I have a choice between a full B18B motor out of a 95 LS, for $250 but it has rod knock, and the crankshaft can be micropolished, because as soon as the knock started and owner never drove the car again. Or a b16 shortblock for $200, with bad rings, I work at a machine shop so it’s easy to fix either motor. I will be going boost, in the long run which would be a better buy, because if I get the b16 I still need to find a head and re-wire the car for vtec, but the LS is a longblock and has everything I need, but doesn’t have as much potential as the b16 does in the long run. Opinions??
If you love the VTEC motor then spend the money and effort into building a powerhouse B16. If boost is more your cup of tea, then build the shit out of the LS and boost it. Lots of fun could be had with Either motor, Considering where you work, you definetely shouldnt have a problem building either. So, its up to you. Really fast or Really fast and reliable.
in the end, the VTEC motor will be better. but the LS is a better choice i think. cuz u can boost the B18B now and add a vtec head later and have something that is even better then a b16 swap. b16 short block is worthless!
ls/v turbo ftw. if you build it right of course.
Since both blocks need a rebuild your better off using the b18b block. You seem to have your mind set on a vtec head anyways so why not. For the longest time I never really cared about torque and I like the ability to rev high.
thats funny. cuz for the longest time i never cared about VTEC, i just wanted a lot of trq. Now i’d almost rather have a car thats .5 seconds slower, as long as it’ll rev out to 9000 rpms. :loser:
id say screw the b16…def get a ls motor and boooost it
