Hey i was wondering why do u guys swap your motors for a b16b?? is it just for vtec? If so then u guys are not that bright. for a motor that pushes 160hp which is good but for the torque 111lbs is bad cuz our cars weight 2500 lbs bone stock. It won’t move our cars to fast off the line. But w/ a b18c swap u get the torque 128lbs and the hp 170hp which could defenetly move our cars plus there is tones of bolt ons for this engine… not that there isn’t alot for the b16b but just u got more power to begin with…
You’re probably talking about the B16A. Completely different compared to the B16B which came off the Del Sol Si and 92-Up Civics. B16Bs cost just about the same as B18C1 (roughly $5000 Canadian). The B16A however, costs roughly $1200 Canadian. That’s the primary reason why people swap the B16A compared to other VTEC engines.

Thats fine if you have 160hp but if i am able to beat sir’s then whats the point of owning the engine. Obviously i am no going to put that engine in my car just because it has 160hp and vtec.
Don’t judge a motor by who owns and drives them (SiR/Si guys). By “beat”, do you just mean racing SiR guys down the street or at the drag strip? That’s fine if that’s your cup of tea (which I don’t care for at all). I would also say that in road course situations, B16A’s will walk all over B18A’s (which few will disagree with), but once again, this will depend on drivers. I’ve seen Honda guys pass up Vipers at road courses.
Stock motor vs. stock motor, the only advantage to the B18A is the torque. Power starts dying off after 5k whereas the B16A keeps generating more power all the way to redline.
I don’t want to start another pissing contest about which motor is better (because both have their advantages depending on what you do with it and what you want it to do), but not getting a B16A just because some SiR kiddies can’t drive their cars is just silly.
I agree with ryank but a couple solutions to solve the lack of torque would be to keep your b18 bottom when your b16 is in your car and build up on the bottom end then slap it back in there go ls/vtec and torque problem solved with added hp also, that or u could buy a b16a2 wich is the jap spec of the b16, instead of 160hp out of the b16a1, u get 170hp out of the b16a2, and i think a little bit more torque but not much.

I was thinking of swapping a b16 but after a bit a research I would probably regret it. reason? 1200 for a motor but another 2000 you gotta invest to make that sucker go. So I have to the point where I will just save up for a GSR engine and just have to live with my b18a for now.

B16A2 is not a JDM motor. All JDM B16A’s had no number designation after B16A. B16A2 is still 160hp with 111ft/lb of torque.
You are probably thinking of the 2nd generation B16A from Japan. It is rated at 170ps (not hp) which translates to roughly 168hp. The torque rating also translates to roughly 116.x ft/lbs of torque, which is about where the B17A is.
Im sorry, I really am not that impressed wiith the b16a’s, especially in our tegs. I beat a 92 Teg on the freeway and he even dropped it into fourth and pulled v-tec and i was in 5th gunning it and all I have is a Truust exhaust. So it really is driver vs driver in situations like that. Just thought this would help.
i dont understand why people think dropping a JDM b16a isnt worth it. i could very well be wrong about this but the b16a has a good aftermarket and as far as parts for our cars honda makes the best over many performance parts hence the b16a’s capability to hold ITR valve train and cams. i think the b16a is a good reasonably priced swap from our tegs. our tegs are around 10 years old, though the b16a might be sitting for a while u can ride on ur b18a and replace such items of concern while the motor is out. many people basically bash the b16a down to a performance topic and even their it is about on par with the b18a.just my opinion i cant keep quiet about it forever. :shy:
chingro ive asked plenty of people this question and about a handfull had the actually setup how is ur lsvtec holding up as far as how long has it been in and is it daily driven i was wondering cause i might get bored of the b16a and having almost the all the parts for lsvtec is kinda a no brainer.
The B16a is will worth it if you do the install right I put a jdm b16 from a 91 xsi and just kill a b18b in a race I walk all over the new gs-r to, I even raced 4 type r’s and lost to one, miss shifted. So I don’t wont to here it is not worth it:mad:

congrats on racing the stock cars…y dont u go up against some modified GSR…modified just like yours…
and tell me if it worth it…
now before u start talking crap, about i do not know what i am saying…here r pics of my B16 powered 1991 civic si b4 i sold it it has full exhaust, and intake, cams,Fields controller, and DC headers…and little extras
of course they have mods they are my friends, so I know what they have I/H/E and act clutch I run 15.0 @ 92mph with a 2.4 60ft as soon as I can launch at the track with a 2.2 that will be a 14.8-14.9 with that mph, Don’t be mad that my b16 is faster there you ls/vtec
