Which turbo do u guys prefer for a B18a?

Ok… which turbo do u guys prefer

a t3 from a volvo or a 14b 1g dsm

i have a turbo manifold with a t3 flange and was thinking about using the t3 but i recently got the 14b and its still very good and i could tell it was recently junked. I cant find an adapter plate to actually mount the sucker to the t3 flanged manifold so i’m debating whether to use the old t3 or to search around a lil more and use the 14b,

so which do u guys prefer, in terms of power and reliability with the fact that age of the turbo plays into this.

T3

does the volvo have a standard t3 flange? 5bolt downpipe? you would need to be 100% sure because sometimes it may look the same but be a little off.

14b’s have rebuild kits, flanges, parts, etc. readily available. tested and works well with b18a.

and the T3 doesn’t? :hmm:

i would go with the T3 although im not to sure how much bigger it is i know that it will be able to provide more HP and still spool very fast. i have a t3 .42/.48 and i was told it will spool insanely fast like ~2500rpm but its still bigger then a 14b.

T3

not if its proprietary. its easier to find and locate a 14b than to find a good oem t3 to work with. else, step up to a good t3 yes.

by proprietary do you mean from a oem car? because i have one from a saab 900. am i going to have problems finding parts? because ive already found a rebuild kit.

it depends on the specific model ya. the bolt pattern may be off which means you’ll need a custom flange, or the oil/coolant hole may be wierd or need to be threaded, or it may be hard to clock (rotate) and need grinding of tabs or something. if you found a rebuild kit that’s good. i guess the above is more of a custom labor type of thing.

thks for the feedback guys,

The best T3 OEM turbo I have used so far is the Skyline RB20DET or better yet the RB25DET (harder to find) one.

Ball bearing .4 A/R exhaust .5 A/R compressor and the RB25DET one has a .5 A/R exhaust and .6 A/R compressor.

Start spooling at 1000RPM and Full spool at 3000-3500

pick up a 60 trim with a 48 ar or a 63 ar. spools fast, and still makes good power, fun little turbos…

fuk the t series turbos.

get a small gt series like a gt28r with t3 housing. FAST spool. spool starts at 2200/2300. people have made 400 hp with these turbos.

also its a 60 trim

:ban:

the gt28r will not make 400whp a gt2840r will just bearly make 400whp. the thread starter is talking sub $200 turbo’s then you say fuk that buy a $1000 turbo.

dont get me started. i said gt28r. because just like t3/t4 turbos they come in diffrent specs. Just shorten it.

If i prove you wrong. How about you get banned.
If you dont know i have a b16 motor capable of 500hp.
I had a gt28r tuned by stoopid. shut up :dunno:
i also had a sc61 before the gt28r.
Now i have a gt30r.

Also gt28’s dont cost 1000 they go for 750/850 new

why you calling me out.
talk about the guy saying his turbo started spooling t 1000.lmao it aint a supercharger. all turbos have lag. some have alow some have a little

are you guys on coke or something, or maybe had one too many frappucinno down at the fashion mall picking up young boys? you need to calm the f down… :-*

head down to the drag and get yoself a 20 of reefer or something mane, shit.

ok, and you didn’t make more than 400whp. you talk like having a built b16a is anything special… LS/vtec here, darton sleeves 84.5mm bore, one-fab topmount, sc6152e, 125 shot single stage… AEM EMS… etc, etc. has made over 550whp without the spray.

just get it over with and whip them out guys…sheesh

If you can spend 500 for a decent cat-back exhaust, why not spend an extra hundred bucks for a t3/t04?

Depending on trim they are good up to 400whp or so. I understand it looks like you wanna do some type of budget set-up, but in the long run you will have spent less because you WILL want to upgrade later. C’mon, just save for an extra couple weeks.
