Y pipe bypass

I seen this product somewhere but cant remember where. Its a Y pipe that has one side go to the exhaust and the other is a butterfly that opens so your turbo can flow better because it gets rid of backpressure. Please help i wanna get this done

ppl do stuff like that with the intake part, so they dont hit boost. Just get 2 v-band exhaust flanges and drop it when u wanna race and put on somethin that goes in front of the front wheel

this is the one i’m using…

Has anyone heard of people using a throttle body to do this. i have seen lots of home made kits but no one shows how to do then. anyone have any clues

I thought I saw a vacuum powered one a long time ago. The one I saw goes on the exhaust and hooks up to a line on the intake manifold and every time you reach a certain amount of boost, it opens up. As long as you arent boosting enough, it’ll stay closed. Anyone else know what I’m talking about?

Welp, after reading about this product, I decided that this would be a great solution for my car. This way I can keep my 2.25" thermal catback, and when I want to push some serious hp, I’ll flip a little switch, and it’ll be like an open downpipe (mine is 3in. already). Only hard part is going to be making the transistion between the 3 to the 2.25 since I want the 3in to be as much of a straight shot as possible. I’ll have to post picks when I get it and install it.

3" to 2.25???

get an extra wastegate and put it under the car, seems to be the easiest way to go

yea, dp is 3in, my thermal is 2.25. I’m keeping the thermal so its quiet and responsive for daily. when I want uber power (< :giggle: ) I’ll flip a switch and it’ll be like an open 3inch downpipe. :ok:

Here is my updated idea for what my exhaust is going to look like with the new bypass valve. I already have the 3" downpipe. I am going to buy a straight 3in pipe to go from the end of my dp to where the first bend is in my thermal catback. This way I don’t have to recreate all those tough bends and when I open the bypass, it’ll be a straight shot all the way from the down pipe, to the where it will exit under the car. After the bypass, I’ll just put a little piece that aims the exhaust to the ground. What do you guys think?

(as you can see, I am very talented with a pencil)

here’s how i did mine…right before the cat…

^those look exactly the same, but more expensiver. cool vids tho.

if you’re nor*cal local, blacktrax in milpitas sells and installs those, with or without the y-pipe. i have one and it’s great. i have the 3" just before the cat

On my buddies LS/VTEC. what we did was take a d seires throttle body. make a flange and put a Y pipe in the exhaust and put thre TB on there. we then linked a lawn mower throttle cable to it to open and clsoe it. it works awesome haha

hey budddy is your thing opening with boost, WOT or a handle in the car ?

my buddies lsvtec y cutout setup is with a lawn mower hand lever/cable inside the car.

dont you have to worry about it melting cause i was gonna try that?

ok. ive also thought about this. but from actually installing it in my buddies car and then running it afterwards. its pointless. why not just run opean header? it was more of a joke to people that he had it on there.
josh

open header can get obnoxious after a while. Not only for your neighbors, but for yourself too. The loudness just gets old on longer trips. Besides, when its closed, its way more sleeper!
