and you have proof of this, i.e dynos vs other brands(greddy,dc,rs*r,thermal)? how can you make such claim? how would this exhaust make more power than any other, i mean, whats so special/unique about it?
pretty bold statement about an exhaust system without any details on why its more powerful than other brands.:bored:
I know this post is old but I have a question. I’ve got a custom 2 1/4" catback system on my car with a universal muffler in the same location as the stock muffler. It’s super loud, I liked it when I first got the car but I’m tired of it now, wanting a quiet, preferably stock sound. Question is, if I go to a muffler shop and ask them to cut out my muffler I have now and weld in a new one, what muffler should I request? I’d like a quiet sound but don’t want anything too restrictive. Also, to get it stock sounding will I also need a resonator?
you can go with a dynomax super turbo muffler. its a chambered muffler from what i can remember that won’t be loud like a straight thru muffler. to tone things down more, i would recommend getting a resonator installed if there isn’t one already.
chambered style mufflers tend to be more quiet than straight thru ones.
Thanks for the info. I’m turboing my car this summer so I really don’t want to spend too much money on exhaust right now considering I’ll need a larger one anyway, just need a temporary fix to my loud exhaust. Would a dynamax like you mentioned be fairly close to stock sounding if used with a resonator?
i’ve had both the ebay obx catback and now i have the thermal R&D and both are pretty quiet, only really noticable at WOT and not very loud then either
my friend and i both have thermals and we have had no problems with them, they are excellent exhausts. the only thing with the civic system is it is a hella lot louder. the g2 teg one is pretty quiet. i love it.
I talked to a muffler shop and they said they could weld in a dynomax super turbo for about $100 or so. I’m going to take it by either today or tomorrow and let them look and make the final estimate. Does this sound reasonable? Also, do you think that it would quiet my exhaust substantially?
Just and update. Got an estimate, ordering the parts on Monday. Dynomax super turbo muffler and a new stainless steel 2 1/4" tip all installed for $130.00 Sounds reasonable to me and the guy was really friendly so I’m gonna go for it, can’t stand the super loud exhaust anymore, especially with chicks in the car.
When I bought my DA, it already had the exhaust replaced at aome point in time by the previous owner… They put on a 2" diameter pipe (not as big as i’d like, but it works for now) w/ one resonator (glasspack of some sort) and a Magnaflow muffler in the stock position. They just ended it w/ pipe out the back, so I took it to Meineke & had them weld on a dual chrome/stock-looking tip, and this exhaust sounds AWESOME. It definately doesn’t amplify the sound of the motor like other aftermarket cheap ass mufflers do, and sounds nice & agressive all the way up to redline. never gets rice-sounding at all.
I got the Dynomax Super Turbo put on today as well as the new tip. Much quieter than my old muffler. The guy at the shop said it was just a universal cherry bomb that had rotted through, no wonder it was so damn loud. This one still has a good sound, maybe a little too loud. I like the sound but it still has a crackle/buzz when I really get on it. I might get a resonator put in to help out.
i got an RS*R but not the Ex-Mag … i got the GTII … its very deep, loud and can shake the ground (straight pipping as well) … however, when my buddies and I installed it with its silencer. It sounded like a stock 350Z
I took out the silencer cause it looks funny for me … but maybe to some ppl it looks ok… good luck finding the kind of quiet exhaust your looking for
i hate exhausts. Theyre to loud for daily driving and to be honest it played out. Everyone has an exhaust i mean everyone. Why risk getting pulled over for it. Ive been pulled over to many times for it. How i see it you have two choices. 1) you gey 2 1/4 inch piping with no cat and a stock muffler. 2) you buy an electronic cut out so when your ready to race you can open it up, get the peformance and it’ll sound tight as fuck when the vtec kicks in. That way you can open it up running open header and close it up while your daily driving sounding stock. I just ordered mine not to long ago. My friend has it on his da and i think thats whats tight now. I will post exactly who it works and how much it costs after i get it put on.
There are exhausts such as DC Sports (and RS*R I believe) that already meet the 95 DB sound limit aka you can’t get pulled over. Nor are they annoying for daily driving.
Installing something like this seems like way too much trouble for me. Plus I think my DC Sports sounds sick as hell
ive never understood people who say things are “played out” :hmm:
i mean who really gives a f**K. i mean if u went by that logic you would NEVER do anything since someone else has always had the same thing or done soemthing the same or similiar before.
i personally got an exhaust because
mine stock one rusted out
i like my aftermarket one
who cares about “played out” get it if u like it
however i do AGREE on not getting a loud ass one if u want to avoid run ins with the police
"ive never understood people who say things are “played out”
Well i dont know where you live but where i live everyone has it. I understand youre point of view but in my case and my city its “played out”. Its nothing unique here. Now what i posted (the electronic cut-out) is something different for those of us who want to stand out and not everyone is gonna do it cause it kinda pricy compared to an exhaust that you can buy for $30 on ebay. Well what im trying to say if youre gonna put an aftermarket exhaust make it worth it. Make sure you at least get horsepower out of it cause its always a risk of getting pulled over (at least in california).
