which exhaust for 300-350WHP? Skunk2 or Tanabe?

I was just wondering if the 60mm(2.36") pipe size of the Tanabe Concept G will be a problem at these power levels. these will be like the max I will look for, probably stay at/under 250 for a while. Will that exhaust be okay at ~250WHP, and also, will it be okay at ~350WHP? thanks! If not, I guess I’ll get the skunk2 (has 2.5" pipes), but I’d have to modify it for my '90, so I’d rather have the tanabe if possible. thanks for any/all help!

its not a matter of the exhaust being ok, its what supporting mods are you running inorder to have your >2.5" exhaust able to make 350whp?
id be more concerned on the restrictive exhaust sizes which you both named being a limiting factor.
and yes you can run a 2.5" but, why? a 3" gives a level of comfort knowing you didnt just spend a buncha cash on something that is more limiting than running that good ole Open Downpipe. + it flows better.

well, the only 3" for a DA is the Thermal, and I like the canister style systems more. Also, this is my DD, so I dont want it too loud, and I’m not trying to make a race car or anything. I may go with 3" if I can find a good piping kit or another bolt up one though. Also, the downpipe I got is 2.5", so I just figured2.4" all the way back would be fine. Since it will already be restricted up front. thanks!

just go custom, I have a da with a fully custom 3" exhaust.
its honestly the quietest exhaust, I have had a few different exhaust set-ups and I love the deep tone of my exhaust now…
its catless 3"turbo back, 24" resonator and a 3" flowmaster (oem style) sideways.

and 2.5 -> 3" will still benefit, when the heat from the exhaust exits the turbo it wants to expand and move as fast as it can, soo it being increased after downpipe is still a benefit.

OK, that helps! So a 3" piping kit with a 16" resonator and a N1 muffler will be a good setup? I will prolly have a test pipe instead of a cat, so that should help too. thanks for ur help!

that would be a great setup, I think you will be much happier with the performance and the fact you are saving yourself some loot on a custom setup.

shit if u have an exhaust right now, just get a straight back 3’ and hook ur current exhaust back up for inspection (1 time a year for PA)

with a resonator and an n1 and no cat it most likely wont be quiet enuff anyways (unless some1 has some db levels to get me wrong, last 1 i head was really fuckin loud) so go for the straigth pipe

I would go with the 3" with a resonator and muffler. Straight pipe would be louder than all hell. www.kteller.com has nice kits, from what I’ve hear they fit pretty well.

I think I’m going to get the skunk2 catback. It is 2.5", and I have talked to a few people that say it will be good up to 400HP, and If I go that high, I’ll buy a new exhaust. We dont have inspections or emissions in the county I live in, and cops arent really bad about exhaust noise/modifications, so I’m not worried about that. The only reason I want it to stay somewhat quiet is that it is my DD. I dont mind pretty loud (I had a tanabe racing medallion, and that was fine, louder than that would even be fine), but I dont want to get a headache everytime I drive the car. I think I will get the OMNI-POWER adjustable test pipe as well, that way I dont have to cut the brand new exhaust up to make it fit my '90 teg. I’ll weld the cat heatshield onto it to make it look all good, and I may switch to a high flow cat at a later date. Thanks for your imput, and I may still take ur advice of 3", but I am not sure yet. I just want to be able to hook it up right now when I’m NA, since I havent yet finished collecting all the parts for my build. thanks again!

well its not that you wouldnt be able to make that 350/400whp you are looking for but, it will flow less making it a little harder to make that power.

kteller.com

yea. there is no “good up to”

the more free flowing your exhaust is after your turbo the more hp u will make. hell u could run a 3/4 inch exhaust if u want to.

u wont see terrible performance from a 2.5 inch exhaust, but u will make more power on a 3 inch.

i would think 3" would hang pretty low. dual 2.25" or oval 3" would be sweet. y not e-cut your stock exhaust?
