang a little area on the hood to allow the shock piston to move freely without hitting the hood. If I get another set, I’m going with Ground Control.
Here’s some pics for reference.
