Turbo questions

Would like your guys’ input. Basically I want 250 whp and to be reliable. What turbo should I use and do I need to upgrade the stock b18a1? I would like the power to be in the lower rpm range. Also what 1/4 times would I look at with 250 whp. Thanks.

I read that and what I got is I should use a T3? I would be rebuilding the engine right before installing the turbo kit. Stock internals, but ARP bolts and new gaskets, better clutch, and what not. This is all thats required in order to make it reliable correct? How much boost should I go with, with the T3?

GT2560R with ARP headstuds and OEM headgasket. 2.5" exhaust minimum but 3" preferred. full engine rebuild. and if you want it to be more reliable get forged pistons/rods. don’t worry about how much psi you’ll need it’s irrelevant and to many factors come in to play. once your on the dyno and tuning adjust the boost to get to your power goal.

I’m not looking at psi in regards to hp. I’m looking at it in regards to reliability. More boost = more hp but less reliability, i believe. So, that’s why I ask. If I need less boost for more reliability but don’t quite reach my goal that’s fine. Or will it not matter how much boost it gets if i’m looking at only 250 whp as a goal?

your HP will determine your reliability. and 250whp on a fully rebuilt engine is pretty reliable. add forged rods/pistons with ARP hardware and your in business.

however i forgot to mention that it really is all in the tune. i hope you have a good tuner in your area. what will you be tuning with?

you can easily hit 250 with a t3-t4 turbo with a completly stock(healthy) engine and a tune. The rev hard kit would work well in your situation.

not sure yet.

thank you. thats what i was thinking.

Agreed, T3/T4 can easily put you over 250 wheel even without building your motor 10 psi is a good number and still over 250. Also, still reliable I guess depending on the condition of the motor. (tested lol)

okay, so a stock, freshly rebuilt b18a will be able to handle 10 psi. for putting it to the ground, im not expecting my stock tranny to be the best. should i go with a gsr tranny and a good after market clutch. also what axles should i go with?

thanks everyone.

unless your transmission is messing up right now you can stick with the stock ls one. i would go with a different clutch, or else you will be changing one soon anyways. the stock axles should also be good. what turbo are you going to be using to get 250hp on 10psi?

I’m thinking a garrett t3/t4.

Get a stage 4 competition clutch. Works perfect with my boosted application.

How is that clutch for a dd?

It takes some getting used to, but once you master it you’ll have no problems. Before I boosted my DA I had it on for about 6 months and I drove it enough to come close to a DD.

I also kind of want an LSD tranny if im pushing that much power. I believe it is worth it. Your guys’ input?

Another question, since my teg is a 91 what ecu should I go with for better tuning options?
