got a part number for that??
part number for what?.. oil pump o-ring?
its a serious job to get to the oil pump o-ring… gotta pull the timing belt… and a bunch of shit… its far worse than a timing belt job for a $1.50 o-ring
online acura catalogs seem to have the wrong o-ring listed for our oilpumps… no idea why… my mechanic had a part number writen down that he ordered for ours when we got it done
ok, called Acura, asked em about what it could be, Crank Seal was what they said. - that was the guy in parts
then the guy in service said it could very well be my cam seal leaking bad, because all the pressure when the car is on would make it come out a lot. or he said a cam end plug.
cam end plug is distrib side of the motor… crank seal and cam seals are both seals to do with a timing belt change
as for the motor… what year did it come out of?.. and how old is it since its last rebuild if it has one?.. because i still say it could be a oil pump o-ring if as old as the g2’s… think about the presure that o-ring is force to handle all the time
According to the Helms manual, the oil pump o-ring is closer to the BACK of the motor. This leak is on the FRONT of the motor. I also have my doubts that oil leaking from the crank seal would find it’s way all the way up to the valve cover area.
oil pump o-ring is sorta the back yea… and crank seal… we had ours changed cuz it was free just pay for the part… dude works on nothing but hondas at that mechanic… (they have 5 guys) said he has never seen one go out… that was also the first b18 oilpump he had to pull off that had any problem… muchless something small like the o-ring leaking… but than he said he guesses its because of the age of the cars its just gonna start happenin more and more… but he deff said its pretty hard to have a crank seal fail because there not plastic like the others… specialy if thats a low milage motor… i seriously doubt that it would leak… if it does it shouldnt be more than a drop… hes got a serious leak… o-ring or valvecover gasket would probaly be the best ones for serious leaking… our oil pump o-ring was leaking at the front tho… it would run down the pump body and drip in the front…
Ok, how about clean your motor and check where the damn oil comes from. Everyone stop assuming and guessing because it’s throwing the poor guy for a loop.
yea the Acura place I called said they have never even sold a o-ring before.
but anyways guys, went to honda, bought the valve cover gasket, they were out of stock of the camshaft seals… so i just bought the vcg.
anyways went to my car, and it wont turn over so we push it and let go of clutch it turns… so yea starter is going… great!
anyways… it was INDEED the CamShaft Seals that were leaking… I took pics at my grandpas but forgot to host them while at his house, used his digi.
but we took that plastic plate off that covers the timing belt area, and put the valve cover on, and oil was spiratically spraying out of them and running down the front of the engine coming from the crease of the back part of the plastic and the side of the head.
the cam seals do not look worn at all, but it is were the oil is coming from and that would be the only thing that would be bad. so I have to order the parts and will have it fixed when they come.
I appreciate all your assistance with this!
EDIT: So I call Honda and say I want to order the camshaft seals, ya know the ones they said they had yesterday when I called and when I got there they didnt have them. Well, today they told me they have them in hand, with an invoice with my name on it!
better off than the o-ring deff… u gonna get them changed yourself or by somebody?..
because if u get somebody else to do them u might as well just do everything else just in case… goodluck… we changed a bunch of seals… and every time we did others turned up leaking… theres only one seal left on our motor that hasnt been changed so were almost finished
XcLuSiVTRM, I must say I disagree with your policy of buying parts before diagnosing the problem. My goal was simply to point you in the right direction, not to convince you to rush out and buy a gasket. But it sounds like it worked out for you anyway.
I’m still curious to see some pics of how bad this leak really is and where it’s originating. Good luck to you!
ill post the pics, the bad thing is, is it doesnt really show how bad, because I only clicked the engine over for a moment to see it start, it only leaks a little when its just “idling” but if I were to drive it down the road and come back it would have been a different story, but I dont want to risk hurting the motor at all.
radzero yes I am going to do it myself
oh and gogreen, i would be able to take the parts back if it wasnt the reason, the other reason i purchased before is because the acura place is 5 min from my work, my car is 45 min away frm the acura store, made everything more simple… like I said im friends with the parts manager at this place so my name is on discount for everything i buy and i get benefits of like… returning parts as long as i dont open them!
take pictures of the cam seals once off the car too… i wanna see that
ok will do… it was pretty weird…
oil was like spitting out, but not very badly, but thats probly only due to it idling and not driving.when i would rev it up it would spit out more. but what is weird also, timing belt had oil on it, but the cam gears them selved (inside) looked dry and the cam seals looked fine, but obviously if we saw oil coming from them thats not the case lol
your going to change the belt too?.. or just leave that one on?
im going to change it eventually, dont have the money for one right now. unless they arent much… let me call honda and get a price.
nevermind… im going to change it today… getting the oem honda belt for 47 bucks… sweeet
msrp is $58… so expect around that…
ive got a part hookup I know the Parts Manager at Honda near me…called Acura to get the part number and price they said 68 bucks + tax
called my buddy tim, he said for you … out the door is 47.38
sounds good… cost is $28 so they still makin good profit
