My turbo block build is going to begin within the next couple of months. I want to start by picking up all of the OEM parts first and since I plan on going with forged rods/pistons I’m not sure which bearings to get. Should I still choose the rod bearings the usual way (by matching the letter on the crank and the number on the stock rod)?
yes order the bearings just as u stated but make sure you check the clearances with plastigauge during assembly to check for proper specs…
Alright thanks for the response.
are Clevite the best?
Im not sure but I used those in my block.
king or acl will do fine also.
Most aftermarket bearings are just the colour green bearing size. Just a generic sizing that generally always “works”. But may not be ideal depending on the motor.
for my rod bearings i had to use red bearings, next to the smallest of rod bearings and my clearances were dead on with pauter rods. I have no clue how tight it would have been with ACL’s.
Did you choose your bearings by the letters/numbers on the crank and stock rods or just have the machine shop measure to see which ones were needed?
I had the machine shop measure the journals on the crank and measure the bore on big end of the rods and then there’s a math equation on laskeyracing’s website to find the bearing you need. even though Pauter rods come with a tech sheet, i still had them measured. can never trust nobody, but it was exactly what pauter said they were. the machine shop didn’t charge me anything to have them measured. ther were pretty cool about it.
