are you using oem gaskets?
nope…thats my problem. using a feel-pro gasket from napa.
do you know how the oem gasket is made?
…some1 already posted a thread on how to change your oil pan gasket… check the tech part of the forums…i think spikey listed it?
thats not the problem ive changed many oil pan gaskets before. my problem is the really badly designed jobber gasket im using. ill let you all know how the oem gasket works.
felpro makes the best gaskets there are…no competition…i don’t know about “feel-pro”…but felpro is known as the best for any gasket
oem makes the best gasket. i changed mine 6 months ago and i had no pinching problems and im missing 2 bolts and it still doesnt leak.
on the oem gasket, is there a washer around the holes? i dont know if you know what i mean. like on my jobber gasket its just a piece of rubber so when you torque the bolts it just squeezes. some gaskets come with washers around the bolt holes so that when you torque down the bolt it actually torques and the gasket doesnt squeeze.
yeah I’ve been having a problem with my oil pan gasket leaking… Just replaced my second one in within the week… The one I put in today doesnt seem to be holding all that great either… I’ll be trying the OEM one soon
seems that OEM is the consensus.
I had mine replaced by a shop and its bone dry. The only reason why i’m low on oil towards the end of 3-5k is that its burning a little.
seems like we’re having the same problems:dunno: . im ordering an oem one tomorrow.
well guys i just did mine today. i used a fel-pro gasket. it’s a shitty gasket to say the least but i’m just trying to make it last through the winter. i used permatex black on both pan and block sides of the gasket. front of the pan the gasket squeezed out due to some pan damage (big dent). i made sure to add extra rtv on that spot. so far i’m letting it dry till tomorrow and throw some oil in it. i’m crossing my fingures that it will seal. wish me luck guys
is the gasket a blue in colour?and comes in a brown cardboard box?
yuppers! its shit but i’m a cheap bastard lol. i just cant justify spending anything while i’m throwing all my money at my fully built ls-t. i hate even putting oil in it. i have a love hate relationship with my teg lol. i’ve got an oem oil pan gasket but theres no way i’m putting a $55 oem gasket on this piece of junk haha. i’ll make sure i post what happens tomorrow when i put oil in it and run it.
good luck!! ive installed two new ones this week and both leaked 5 min after driving. what a waste of time and cash.
Two new OEM ones or the cheap ones?
i noticed when I pulled the felpro gasket back off that it was torn at a couple placed where the bolt holes are. I find it odd that a brand new gasket torqued to spec, in proper sequence is already torn after only being used for about 10 minutes… I mean the oil pan gasket before this one was leaking aswell but never tore, even after trying to use it twice, although the bolt holes in the gasket did stretch into an oval shape… Sounds like overtorque but im using the spec of 108 inch pounds with a 3/8 torque wrench.
what is the price difference between these fel pro gaskets and OEM?
substantial it seems.
when i changed out my my gasket it only cost me 24 dollars… weird.

yes it is. oem=55. felpro=24
well guys a quick update. i did the oil pan gasket and used permatex ultra black on both sides of the gasket. no leaks for first bit of driving. then i checked it. fuck oils dripping. i get under the teg as i’m cursing the felpro gasket already. well to my surprise its not the pan gasket :whew: damnit now i’m thinking the worst! well after some looking around i found the second cause to my major oil leaking…oil pressure sending unit on the back of the block is leaking like a mofo :worry: as u can tell at this point i’m not having a good day. well i ordered one and i’ll put it in tomorrow when i pick it up. so far i’m crossing my fingers now that the block isn’t cracked and the unit isn’t broken in the block. i’m hoping it’s just old and not sealing anymore
knowing my luck it’ll be broken or something worse. no other way to explain why it’s leaking or broken as i have never touched it…arg!
my oil pressure sending unit was leaking like a mofo as well. changed it with no problems. id idle for about 10 seconds and id have a puddle of oil under my car is was dangerous.
yep my felpro gasket looks exactly like that but its even more torn up. whats the deal with these shitty gaskets? youd think they figure out a problem like this and try to fix it.
