turbo tune

Hi guys I have a 91 ls and I have been doing as much reading as I can about turbos. I have decided that I think im going to get the greddy turbo kit, because It has every thing you need. My engine is completely stock and im confused about tuning. i understand that their is all different programs to use but after my turbo is installed if I take it to some one to get it tuned how often does it need to be tuned? Sorry for such a long post but this tuneing stuff is really bother me:worry:

Greedy dosn’t make a kit for a 91’ only 96’ and up. As far as tuning goes there’s plenty of things you can do. Stand alone, Piggy back, FMU, but most people find just get there ECU chipped. I belive that theres a site that sells ECU’s already chipped or u send them one and they’ll chip it, I’m sure someone will mention it. Once you have a chipped ECU you need to find someone who tunes on what ever program your ECU is chipped with. Try homemadeturbo.com they have a tuner phonebook, so you can find a tuner were ever you live. A tune is good as long as you don’t change something. So if you change your turbo you need a new tune, but if you change lets say your oil then you don’t.

alright thanks so far that cleared it up better for me. now if i got the turbonetics kit the first one on that link im able to send my ecu away to get chipped and then I can take my car to a local tunner correct?

Turbonetics only makes a kit for 92-93. I don’t think any place actully makes a kit for OBD0 Integra’s (I could be wrong) so that means your going to make buy somone’s used kit or build it your self. It’s really not very hard to do, and is normally alot cheaper than a prebuilt kit. Read up on homemadeturbo.com. I just bulilt my kit for $600 plus a set of prelude seats. you have the right idea on the ECU, but the tuner may also be able to chip your ECU saving you some time and money.

i see that turbonetics makes a kit for a 90-93 integra on turbo-kits.com no?

well like I said I might be wrong. Still thats a shit load of $. I say go homemade setup but if you don’t feel comfable doing it that kit looks pretty good. I wish I could afford brand new turbo parts.

Where in NY are you located? Look at the sticky at the top of this forum

I am in NJ, very close to the NY border…there are many options available to you. Feel free to email me with any questions!

yeah the sticky will tell you everything you know. Also do more research. You cant ever do to much of it. your tuner should be able to chip your ecu. If he cant then get anouther tuner. And the greddy kit also sux ass. Dont buy it. Its by far the worst turbi kit unless your trying to make 200whp…lol. And there is no diffrence in 92-93 and 90-91 DA’s. I would think you guys would know that. In order for you to build your own kit then you will need to know how a turbo vehicle works. Dont tackle the job unexperienced.

There is a diff. between 90-91 and 92-93 Tegs. ones OBD0 and the other OBD1, so the ECU is diffrent also the OBD0 uses peak and hold injectors which you need a resitor box, OBD1 saterated injectors so no resitor box. So you are wrong. Thats the only diffrence between a OBD0/1 turbo kit so you could get a 92-93 kit but if i was paying over 3g’s I would want every thing for my year car.

I say just build your own kit! That is what I am doing, and it is better because you get to choose every component, and have the highest wuality of everything. with some of the kits, they throw in cheap parts to keep the cost down, but you still pay for them. Plus, it is much cheaper to build your own kit. It will probably be around $2k to get a turbo kit with all the best components. Just keep watching forums, classifieds, and ebay motors (only buy the real brand stuff, they sell cheap rip-off stuff too :frowning: ) For the engine management, just get some DSM 450cc injectors (early eclipse/talon turbo) and get your ECU chipped for Turbo Edit (the program is free!). Then go get it tuned. That is the basics, I would seriously consider building your own kit before spending way more for a lower quality one. If you need a list of stuff that you need, just go to like the DRAG turbo kit manufacturer’s website, and see what all is in the kit, and buy the brand of each part you want.

P.S. read the turbo guide!

side note: twitch, I notice you are in Bellingham. I am too. I think we might be the only ones on this site from here. What does your car look like? mine is Melbourne Blue metallic, and is dropped, 5 zigen wheels, racing medallion exhaust, etc. shoot me an email at da_integra_tuner@hotmail.com
maybe we can get a photoshoot going or something. include a pic or 2 of ur car if you want, and Ill see if I recognize ur car.

HTH!

Twitch27, I think thats reversed on the resistor box and injectors. You dont need a resistor box for OBD0 but you do for OBD1.

MantisX

No, he is right.

Resistor boxes come with the OBD0 Integras (90-91)

Apologies. :salute: So on my 93, I will need to find a resistor box? Crap OBD0 seems so much easier. Could I use a box off a 91?

MantisX

yeah, you can use the box off a 91. 90-91 are both obd-0 and peak/hold injectors. Also, I am pretty sure there is a way to just put some resistors inline with each injector. I dont know what would be easier tho. HTH!
