Hey everyone. Yup just as the title says…i tried priming my turbo just a few minutes ago and i watched to see if the oil even came out of the oil line into a bucket but nothing even came out. the way i primed the turbo is i took out the spark plug wires from the engine and then i tried to crank it. not really sure if thats the right way to do it but thats the way i interpreted it from reading diff. faqs on installing turbo kits. heres somethings i think are the problem:
THe Car:
90 integra ls-soon to be turbo
5spd
bone stock engine
stock tranny
-i bought an oil sandwhich plate thinking it would help with installing other things like oil pressure and such but maybe it could be the problem.
-i recently chipped my ecu to run turboedit. could it be that i messed up the ecu so that the oil pump doesnt even work? im sure i burned the .bin on the chip correctly but not sure if i messed up the ecu while de-chipping it.
SOrry for being a noob. Im not even a mechanic or anything like that. i bought this car after i sold my 92gs auto cause it was a 5spd and i got it for a steal. ever since i bought this car i’ve been modding it by researching and reasearching making sure i do it right. help a fellow 2ndgeninteg owner out
ahh man almost 20 views and no suggestions?
i also thought that i could prime the turbo manually buy just pitching like half a quart of oil through the oil inlet but then im wondering even after that will i be getting oil through to it then? the thing that im worried about is not getting oil to the turbo and then destroying the turbo but do you think it would be safe to manually prime the turbo THEN run the car to see if oil gets through the oil line?
Does this make any sense? lol comment please
when i primed mine, i just removed the ecu fuse. i had a buddy watch the line while i cranked it. i would crank for about 3 second intervals. i think i did this about 5-6 times before oil came outta the line…
hth
thanks for the reply. i’ll try to crank it a few more times and see what happens.
Take the ECU fuse out, not just the plugs the spark plugs. Every single time you keep cranking it, you’re flooding the cylinders with fuel and washing the cylinder walls and rings… Fuel will eventually run past the rings and into the oil too. Keep cranking the motor till your oil light turns off. If no oil comes out of the feed line at that point, you have a problem with the feed line setup.
arryte then, i’ll pull the ecu fuse out and see how that works. thanks again i’ll keep this updated.
finally got it to work. thanks for the info. dont wanna damage my engine any more than it is lol.
My car sat for about 5 months. So I decided to prime the turbo before actually starting it. I pulled two plug wires and went to crank it…well it started and kept running after a crank and a half and it idled pretty damn good…on two cylinders.
That wasn’t the plan but I thought it was kind of funny…but from now on I will pull the ECU fuse as that is the failsafe way to prime.
