Which engine better

I have a choice between getting a b18c1 or a b18c5, cause i can get both for cheap, it is goin to go into a 91 ls and i plan to push around 20+ pounds of boust when im done with it, but i want to know if it would be more beneficial to change to obd1 or obd2 for b18c5 if it would be better, i dont dont know if it will make more of a diffrence but i would like your opinion.

are you planning on building this motor or just put it in and boost it, if you plan to just drop it in and boost it, i would buy the cheaper one because it wont take but 1 run to blow that fucker to shit with 20+ pounds of boost on a stock motor

Im goin to build it? i wouldnt buy an engine just to blow it up

i say buy the type r… make it obd1. good some good engine management and build it and run a huge turbo with lots of boost. i say obd1 because there are more options out as for tuning with the obd1 setup.

Actually i can get any engine for cheap, do you think a b16 would be better than a b18 in a teg?

Honestly, not trying to be an ass or anything, from what you’ve posted it sounds like you need to do a lot of research before you get into this.

Chris

I was just wondering what people had expirence with and how it worked out for them. And what people have done.

either i over looked it or something but r u boosting or going all motor??

boost, wonderin wich is the best platform to start off of and wich people had experience with and problems

i’d say the b18c1 since compression is lower or you could get the type r and lower compression…but go w/ b18c1 IMO

dude, Gs-r is a good boost platform but It doesnt mater if u could get them for cheap because u wouldnt want to run the high compression anyway soo ull prolly wanna get some internals. be smart get urself a set of headstuds, rodbolts, vtec head, LS short block, and a eagle vtec conversion kit… Its a cheaper more relaible build plus lsvtec vs gs-r/ITR lsvtec will morethan likly smash it but its ur build not mine, just do some research.

Speaking of research…

it all depends on how much $ u got, and wat kinda of power u want to aspect out of this thing.

personally, id go with boosting the GSR, the compression isnt that high, plus it’ll be cheaper than the ITR, and u can get it going alot faster than it too, for the money u save.

my buddy is gonna run 32PSI on his GSR motor, plus everything he has is forged.

my other friend is planning on boosting his type R soon, so ill see how that happens

theres ppl with all the motor swaps on here and im sure they all ran into problems…

Sounds like you should be asking for a write up on each swap and the aspects of its longevity/reliability.

theres tons of post each day with these conversations…im not trying to be one of them assholes that yells about searching…but if your on the forum at all youd see atleast 4 similar threads ea. day talking about diff swaps.

Just take a sec and scroll through a few pages… trust me youll find something useful.

buy the cheapest one you can find and dump all the money into a rebuild. you can email me at rlb92gsr at hotmail if you want. I am in minnesota as well.

you are thinking backwards. the motor will be built so the c1 would have higher compression assuming the motors had the same machine work and pistons. plus itr motor is great motor for boost or n/a right out of the box. i think i remember hearing it is balanced to a tighter spec, higher c/r = faster spool, bigger cams + better valvetrain, then the intake mani is awsome for boost too. so itr motor u really can’t go wrong unless u throw a turbo kit on it without tuning.

problem wise the only problems you should see are intake mani clearance, you need an itr or itr style mani. the turbo clearance with the full size integra radiator, easy fix is an aluminum civic replacement radiator. the downpipe clearance with the stock crossmember and air conditioning compressor.
