has anyone turboed a stock b17? if so wat setup (kit, turbo, etc…) and how much did it put down. i wanna know becuz i think ima turbo my gsr but im prolly just gonna run like 6 lbs…but anyways…input would be good.
i think if you look at the results of a b16a1, the results would end up being a little better than that. i havent seen results of a boosted stock b16a1 but you would be better off being that the compression is lower than the b16
ALL b-series engines will handle ~250whp safely. the turbo makes the power not the engine. just get a turbo that will make more than 300whp and your set.
I ran a drag3 kit (heavily modified version) on a stock b17 for about 2 or 3 thousand miles at 10 psi until I spun a bearing.
I would recommend reading Maximum Boost, and following the guidelines… I read it, but didn’t follow the rules… oops
just don’t boost more than 15 seconds, or in 5th gear, or especially both at the same time… no matter how hard you try, you can’t keep up with wrxs, srt4s, and the like, so don’t spin a bearing trying like I did
140 mph at 8400 rpms might be fun on a stock motor, but leaving the car you just dumped a lot of money into on the side of the road for the night isn’t…
I’m lucky no one towed my car for me…
Anyway…
Don’t buy a kit, buy the parts seperately…
get a good exhaust manifold… used if you want.
buy a brand new turbo, wastegate, blow-off valve.
make the piping yourself…
and most importantly, don’t use the fmu bs… use hondata or uberdata or one of the other free engine management systems
I can’t stress enough the importance of tuning…
research, and good luck
10 psi on a stock b17 is sickly fun/quick
there is nothing wrong with booosting 5th. you spun a bearing because of the lack of oil to your bearings/tunning. detonation causes much pressure on bearings. The boosted honduhs I built/tunned have modded & sprayed SRT fo’s, STI’s, and wrx’s making excuses. running from 0-rev limit in 5th.(all b16a trannys)
im already planning on using hondata…and i was also planning on putting together a kit…but thanx on the input ppl…more would be nice too
God I hate that whole yo can’t boost in 5th gear bs myth. It’s TOTALLY not true.
Either your setup was bad, or your tune was bad. If yo ever seen a dyno plot of a car in 2nd gear, 3rd gear, then in 4th gear. You will see that the lwoer egars plot looks alot smoother while the higher gears are alot more rough and that’s when you see the flaws. The higher the gear, like 5th stretches it out so lnog that any minor flaws in your tune becoem BIG ones, where as on a shotty tune you can usually get away with the first few gears oookay.
