White92LS531's restoration/build progress thread. Pic heavy.

Hey, guys. So i’ve been away awhile, not doing much to the teg due to the economy and money issues. Recently i decided to sell it for a downpayment on somthing newer and finance it, well within 2 days i had changed my mind mostly because of a very generous offer from a family member who would buy me some major things i needed and lend me some money to help deal with the costs.

I bought the car when i was 17 for 3600, had low 300k mileage and was in all around OK condition, im 23 now thats 6 years ive had the car and had barely driven it. So i knew that i would regret selling it with putting all the time and money into finding some rare parts, and the fact that it was my first car. I had a vision of what it would look like and it would kill me to never get to see that in person. It went through a ricy stage at first (white interior, R33 style body kit etc, but that soon changed. But enough with the life story, heres some details.

Plans:
Engine & Transmission
JDM B18C5 swap from Hmotorsonline
Hydro internals + LSD swapped into cable case
Remove Power Steering and swap with EF rack (Quaife quick steer kit in the future, maybe sooner)
A/C removed
Chipped ECU
Aluminum radiator, Koyo or Mishimoto, plus the slim fans to match.
Samco or Spoon Rad hoses
moderate tuck in the bay, fusebox probably, eliminate any unneeded underhood crap.
Rywire engine harness w/ labelling option.
usual tuneup parts on the new motor, all OEM
Suspension/Brakes/Wheels
Koni Yellow/Ground control coilovers with all 4 tophats
Function7 LCA’s
Energy Suspension Master kit
Noltec rear trailing arm bushings and compensator arm bushings.
Skunk2 front and rear camber kits
stock front sway with ES bushings
ASR rear subframe brace and 24mm sway bar
Strut bars and Tie bars (Skunk 2 maybe, hopefully something like Spoon or Cusco, havent really looked.
Miracle Cross X-brace
Legend front brake upgrade (2-piston caliper, 11.1" rotor)
Probably Hawk HP-Plus pads
ATE Super Blue/ Typ 200

And as much hardware i can get from Honda, the first batch is costing me about $400 with 2 lower balljoints (50 each) the rest is bolts, nuts, castle nuts, cotter pins etc. There are some things i have laying around already like the JDP lip, Legend calipers and Prelude rotors, Mugen replica sideskirts.

The priority right now is to get the car onto the suspension so it can be taken for bodywork and paint. Im thinking a dark metallic gray, maybe the gray Ridgelines come in. Im eventually doing a custom HID job but for now it has one-peices. I also have thin moldings and door visors to put on.

So heres some teaser pics of the interior i started last year (used to be palmy blue) and some extra stuff i have around. Sorry for he pic quality but its from my iPhone, cant find my camera cable. More pics on Thursday and Friday, 2 days off.
POR-15 came in yesterday.

Good luck man!!

Looks good man. When I bought my car it had a palmy blue interior also which was quickly sold and replaced with black. I love the inside of my car now compared to the blue. I especially like the shift boot/knob and the e-brake cover you have. Care to share what brand they are and where you got them? Also, what are those switches on the plastic e-brake cover?

Thanks guys.

rollinmyda- the interior i actually cleaned and I redyed it black. The rear trunk panels were all messed up with white paint, so im trying something new and im going to undercoat them. Go for a bit of a different look i guess.

The shifter area is a Skunk2 shortshifter, with the matching Skunk2 knob. Real Type-R shift boot, the E-brake boot was custom made and the E-brake handle is a Momo (its polished, hence the glare over the logo. but i can get you a better picture), the OEM armrest, not pictured obviously, is upholstered to match. I can get a better pic for you though. The switches nearthe E-brake are for the windows, i relocated them to eliminate the rubber handle on the door, just a little personal touch i suppose.

Heres a picture of one of the rear passenger panels i finished up. The material is a vinyl thats pressed to look like a carbon fiber type pattern.

^ loving it. where did you get the item? are there different colors?

The vinyl? Yea there are alot of colors. I bought it from a local upholstery shop.

that interior panel looks realy good:up:

Thanks alot, i know i was really happy with it. Playing around with the idea of putting black piping around the red panel. Just to hide some of the areas where the metal was imperfected.

I have the next 2 days off so ill be doing a variety of things in the garage. Ill have alot more pics of how the exterior stands (hideous haha) and maybe some engine bay shots. But for now, these just came in today…

I didnt know the fronts came with anchor bolts.

Im going to give the front kit a shot, my car wont be dumped, but tucking and hopefully the caster doesnt get too far off with approximately -1 degree camber all around. At the end of may the whole suspension setup will be going on at once. ill lower it, clock the RTA bushings properly Then send it for alignment and see how the caster turns out, if its good ill keep it, if not ill pick another kit for now. The rear kit looks great, looks very sturdy and very well made (and the front kit for that matter) plus i love hard anodized stuff, the finish looks so good.

EDIT- i dont know why it flips some of my pictures. When i upload to Photobucket the picture shows up correct in my folder, but when i upload it flips it. Sorry, i need to get a new camera.

Just a couple hundred more and ill be ordering the Koni/GC/function7 combo. :cross:

that panel looks great …nice work. I been looking for something nice like that to do my panels.

Thanks…its not really easy by any means. the material is kind of stiff, its got some stretch but not much. I need to get more materials so i can finish the rest, and redo the armrest.

do you know where i can get some of that vinyl??

i just went to an upholstery shop and was looking through samples and came across it. I suggest thats what you do.

Finished cleaning out my garage today and took a couple pictures.

Ugly fender, never got to strip it all, probably do that tomorrow.

Possible new location for the S2000 start button, thinking about getting a doule din DVD unit.

AAAAND some engine shots…

Previous prop valve relocation. Gonna fix this and hide the lines.

I wanna get rid of as much of this shit as i can when i take the motor out.

Anyone know is you can get this sticker anywhere? Its a factory sticker, buti want to replace it after the car is painted.

Got a new jack and jackstands this past weekend. The jack was a gift, Craftsman 3 ton floorjack, and i bought the jackstands the next day, Craftsman 3 ton jackstand with a 21" max height.

Jacked her up today and put the stands under, not sure what height is safe, so for now its on the lowest setting. Drained the transmission and pulled the axles as well. Next in line is cutting that damned LCA bolt and getting replacement nuts welded in. What happened was the bushing sleeve was rusted to the bolt inside it, so as i loosened it it spun but didnt back out because the sleeve was preventing it from moving side to side and it stripped the welded nut out. The other side was previously cut off but i damaged the lca and put a little nick in the mounting point so im going to figure out a better way to do it. Once again, not sure why photobucket flips some of my pictures.

Very nice work. I’ve got to give that vinyl a shot. Your door inserts look great. What did you use to stick the vinyl to the panels? I used super 77 made by 3M and it lasted about a week. Now my cloth is just sagging. I need to redo them bad.

Thanks. I used DAP Weldwood contact adhesive, sprayed on.

Did some more work tearing the rear suspension off.

Broke this bolt, then broke 2 extractors trying ot remove it, so i just ground off the nut-thing welded to the trailing arm. ill have another nut welded to a washer to replicate the original part and have that welded in place. Unless i can find the original part used.

removed the hub. Helm manual said it was a 22mm when its actually a 32mm. wheel bearing seems to be in great condition. might need to press the studs out so i can POR15 everything.

I want to take the shaft that the hub attaches to so i can POR15 the exposed surfaces, but i have no removal instruction or torque specs i my Helm, it not even mentioned. Big nut in the center, exactly opposite the spindle nut.

Ok ladies and gentleman, the suspension is just about gone. the only thing left is to cut the bolt holding the passenger front LCA on and chisel off the stripped out nut. Ill replace them with auto grade nuts and have them welded in place. Also i need to drop the shift linkage and take the front sway bar off. That should make the DA devoid of all suspension components.

I also need to cut a little door inside the car to get at the sliding nut for the drivers side compensator arm, the bushing sleeve prevented the bolt from backing out and it pushed the nut off its track inside the floorpan.

Koni/GC combo is getting ordered this week, as well as all new OEM hardware and LCA’s for the front, after thats done ill move to the rear…getting all new hardware and new trailing arms/compensator arms. In the meantime ill be cleaning/stripping/painting the wheelwells and underbody. Then ill be sending the Prelude rotors to get redrilled, and getting some of the brake parts together (Legend Upgrade with AEM/Nissin pads and Stoptech lines.)

Things are finally moving along.

could you post a picture of the pieces of interior that you have actually painted/or used the vinyl dye?

Good build going on man, good luck.

the builds coming along well it looks like. good choice on the legend brake upgrade, should suit you well, what are the intentions for the car? are we racing it, or just a daily with some fun

Its basically going to be a fun daily, but id really like to get into racing. Circuit-type racing is what im mostly interested in, however i havent looked much into it yet.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
90GsTurded-In the previous pictures posted there are a few examples of the interior panels ive painted. Some arent so great, however ill be removing the interior again this week, as i may be getting new panels and redoing it with the SEM Landau Black. i may be able to take some moe pics then. Everything in the previous pictures used to be Palmy Blue, and was sprayed with Duplicolor Flat Black Vinyl and Fabric paint.

Ill also have a few more pictures up soon, since a few goodies came/are coming this week.

As it stands it has zero suspension (one ebrake cable is stuck in its bracket). Ive also removed from the bay so far… cruise, the radiator and coolant reservoir, and the intake. Ill probably be ordering my hardware/tools from the dealership in the morning. Then i need to make room in my garage for a press, then im going to clean up the anchor bolts, and shock forks and paint them with POR-15, and install bushings. Might even get the tank dropped, if not ill start pulling the interior.
