hey guys been researchin turbos and i heard the 14b would run out of breath so i was thinking about goin with the 16g wont take too long to spool but it will have breath a little bit higher…i dont want to have to take my car past redline so i dont need a turbo that is at full spool at 5K i need something that spools a little quicker… so long story short 16g a good turbo for this for 200whp or do i need bigger? eventually i may take it up to 250 but for now just 200…thanks in advance
16g should be fine to 200…probably more. An 18g will do 300 from what I have heard pretty efficiently.
Why not do a T3/T4 hybrid? They spoil quick and are effiencient in higher RPM’s.
i heard it takes a while for the t3/t4 hybrids to spool up…nothing against them…i wouldnt mind having one because its easier to find parts and flanges for them i just dont want to have to wait to long for it to spool up and then when it does have it throw me up to 7.5k…im trying to make a setup that i dont have to go past 7k…i have ridden with people and watch videos with t3s and it seems like it doesnt really kick in until like 5.5k and then before they shift they are already at 7.5k or higher…but if i can do a t3 and be able to boost and shift before 7K then BRING IT ON!!
A T3 and a T3/T4 hybrid are a totally different turbo. They use the same turbine side, but (in lamens terms) the exhaust side allows for it to spool faster and longer.
On T3’s it really all depends on the trim… which would be the exhaust side.
ok so a t3/t4 hybrid will spool faster and longer than a t3 and i wont have to take it to 7.5k to get the full advantage of it? i guess i should also mention that i am going for 200whp and i will be doin 8-10psi depending on what it takes to get there
i have a T3 turbo, 60 trim, on my stock B18A1 motor and at 7psi, i made 180whp and 165lb/ft tq. my car begins to spool at about 3k. this is also with a crazy amount of IC piping ran like the old DRAG turbo kits for our cars. i’m sure with shorter piping it will spool even faster. its also for sale!
there are three types of mitsubishi 16g.
small 16g (34lbs)
big 16g (36lbs)
evoIII 16g (42lbs)
all three spool very fast and make good power, especially when you consider that a 20g only flows 2lbs more than the evoIII.
a t3/t4 doesnt necessarily spool slower. you could go with a 50, 57, or 60 trim, which spool from around 4000-5000rpm, probably faster, or all the way up to something from the garrett GT series, such as the GT40, or a 60-1, all of which are t3/t4 turbos. they range from fast spooling, power making turbos, all the way to monsters that dont spool until 6000 and make crazy power as long as you want it to.
if i were you i would shoot for an evoIII 16g or a 50 trim t3/t4.
ps. the 16g series are capable of 330-375hp depending on the model.
thats sweet…integra dude what are you selling and how much are you selling for? i want moderate power that spools between 3500 to 4000 and makes power until about 6k or 6.5k so which should i shoot for with those kind of goals still teh 16g or the 50 trim t3 cause i know 8psi on one wont put out the same power as 8psi on the other i found this one that says it has full spool at 2800rpms http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7958684121&category=33742
That’s a huge turbo, I really doubt it would spool by 2800.
The tiny VW turbo’s spool at like 2300.
i dont think thats a garrett turbo “garrett internals.”
dont shoot for something thats going to stop making power at a certain time that doesnt make sense. look for a turbo that will spool when you want, and doesnt drop off before redline. an evoIII 16g will spool around 3000 and pull hard to redline. you should be able to far surpass your HP goals with it.
the VW KKK K03 is a small turbo on the 1.8t, about the size of my fist. itll spool instantly, and stops making power loonnngggg before redline.
ok the evoIII seems to be a good choice its rated at 380hp which should be fine for my application and it spools quickly so now i have to get a manifold ot go with it…i was told to go tubular and cut off the t3 flange and weld on the 16g flange…not sure what i will do yet…but the build is def. making progress (now i just have to get some money to buy all this stuff, anybody wanna donate? j/k)
Alright, perfect solution… GT25RS
i actually did a turbo search for that one on some site where it told you what you would get approx. and the best turbo for your setup…but i like the evo3 16g…it seems good…spools quickly and i can upgrade the power on it with little mod… i can just get an adjustable boost controller…im gonna start with the stock 7psi with the internal wastegate and go from there…soon that 200whp will be mine!!
good luck
thanks i will need it…got some stuff in the works for an adapter for the manifold so i can use a t3 mani…but i may just get a t3 and have a new flange welded on
begins to spool at 3k and full boost at what ?? its interesting… do you have equal lenght manifold of cast iron ?
hey clemson i know somebody that can get u a good turbo kit for a good price, includes the intercooler/ic piping, pulleys, cam gears. ive seen it, he got one for himself for his b16 swap(just got da engine installed so he’s waiting to break it n first). its a hot turbo kit. of course he got the t3/t4 hybrid, but he can get u a t3 kit cheaper than the t3/t4. lemme know and ill contact him 4 u
how much?
I hope this includes some form of fuel management.
I wouldn’t really include pulleys either. In most cases smaller pulleys on an aftermarket turbo’d car is bad. Same principal as having a lightened flywheel with turbo.
