welded blockguard questio.... help...

i am about to start building my motor this weekend and some one mentioned to me that if i was putting in a blockguard i should do it the right way wick is welding it in… im just wondering who has a welded block guard and is that tha route to go…and has anyone heard of this cause i haven’t so please help… any feedback would be appriciated…and also another question not turbo related but i bought a (zc) 1988 LS head is it the same head as in the G2’s? i know the cams from 90-91 are different from 93-93 but is the (88) ls head the same for the most part i mean it looks the same… but just give me your input on that too if anyone could cause im not sure… thanks…

ummm could someone help please insted of just looking… have you heard of a welded block guard or not??? is simple…???..please i don’t have much time…THANKS

just fill in the empty spaces with solid lead…that’ll hold it together…lmfao!!! j/k… no need to weld it.

Yes they can be welded in. Do they NEED to be welded in, no. If I was using a blockguard I would not have it welded in. Its extra work that you’re going to have to pay for that isn’t necessary and has to be done right the first time. Not worth the risk…

ZC head will not fit B18A block

please don’t bring back year old threads when you already have a thread started with the same question.

thanks alot harberdasher… now i know what to do with the block guard and im not going to welded in… i just needed to know if fellow turbo g2ic’ers had theirs welded in…and thanks for the info on the head… the guy i bought it from is a g2ic member and he told me it was and ls head i bought it from him a while back at a meet he went lsvtec and didn’t need it anymore… but now when i gave it to my mechanic to port it he noticed it was an 88 i did not know that… but my mechanic told me that it’s the same the only thing that changed was the cams… just wondering why you say it won’t fit the block, because the exhaust and intake gasket is the same as my 92 motor and so is the head gasket… so is their any particular reason why the 88 head won’t fit that you know of…??? any help would be appriciated… thanks again…

Block guards were designed to just be taped in a 1/8th of a inch down the coolant jacket. People have welded them in with no problems but there is a method when doing so. And thats to check by way of measurements all the way around the blockguard that it is equally down the coolant jacket in every cylinder a 1/8th of a inch. Then its imparative to line cone the cylinders like you would with installing a block girdle, because of the heat when welding can distort the cylinder. But I would just tap it in and call it a day.

good point with the heat from welding distorting the cylinder walls

hey thanks guys i think it will just be tapped in… seems too much trouble to weld… thanks again…
