Just recently my 93 2 door with a sunroof has been leaking from the a-pillar between the seatbelt track onto the window switch. I am almost certain it’s not the window seal. I am getting pretty discouraged with the water leaks in this car. This is the fourth one in the course of a month I’ve had to fix. Anyone else experience this particular leak?
which side is it on? i know one side has the drain tube running down through there to the front fender just forgot which side it is i’m thinking passenger
Correct. Front Sunroof drain hose is on Passenger side.
The Rear sunroof Drain Hose is on the Drivers side.
Driver side, sorry.
lol mine does the exact same thing right onto the pass button of the switch. I was thinking it was the sunroof drain as well or moisture from the window seal.
Mine did it on the passenger side too now for the first time today. Checking sunroof drains tomorrow. Seems to be the only logical cause for it happening on both sides.
haha its ironic as soon as you posted this mines had a slow drip from my track to the window switch on the drivers side too now.
whats worse is my seatbelt is stuck in the “open” position so it has a nice path to drip directly where i don’t want it to haha. let me know if you figure it out
my car just started doing this too but i dont have a sun roof.:werd:
WTF? Lol wonder where this shit comes from then maybe the rain gutter
I had this exact same problem about a month ago and fixed it. Here’s how:
The weatherstripping around the front windows is mounted on a couple metal pieces that screw to the body of the car. You can remove the rubber weatherstripping by popping out the plugs at either end of the rubber and then carefully pulling it out of the metal track.
Once the rubber is removed you can take off the two metal pieces by removing all the screws. You will see on the back of the metal trim pieces some old foam sealing material. Mine was in bad shape and you could see where water was getting behind it up near the top of the window where the two metal pieces meet and then running down to the lowest point, the seatbelt opening.
I picked up some 3M adhesive foam weatherstripping at Advance Auto that is made for sealing a truck topper to the bed of a truck. It was just about the right width so I stuck it on the back of the metal trim piece. I think someone on here also mentioned just using silicone but I didn’t want the trim pieces stuck on the car.
After putting on the new foam weatherstripping put the metal trim back on the car, using silicone where the two metal pieces meet. Put the rubber weatherstripping back in and you are done.
Since then we’ve had some torrential downpours here and my floor and window switch have been nice and dry.
This is by no means a comprehensive write-up on the repair procedure but you get the drift. Hopefully this helps you guys out.
Sunroof drains work perfectly, and when I try to make this thing leak to trace it, it won’t. Go figure. Gekko, thank you. I will take a close look at that ASAP. Ugh… Water leaks…
I have a water leak too but in a weird place… Right behind the passenger seat! it wont get wet until about a day after it rains and it stays damp for a week and makes the car smell all moldy…I lifted the car and no holes in the floor board. anyone know what this is or have the same problem…(not trying to jack this thread)
Bark3rk20, you could be having the same issue I described. There are two metal trim pieces that the rubber weatherstripping attaches to. One goes from the door mirror up to the top corner of the door window. The other is a short vertical piece on the pillar.
If you had water getting behind the metal trim and then running down the vertical piece that could make it leak down to the floor behind the seats.
that sounds about right I will be ckin that real soon. I wonder if this has anything to do with my seat belt chime. Everything seems to retract and work fine but then it will chime when I lean foward??? I wonder if water was leaking into a sensor. I’ve searched for an answer but are there any switches along this window seal? Either end of the seat belt track?
Ill have to check that out! I looked in the Teg tips section and there was one for water leak to the FRONT passenger seat but mine is only wet under and behind the seat… Thanks for the help I will try to check it tomorrow and let you know if I find anything.
dang my da just leaked yesturday when i took it to the car wash. It’s leaking from the sun roof and the seat belt tracks. WHAT DO I DO… how do i go about fixing it so that there is no more leak on both places… Anybody got step by step for the repair, or photo of what the cause is. PLEASE ANYONE who could help, THANKS.
Ok now I’m really confused. The water actually seems to be coming from my trunk on the right hand side where the little vent looking thing is, running through my trunk and into my backseat where it is forminga puddle. Then it drips on my rear floor board.
I also have it leaking from my driver side seat belt track as well
Passenger seat belt track is leaking and gekko’s fix is not going to help. I looked into that fix and it’s pretty much impossible according to the laws of gravity. I can’t figure out where it’s coming from.
freakin cars are getting old man. Anywhere two peieces of metal come together is a probable leak area. All over the car there are lap joints covered in seam sealer (weather proof glue) and the goop dries up over time, cracks and leaks. Even where the door hinges bolt onto the car need to be sealed up.
I recently gutted my entire interior to chase down all the leaks. Seemed like every time I fixed a leak I found another. My biggest problem was the sunroof. The drains were not clogged up, but the metal on the sunroof assembly where the draintubes go was rusting away. I had to pull the whole sunroof assembly out and fix all the rust.
