Would you sell your teg for a newer celica ?

i still think celicas are girls cars. you can show me all the pics of riced out celicas and tell me how fast they are until youre blue in the face but im still gonna have my opinion. is it a better car than a DA? probably but with a ton of new technology it should be. ive always like celicas and im not dissing them but when i bought my current DA i had 62 one hundred dollar bills in my hand and using any of them towards the purchase of a celica was never a thought that crossed my mind. and strictlyDA, for what its worth, i would line my car up against your lambo door havin gts any day and im not boosted

I mean if you wanna make high school girls jealous and have lower self esteem, yeah get a newer celica. If you wanna be a real man and keep it old school, keep the DA.

Hell no, don’t be some trendy a hole, ol school or no school.

I like Celicas and DA’s both.
DA’s are more my style. But Celicas are faster.
Regular Celicas do not have 4 wheel disc brakes.
I did hear that the oil pumps are prone to failure past 8000 RPM.

i would definately keep the teg man, dont get me wrong i love all imports but if u have time and money invested y would u just get rid of it, idk thats me ur gonna do watever ur gona do hope it works out for u

funny. after i sold the celica to a buddy, his oil pump went. engine was toast. that was the gts and it had about 70,000 kilometers

maybe for a celica gt4 carlos sainz

I dont remember where I read that at, but the oil pumps would literally disintegrate at high rpm and thus cause the engine to run with no oil and then go toast. I think this is where it shows Honda engines are more suited for high RPM, because I rarely hear of oil pump failure on LS, VTEC or IVTEC engines.

I’m assuming you’ve test driven said Celica? Did you like it? then go get it.

I drove an 04 Acura TL 6MT and freaking loved it. But decided buying a car isn’t the best financial decision at the moment. Another year in waiting.

:iagree:

@ “NOT Strictly DA” If u wanna compare valecia oranges with navel oranges, I would rather get a DC GSR than a Celica GTS. The Celica is more of a boy racer car, if u don’t like the chick car analogy. I’m not Honda biased, that’s the way I feel about the new Acura TL. On another note my other car is a Toyota Supra. True the GTS engine can be found in the Elise, but in that application: 1. Its a lighter car, with better suspension. 2. That engine is maxed out, any modifications will completely throw it off. Ur actually down playing it when u mention its also in the MR2 a mere shadow of the G2 MR2 Turbo.

OP if u like the Celica and have driven it compared to ur DA, do ur research about the oil pump problems and whatever else it might have. Do the research yourself don’t ask about it on a dedicated forum and expect an unbiased Opinion. I would say if u like ur car that much save up more money and keep the DA and buy the GTS.

i personally have not had one problem with my stock oil pump! at all! i been reving my engine to 8400 plenty of times. thats when my fuel cuts out on my 2000 gts. other people may have but i personally have not experienced that failure in my engine. my gts engine has been pretty good for the beaten i have done to it. But i do agree with you, the first thing monkeywrenchracing sugest when u upgrade valves and retainers and springs is to upgrade your oil pump gears or get a aftermarket which they offer it.

what i meant by the 2zzge if found is the elise and the mr-2 is just saying that its not a shitty engine as most people here think it is just because the fact they are not aware of the potential this engine has. i know the elise is a better equiped engine just becasue the fact it comes supercharged, But at the end IS the same engine

I would say if u like ur car that much save up more money and keep the DA and buy the GTS.

thats what i said before if u like the Da just keep it and save and buy a celica

with all respect to every member in this thread i will like to post a brief description of the 2zzge so those who are not aware of the engine can actually read about it before making uneducated comments

The 2ZZ-GE is a 1.8 L (1796 cc or 109.6 in³) version built in Japan. Bore is 82 mm (3.23") and the stroke is 85 mm (3.35"). It uses MFI fuel injection, has VVTL-i, and features forged steel connecting rods. Compression ratio is 11.5:1, necessitating “premium” gasoline (91 octane or above in the (R+M)/2 scale used in North America[4]). Power output for this engine varies depending on the vehicle and tuning, with the Celica, Corolla T-Sport [5][6], Lotus Elise and Lotus Exige offering 141 kW (189 hp) but the American versions of the 2003 Corolla, Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe versions only developing 180 hp[4] with all later years offering anywhere from 173 hp in 2004 to 164 hp in 2006 due to a recurved powerband. The differing power numbers from 2004 through 2006 are due to changes in dynamometer testing procedures. The Australian variant Corolla Sportivo is 141 kW@7600 and 181N·m Torque. Due to noise regulations, Toyota recalled them for a flash of the PCM to up their output to classify them in the more lenient “sports car” noise category. The Corolla Compressor and Lotus Exige S add a supercharger with intercooler to achieve 225 hp (168 kW), while the Exige 240R’s supercharger increases output to 240 hp (179 kW). The addition of a non-intercooled supercharger to the Elise SC produces 218 hp (163 kW) with a considerable weight saving. The supercharged engines are not labeled 2ZZ-GZE.

Unique to the ZZ family, the 2ZZ-GE utilizes a dual camshaft profile system (the “L” in VVTL-i, known by enthusiasts as “lift”) to produce the added power without an increase in displacement or forced induction. The 2ZZ-GE was the first production engine to combine cam-phasing variable valve timing with dual-profile variable valve timing in the American market. The table below lists the specifications of the two camshaft profiles. This is similar in concept to Honda’s i-VTEC, but the two systems are very different in design and execution.

and here in this fact it also mentions what u said about the oil pump

The oil pump is the Achilles heel of the 2ZZ, though incidents are rare and usually occur due to fault of the driver.(meaning if you are a shitty driver, you will blow your engine). Unfortunately, starving the engine of oil is almost always fatal to this particular engine design, even when caught quickly.

Toyota commissioned Yamaha to design the 2ZZ-GE and it shares several similarities with street bike engines, the most notable being the relatively high RPM design(this motor was design by YAMAHA)
all this facts can be found in here(theres to much to list i dont want to copy and paste a whole fact sheet so go here and c for yourselves

Celicas are koo bro, if anything what people said, save up and keep both. I drove my friend’s GTS, its fast, but the cabin felt weird. Once u buy it, start fixing up ur da. “Project Car” while you daily drive the celica. thats what id do.

:tsk: Any more information about a celica on a dedicated DA forum is just uber pointless. OP asked the question, people have answered, I dont believe namekteg asked for further details.

@ StrictlyDA, if you must back up the celica, please do it else where. I dont think you’re gettin your point across too much on a STRICTLYDA site :giggle:

this thread should be closed…I believe the has heard about all he is gonna hear from people on this site.

StrictlyDA…you should request to have your screen name changed, it obviously doesn’t fit you. (Been on these forums less than a month and already well broken in)
