I am turboing my 91 teg and am looking at about 200-250 whp, so i was wondering what rods or pistons to get without breaking the bank.
also can i use ITR pistons instead of aftermarket ones? will they last.
and 1 last thing how good are Top Line Rods? there cheap so im skeptical.
im trying to go cheap because this is just my new junker that i want to drive around every so often and this is my first time doing major motor work, so i wont be dissapointed if something happens.
anything over 300whp imo, should consider aftermarket rods or pistons so later on you can make more power if you choose too
if you are sure your going to be happy with 250 or 300whp then stay stock, but anyone that is turbo’ed is going to tell you its more addictive then crack; boost that is
if u can afford it buy je pistons and crowler rods there is a guy here in my town with a g3 with a b18b ls and he is pushing around 3 but he did a turbo, pistons, rods, vtec head and other things. when he was bone stock, clutch and all he put down about 198 before tuning and 210 after on small turbo now with minor internals and small turbo hes putting down 298 i believe.
Again someone is trying to recommend to this guy that he buy more than he needs to for his goals.
FOR ONCE, some guy comes on here and actually posts his realistic goals, and then people tell him to buy all the cool parts they read about on Honda-Tech when you can boost a stock LS ALL FUCKING DAY on stock internals at 200-250.
Take the $1000 on machine work and engine internals these asshats are telling you to buy and put on suspension and traction components for a better ride and better handling. Springs, Shocks, wheels, tires, brakes, traction bars, etc…
i wasnt trying to say whats cool and not, I was simply trying to say what he got with what he had, In conclusion a small turbo with no internals isnt gonna give you 300hp. A big turbo might depending on your tuning. I understand his goals but stock internals and a small ass turbo is only gonna give you about 200 just letting him know that so there is no reason to be an ass about it and try and flame me.
im not completely trying to be an ass but how many people come on here ask “what should my setup be” and we all tell them to search and tell us your goals.
this guy asked a legitimate question, and posted exactly what his goals are and he gets people telling him to buy $1000 worth of unneccessary parts mulitple times…just ticked me off.
well thats cool i was just letting him know about what he’s gonna get with what setup. So he has more than one option in front of him. were here to help ppl thats all i was doing. And it helps cause not everybody wants the same setup.
ok guys, i know ill be happy because my brother has a lexus is300 with 320 whp but the car is very heavy especially with the systems and 19’s i liked it. and i know are cars will seem a little faster cause there lighter and on top of that my car is gutted, i will only use this car every once in a while cause i have a daily driver. But my thing is if i have a decent size turbo with good tuning and i turn the boost to whats neccesary, will i be able to make 250 whp, if so what turbo to get that will put out that number and maybe more in case i upgrade later for more power?
But you do know that better rods give more horsepower, I saw it on HT last week, its like 20whp just on upgrading the rods only. :giggle:
radioactive77- I think you get the point, if your shooting for no more then 300whp then dont worry about the stock internals. Me personally Id take the extra money and make sure my management was 110% perfect so your motor will last longer, then take whats left and buy the suspension parts
But I said it once and Ill say it again, Boost is addicting!
When using force induction is always good to be safe then sorry, but your horsepower goals can be accomplished with an oem rotating assembly. You should get custom pauter rods and cp pistons…they’re not cheap but at least you wont see a rod through your block if something goes wrong…my 2 cents. Angell
