Which is better?

I have just put an intake on my car, now Im in the process of buying a muffler… does anyone have any suggestions on what to get? I want a deep sound… nothing like a pissed off bumble bee or mower… What brand does everyone recommend?
miss 92 integra ls driver :-*

i’m not sure what brand is best, but just so you know, you’re not going to get any real usable power out of just a muffler. If you combine it w/ some larger piping it may help a little, and if you get a real catback (mandrel bent) that would be even better. But still, without some real power making mods (i.e. cams, headwork, raised compression). Not sure if you knew that already, so i figured i’d give the info.

try an obx bomb muffler w/ silencer. im hearing good things about this muffler in the product reviews forum

do a thermal cat back, i love mine and highly recomend.
i hope that intake you did was an AEM!!!

no… it wasnt… but i also didnt buy it… my brother did… its an APC. But hey it was free… and when I decide what muffler to get, Ill get a better intake. Why do you recommend AEM? What makes it better than Iceman or anyone else?
Be patient with me… Im learnin…lol

you don’t need a better intake. the apc will be fine. If you want to upgrade it a little then you can make the cold air extension (courtesy G2Guru --check teg tips). The only drawback to the apc is that the filter might not flow quite as well as the K&N that comes w/ the AEM, so you could consider upgrading to a K&N filter as well (should cost $20-$50). Either way it would be much more inexpensive than buying an AEM. personally i think AEM is way overpriced, and i would never buy one… but maybe i’m just cheap.

I love Thermal too, but you know that thing gets blown out and raspy after too many sessions! Is yours maintaining its stealth tones when not under power, cause any thermal ive ever had eventually gets obsene!

besides engine mods and big expensive things like that, what little things do I need to do to help out on power a little bit? like spark plugs and little inexpensive thing like that? I want to work on the small inexpensive stuff before i start really spending my money on the more serious things… Do lower cars go faster, by the way… or does it matter?

Yup, the lower the faster…j/k
You also need seatbelt pads, and LOTS of vinyl!..hehe

Cheap to do list-

Cap & rotor
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
Oil filter
Oil change
107+ octane

Basics are very important

racing pedals=15hp
seatbelt pads=10hp
stickers=2hp each
just kiddin he he

yeah the thermal is still goin good

and yes spend the money for the AEM, more hp dyno pruven
(no i do not work for AEM)

Yo… miss_92_integra,

assuming from your profile you are new on here…??.. so UumM… welcome…! !.. you don’t know the trim level of the car – GS RS LS GSR etc…? ?.. but it’s a Teg so, you’re cool… good luck with the car…!!..

show us the dyno results. First off is it cai vs cai? or the aem cai vs a standard short ram? obviously the cai will be better. Plus the aem has a k&n filter like i said before, thats probably why it may flow a little better. For about $100 you can make your own cai w/ k&n filter. and the dia of the piping will be 3" opposed to 2.5" or 2.75 —smaller piping may or may not be a good thing depending on your application. I’m not in any way saying that the AEM is a bad product… because its a very good product. I just don’t think its worth what it costs. and the smaller piping might not be what you’re looking for in an intake.

Welcome to the board, i hope all the members here help u with any problems u have with your car

and on the lowering question, no lowering your will not make your car faster, but will increase how well your car handle’s somewhat, since your car is lower it can take turns better then at stock ride height

As for a muffler, why not get a complete cat-back system? a Greddy MX is nice and deeped toned, not a loud farting bee sound. It’ll run u a good price though, but well worth the saving and money u spent

And as 91integGS mentioned, doesn’t really matter what brand of CAI u have, but the filter matters

Well If you need anymore help im sure the OG members that have been here for a while and built plenty experience and know how will be glad to help u

P.S.- if u need anymore help on the lowering of the car, please ask, i’ll help as much as i can with that area

AEM cold air intakes run $190 + s & h at www.coximport.com, not too bad, at AEM’s site they show a dyno chart showing a gain of 9 hp stock vs cai installed. Sure it’s their website, but i have not heard one person saying an AEM cai was not worth it. You can get a greddy mx cat back exhaust, which is probably the best for the money, for around $500 plus s & h.

Lowered cars handle better, but lose speed in the process. The way i understand it is, all of the joints are under a lot more stress, so not as much power gets to the wheels. But i’m not sure about that. All i know is lowered = slower, but the lower the sexier ;). I’m lowering mine an inch, courtesy of an Eibach pro kit from coximport and kyb agx shocks up front and tokico blues in the rear. If anyone is wondering, coximport is very reliable, i got UPS 3 day select shipping for $18 on my springs, got here in 2 days after i hit the order button. And their site is pretty cool, not a huge selection of products, but there’s plenty to shop there for.

The cheapest ways to get any true performance out of your car besides the basic tune up is an intake, header, or exhaust. Anything the same price or cheaper will probably not gain as much hp in your car as those things, unless you get NOS…

lowered car with the right suspension setup(camber kit, strut bar etc) should not go slower-if so…how?? stress-even w/ camber correction?

eck, do not use nos, nos is a easy way out and in my opinion isn’t really a true way of getting good HP, yes you’ll get a boost of power, but in return your causing lots of stress to a bottom end you haven’t built, and also top end

and you wont loss speed on lowering your car, you may be yes causing stress on the boots of the axels since your are changing the toe from it’s stock settings, and cause the axle to be at a un-natural angle, but nothing will cause your car to go slower unless your put stickers and altezza’s on it lol

I would recommend that you get a header instead of an exhaust. I have the Chikara tork step and love it. Some will rag on it but I got it for under $200 and can feel the power increase in the midrange.

I was joking about the NOS ;). If you do the suspension right, with the camber kit and such, you may not lose speed, but from what i’ve heard of non lowered cars doing better than lowered cars. Oh well, i never said that lowering was a bad thing, just may take away a little speed.

Got my AGX adjustables and tokico blues in today so i’ll be droppin my car an inch with the eibach pros. Should i slap the Eibach sticker on my car :D. Now if only NOPI would ship my aluminum shift knob and clear corners i could start makin my teg look sexier. I should’ve ordered the shocks and the accessories on the same day, i ordered the shocks a day later and they’re all ready here, while the knob and clear corners haven’t even been shipped yet. Ahh well, i guess it’s better to get those broken springs replaced than gettin rid of that nasty yellow lens.
