haha that good tony check this out dan actually told me about this
take a piece of wire like speaker wire and strip both ends! put your car in nuetral and make sure the ebrake is on and the key is in the start position so the battery lights ans such come on! the take the live wire put one end on the positive cable on ur battery and direct the other one to the nut on your starter where the postive cable runs to! if your car starts its your ignition switch located underneath your steering wheel and dash home boy!
peace!
<lately, every know and then, my car will try and turn, and then either start up and die or not catch. usually it starts up nice and quick. but today, it wouldn’t start up like 4 times in a row. i got worried. waited 10 seconds and then it started up>
I am having a similiar problem. My car has been tuned up with cap, rotor, spitfire sparkplugs, Accell wires and still the same problem. My car initially wouldn’t start at all, after bench testing the starter, I discovered it was bad. I realized that I had 2 different problems. Sometimes the car wouldnt’ do anything when I turned the switch. This was due to a bad starter. The second problem consisted of the starter turning but engine not igniting. Now I think the problem is narrowed down to the distributor (Coil or module). I tested the resistance on the ingnition coil and it was out of spec. Unfortunately I was told that this isn’t a reliable way to test ignition coils, even though my service manual says that it is (Chilton). What does the Acura Service manual say? Also, someone mentioned a hot day. I have noticed that this problem occurs on days that are considerably hot and also happens after a short trip. The thing that sucks is that this also could be a ignition module problem. If the coil is bad I am thinking of installing an external coil. Cheaper than buying stock.

THat guy is right check your Main fuel reley under the left side dash kicker panel it sould be half brown half black or somethin like that if you car wont start try tapping (kinda hard) it with a screw driver if this works then its the relay
Sounds like a coil issue to me. I’ve never had this problem. Probably because I didn’t wait 180k miles to replace my coil.
The next time this happens to you guys, can you watch the Check Engine light. My car does this every so often and now I have just gotten used to turning the ignition to the ON position and waiting for all the dash lights to come on. I wait and see if the Check engine light turns off, if it does, then I am good to go and the car starts, but if the check engine light stays on, it will turn over but not start up. Let me know what you guys see. Thanks.
Mine started doing that about six months ago, after replacing the timing belt, plugs, coil, fuel pump,I still cant get it running.I am trying the fuel pump relay today.Hope it starts. And for your sake,I hope like hell yours doesnt do what mine did!It started doing it every now and then,it got to where it was doing it every day. Finally,it just quit running altogether.I would try the fuel pump relay first. You can find out if the pump is getting voltage by removing your back seat. You cant get to the pump, but you can get to the wires.Good luck!!!

re: starting problem
Hey, this sucks because I just had my whole dashboard apart last week because I was replacing the starter relay. Don’t ask because it didn’t solve my problem. Anyways, it was a pain in the ass. My stupid chilton manual didn’t even have a diagram for all the screws etc, if anyone could scan a picture of that it would save everyone alot of time. So is it necessary to take everything apart in order to get to this “fuel pump relay” that everyone is talking about? Sheesh, maybe I should put in a carbon fiber bezel or indiglos in order to make it worth the trouble. I am sure the next time I do this it will be faster now that I am familiar with where all the screws are. If something doesn’t come out easy, there is a hidden screw. Could someone show me a diagram of how to access this Fule Pump relay? Thanks everyone, you guys rock!
Erik
all you got to do is take off the panel under the steering wheel and its a brown box 2" x 2" there are detailed in the Teg tips section
Hey man, that sucks you took your dash apart! May as well put indiglos in!! The relay is just as westcoastgsr says it is.Just under the steering column.Take the two screws out,get a 1/4 inch wratchet,6 inch extention, and a 10 mm short socket. The relay has another relay in front of it its about 1 inch by 1 inch. The one 10mm bolt holds both of them on.The one in front is black, the one you are looking for is brown, you cant miss it.I just went three weeks without my car running, all because of this part.I replaced the timing belt, coil, plugs, fuel pump, and finally the relay. She runs like a raped ape now!!!Good luck man!!!

The guy saying it was the main fuel relay is right… Yesterday, after work my car refused to start, after checking to see if I was able to hear the fuel pump, she wasn’t running… gave 2 little(hard) taps on the kick panel under the steering wheel and the car started fine… So i’ll be replacing my main fuel relay next week… When the car didn’t want to start, the CEL was staying ON the whole time instead of shutting off after couple seconds(to indicate the fuel pressure is OK).
Main fuel relay, here I come! :defend:
I have the samle problem. I think it is the fuel relay too.
The alternator doesn’t have anything to do with starting your car unless the battery is dead which then may be the alternators fault. If that is the case the battery light would probably come on the dash.
did you check this?..

i have this problem every so often too.it turns out that the switch on the back of my key cylinder was loose(it is held on by 2 philips screws). i would turn the key and it would turn over then shut off.after i tightened the switch it seems ok. just a thought, best of luck!

I think this has to be the most useful post I read on this bulletin board. For once, I did not know that the check engine light goes off after the fuel rail is pressurized. That explains why the CEL on my coupe turns off after switching on a couple of sec later and my sedan doesn’t. (Sedan won’t start, Coupe starts fine).
redss: simply try to swap the Main Fuel Relay from your coupe to your sedan. I’m pretty sure the sedan is gonna start with a new MFR! If it does not start, also check fuse #24 in the fuse box, this fuse controls the MFR and a couple sensors in the engine bay…
Glad my post helped!
RSTEG and 92GSR: My car had RSTEG’s exact same problem. I removed the electrical contact on the starter and cleaned both contact surfaces well. That totally solved the problem.
My car does this as well. I’ll check the Main Fuel Realy.
However, if that doesn’t work, I’ve been told that the Ignition Control Module is faulty when this happens. Any ever had a problem with this? I don’t even know where it is.
BTW this is a funny icon =>
I got the fuel pump relay out and I gave it a good bang on the door seal of my car. I plugged it back in and the car starts right up. I can hear the fuel pump turning on. Does anyone know how much one of those thing cost?
