turbo b18a1

hey guys,

hopefully soon i will start getting my parts together for my turbo b18a non-vtec build up.

I don’t know as much aboout turbo as i’d like to at this point so i have a quick question about pistons. i am deciding to go with forged pistons with a dish top, but i can get ethier the ones that keep the stock compression ratio of 9.2:1 but with the dish top, or the ones that drop the ratio to 8.5:1.

the turbo kit i am looking at is by turbonetics and factory set at 8psi of boost which they say is good for a stock engine all day long. I am planning to modify the kit to run at 12psi boost for more power but i don’t know if i can run that on stock compression ratio or if i need the dropped ratio.

also if i do go with the dropped ratio, what is the max boost i can run. i will have forged rods as well but prolly the stock crank, and of course some head work done. i had heard the max on the stock block was 14psi, and i certinly can’t afford the dart block even though it is super sweet.

any suggestions guys??

running 8psi i wouldnt even worry about putting in new pistons, i would do that if i started thinking about boosting 11psi and up as a daily driver. but if you search u can find that yea 14-15psi can b run maybe even a lil bit more with proper tuning. again its all in the tuning

yeqah, i realize that about 8psi, but i need to know what compression ratio pistons i should use for at least 12psi

I’d stay around the stock compression ratio if this is a daily driver type of car.

And if you are putting in pistons put in rods as well.

You could have a nice 350 whp stock sleeved LS motor if wanted.

And I would stay away from the ‘kits’ per se…I am up in Bergen/Essex county NJ if you need help putting together a custom kit for about the same price if not cheaper than buying a Turbonetics ‘kit’

email me if you would like to…
