Worth building a 200,000km motor?

Wow… I haven’t posted for so long.
Anyways, I have a B18A and really want to get start on a turbo. I originally wanted to do an engine swap of some sort but I don’t want to go throught the trouble.

Anyways, my B18A has 200,000km’s on it. Would it be still okay to build it (ie: rods, pistons, etc)? I’m not really concerend that it’s a B18A because I’ve been pressured to purchase a port and polished head from a B18B.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i wouldnt, the amount to rebuild it would be much better spent on a new cd player

What’s that supposed to mean?

Anyway…yeah…rebuild you’re B18A, there can never be to many miles on a motor for a rebuidl…you’re gonna love the torque of the turbo B18A…

Sweet
VTEC is overrated sometimes.

Yeah, I figured I could save some money and time without going through an engine swap.

Thanks!

yeah its worth it. plus, it would cost more to get a new engine and building it for turbo, just build the one you got now.

Also, if you’re sleeving … then the kms kinda become less relevant  … how big of a build are you planning?

You know, I was thinking about that the other day. Everybody wants those big HP numbers (ie: 300WHP) and such, but the way I see it is why do you need THAT much HP? It’s almost just for bragging rights, you know? Anyways, I’m hopefully looking at around 280HP to the crank. I figure that should be enough to give those V8 boys a run for their money

280HP is a pretty “tame” number, so is sleeving really that necessary?

Plans:

  • PnP head from B18B
  • Crower Rods
  • Pistons of somesort (SRP, Arias, etc)
  • ARP bolts and studs
  • Lightened flywheel

What else do I need/add? Is this ideal?

Amerikan layed out a setup for me a while back, but I forgot :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think resleaving is neccesary for your plans, but a block guard would be a good idea…

I feel dumb for asking this question, but what’s different about a block guard and a sleeve?

Resleeving is when new cylinder sleeves are pressed into the block, they replace the oe ones. The aftermarket ones are thicker. A block guard is pressed into the water jacket around the top part of the sleeves. They both do the same job, keep the sleeves from moving under high cylinder pressures. Resleeving costs more and can withstand higher pressures. Blockguards cost less and provide less protection. But you have to be pushing high hp (400+) to make the investment in resleeving pay off. A block guard will work great for you as long as you don’t get addicted and start turning up the boost :stuck_out_tongue:

How many times do you need to make a complete ass out of yourself before you cry yourself to sleep and never come back here? Cause I’m thinking it’s gonna happen pretty soon.

many more times:sleep:

idiot, you should be banned. this place would be much better off. Although I must admit I am enjoying making you look like an moron, although I should say it doesn’t take much.
