dont know if i should supercharge my b16 or turbo it. i really like the sound of a supercharger and i prefer acceleration over high speeds. i like the idea of lots of power with the turbo but i dont want to wait for it to spool. all of my driving is just tearing around town and occasionaly on the highway. just wondering some of the pros and cons about each as well as feedback from turbo guys and superchargers guys.
JRSC doesnt fit without major modification and vortech fits with some work too…
turbo takes good quality parts, good work and everything takes good tuning…
and not too many supercharged DA’s in here either…
everyone seems to think that there is going to be a ton of lag when going turbo, but the truth is if you get a properly sized one then lag really isnt a issue. Go turbo best car decicine I ever made.
i would say supercharger but the they dont seem to fit well in DAs
The reason most ppl complain abotu lag is because they put on waaay too large of turbos that are more geared for peak hp and tq and forget to look at the power UNDER the curve. Lets use an eagle talon TSi for instance, They use 14B/T25/13B’s on their 2.0L’s! Then we have ppl throwing on Diesel cummings Holset HX35 on their 1.8 and complain about lag. If you want a setup with very little lag but good power under the cure, get a SMALL turbo. You may not make huge power up top, but you’ll end up with a very awesome and useable power band.
Im also a fan of small turbos
Small turbos are for girls. I like some lag, it gives v-8 drivers some hope.
Hehe I agree I’m not a fan of small turbos. I have a GT35R on my motor. but I was jsut putting some input in
Go turbo best car decicine I ever made.
^that and dropping grade 9 english.
im a fan of superchargers. but like everyone said they dont seem to fit well in DA’s…there was a DA here with a jackson supercharger…dont know where the pic is though. with some mods u can SC a teg…i say go for it…be different!
Well I have a Garrett T3/T04E. Does wonders. Really nice piece, and not too much lag.

No offence, but you do realize jsut saying T3/T04E means nothin right. There are many different “T3/T04E” with different compressor and turbo A/R’s and wheel trims/sizes.
this i know, sorry. I’m really tired at the moment. .60 A/R cold, .48 A/R hot.
^I heard through the grape vine that .48 turbine shits out at about 5k. I’m pretty happy with my GM-8 .70comp .60turbine. I have Delta regrind cams and that was a very good addition aswell, other wise after 6.5k game over.
well even if it does… VTEC.
Just boost it @ 4psi and you’ll be good to go. Each psi will give you ~11hp. That would be your BEST bet for a reliable turbo set up in a da, key word is reliable, if you don’t give a shit… then tear it up. I, on a personal level, would rather build up a b16 all motor rather then turbo it, especially a jdm b16. But it’s your choice. Just don’t go too crazy on the boost, it won’t last very long.
Each psi will give you ~11hp
That is totally not true. This all depends on the engine, the turbo setup, and efficiency of the setup. 1psi = 10whp should be used vaguely. Alot of setups will make much less, and much more. my old setup made 15whp per psi, and my new setup makes 20whp per psi.
^ Very true.

I agree dont turbo a jdm b16 you will probably regret it

Obviously it will vary, I just put that out there for the sake of argument. There’s no way to tell how much power your going to make untill it’s done and over with. Just don’t boost it too much, run on ‘low boost’ especially if your making 20whp per psi, get where I’m going with this. You just don’t need alot of boost. AND you won’t be drawing too much attention.
To tell you the truth, I came into this forum asking the SAME EXACT question. Almost word for word even, but I have long changed my mind after looking into it. Turboing our chassis(DA/DB) is either for the complete noob that wants JUST THE SOUND of a supercharger/turbo or the super leet member who knows exactly what their getting into and why. JDMers wound’t dare cut away at their bumpers to install an intercooler… Would you? lol… w/e
hehe this is true.
PS, I cut away my JDM bumper hehehe.
