Ok i’m making my LS a LS/Vtec soon and after that i plan on going turbo. But my problem is my engine has 180,000 miles on it. So i was going to buy a new one and drop it in since i want to stick with my LS. But i was wondering if their was a cheaper rout, like replacing gaskets and bolts instead. I want to run 11’s or 12’s so what do you guys suggest I do?
Uhhhh…you might want to bullet-proof that engine instead of swapping another old, tired engine. With your 1/4 mile goals, it sounds like you’re looking for high HP numbers.

Bullet-proof?

Yeah, like rebuilding the engine to handle high amounts of turbo boost. And possibly to lower the compression using some quality pistons. One of the first thing is to resleeve the block…I think the manufacturer is named Eagle who does quality resleeving (which can handle up to 40psi of boost or something).

mainly I want to build it up without having to take it to bare block and get it machined.
I want to do as much as possible myself.

I highly recommend you take it down to the bare block and make sure everything is reinforced to handle the boost that you’re stuffing into it. You can do some of the work…like taking the engine apart for example. But I highly doubt you can shotpeen your rods by yourself - for example - unless you got the equipment (or have access to one).
BTW, don’t forget to make sure your tranny can handle all the power. That means, you’ll probably have to change your clutch.

yes Golden Eagle mfg. is the name of the company… I just sent my block there to get sleeved and I will let you guys know how it turns out…
