What an experience...

Since January 2002 this year, i’ve been peicing together a custom turbo kit and I finally finished purchasing everything I needed at the end of june.

I went with:

Garrett T3 AirResearch
Drag Manifold
Turbonetics Wastegate
HKS Blow Off Valve
Starion Intercooler (welded with outlets on the side)
Vortech FMU
Bosch Inline Fuel Pump
Autometer Boost/Air Fuel Gauges
Drag Piping from an Integra
And all the other stuff (oil lines, vaccuum, etc)

Now came the time to install everything, I phoned around my city and asked for quotes for installing the turbo and i’ve got quotes from (800-1600 cdn) just for a freaking install! At this point I was ready to say screw the turbo and sell everything I bought, but then I though it took to long to peice together all the parts, and all the time I spent finding the parts, so I wasn’t going to stop just yet.

At this point I thought that it wouldn’t be to hard to install everything, so I started taking stuff out of my car (a/c, old intake, header) July 1st. Everything seemed to be going good, untill I ran into a problem with the fuel pump install, but my friend ended up comming over and helping me with it. Also the piping wasn’t exactly fitting right due to this not being the drag kit with the drag intercooler, so I had to get a new peice of pipe made (traced everything out with card board got shop to make it). Another problem I ran into was the bumper wouldn’t fit on with my intercooler in the way, but I took Haberdasher’s advice (cut…cut it…cut it baby…). Other then that, everything went smooth!

So now pretty much 1 month later, and I’m finished! Started up the car tonight (no downpipe, very loud!) and got an appointment at the muffler shop monday to get my downpipe made. Can’t wait till monday to actually drive it! I’m going to be running 7psi.

So all and all, it was a great experience installing everything! I learnt alot of new things.

Just though I’d share this with you all!

yorktonite…do have any pictures of the install? feels good to be boostin’…

No pictures at all…

I can get pictures of everything in there after!

Nice i want some pics

congrats:D

good choice to install it yourself… save money and learn something at the same time! lots of patience will end up with good results. post some pics if you can, and happy boostin!

btw… how much did the muffler shop charge to get the downpipe done? did you already have the flange? just curious. Thanks

Boost is great! Never felt anything better in my life, probably the best investment I made in my car…

I talked to my friend today (he has digital camera) and he said he might be able to swing by wedsneday or thursday! So I should have pictures posted by then…

veejay: I paid 65 (cdn) to get a downpipe made… that is roughly 42 us…They also made a flange for it…
