hey,
my DA has a b16 swap and is turbo. i am having a overheating problem. i have replaced the water pump, head gasket, thermostat, fan switch, all hoses and o rings, fan and radiator. still no difference no matter what i do. any ideas guys?

Have you made sure that the fans kick in and that the coolant has been bled properly? Also, is it overheating during heavy boost or just at idle? If it’s overheating during heavy boost, that may be a sign of a bad tune.
You shouldn’t be overheating at idle if you have replaced all of those components. You can try to take out the thermostat and run it like that, see if that solves your problem. If that solves your problem, you can either leave the thermostat out of the car, or drill holes into the thermostat and install it back on.
Try all of that stuff! probably something like that but heres a few questions, Do you have a Block guard installed? sometimes if a block guard is installed wrong you will have overheating problems and do you have any electrical problems? I had an electrical problem last year and it said it was over heating but ended up not over heating it was just an electrical issue!
first off, is your car tuned properly for your setup or is it a “basemap”? then has coolant been properly bled? no air bubbles. too many variables and you didnt give us any details…be more specific on when this happens so you can help us help you. this guessing game stuff gets old.
your tunner may have too much timing in the tune. my first tune was fine until i boosted i found the tune was not retarded enuff .too much timing caused it to over heat…i’ll leave that tuner name anotomous…
thanks. sorry i took so long to reply back. here’s some more info. the engine temp stays normal at idle. under load it starts to overheat within 5 minutes of driving. the temp will peg everytime, never fails. the temp gauge works fine. the only way i can keep the temp down is to have the heater on. as long as the heater is on the engine will stay at normal operating temp. the motor is a stock jdm 2nd gen b16a. no block gaurds. no electrical problems that i know of. the coolant has been burped properly, the fan kicks on when it should, and the thermostat definetily works. just have a base map tune right now, but was tuned with my setup. couldnt finish the tune due to overheating and a blown charge pipe. it does seem a liitle on the lean side. the timimg is advanced 15 degrees. autoplex what was your timing advanced to when you were overheating and then what did you retard it too? thanks a lot everyone, i appreciate all the help. i will be better at replying quicker.
i had the same problem with my car, the intercooler is blocking the flow to the radiator… i made a custom air scoop on the from the bottom of my bumper to help the air flow plus i have a pusher and puller fan to increase the flow… another way to help is to vent the hood in the rear
mine was advancedto about the same or even more like 18 degrees. its retarted to about 20 something i have to check my tune again to give you a deff # its logged in hondata
yah i was wondering about that. the front mount is pretty restricting and my radiator is super close to the headers and turbo. i do have some hood spacers layin around, i might give those a try. what did you make your scoop out of? can you post some pics of how you mounted it? i was also thinking about having a heat sheild fabbed up to put in between the rad and the headers. thanks for the input
damn… i think im gonna leave mine at 15. the tuner is very reputable and i think he does all his b series tunes advanced to 15. just something i figured id look into. thanks again
dont throw out the headgasket…this could very well be a headgasket issue also…head lifting under boost? do you know? have you done any sort of engine diagnosis? leakdown, compression check? also does your car do this when cruising(not beating on it)? could be an airflow issue.
sorry to say but on our cars, we have the most restrictive front end as in airflow and youll have to use some sort of creativity to keep temps down and everything seperated. propping the back of the hood is a huge NO NO. you dont have a K series and you dont run ITB’s. that area between the hood and windshield my friend is a pressure zone…so in essence on the freeway, your creating a vacuum to the engine when airflow will try to counter opposite of your vehicles motion(meaning dont do this, your car will only overheat…STILL). fans work but a good shroud goes a long way so 2 fans in most cases arent necessary. I have tried this dilema as well but to my knowledge, Its only a bandaid to whats really going on.
a bad tune will do this also, dont make adjustments after your tuner has made them to your vehicle. this will cause it to overheat. if it overheated on a dyno, then that would tell me it isnt the tune because a reputable tuner would know engine diagnosis to procede with your tune. there is something wrong internally. most times than not, the headgasket is overlooked. it doesnt have to mix oil and coolant to know its bad. it could have lifted under pressure and leaked slightly. a engine diagnosis will tell you this so with that said, do these:
Compression check…both wet and dry
check and change your spark plugs…you should be using napa pn# 4644(NGK Bkr7e or something like that)
bleed your coolant system again
if those simple steps dont work do a leakdown test.
And just to throw this out there since my car overheated in the past and I tried everything and nothing fixed it… check your radiator cap.
hey thanks alot for all the great info smokeintegra. turns out everything was a little too close to each other and there was not enough air flow. unfortunately now i owe my buddy a new car. so i am sorry to say i will be parting out my teg and returning it to pretty much stock. thanks again for all the great help everyone.
