They only way I thought of was to get a bad cluster and cut off the female plug that’s in there. The other problem we run I to is that we don’t have pins for the new “female” connector. The next thing I came up with was to find some sort of pins that will work with the male connector (original connectors) and (hopefully this makes sense), connect both the female and make connectors. Installe the pins with the wires already hooked to the new pins, once it’s done we can simply fill the female connector with glue to hold the new pins in place. The only problem will be to not get he connectors glue together. Pretty much do what the other companies do with the obd0 to obd1 harness.
I didn’t want to go and look for the pins and waste time. Since I’m not planing on selling the cluster, that’s the reason why I just went with a hard wire installation.
Where exactly is it hitting on the coilivers? Could you take a pic? I picked up a DB1 yesterday and am thinking about putting on my itr spec KW coilivers.
Ok I think I understand. It’s in the rear. I was thinking the front shocks. You wrote axle pipe and I was thinking the front axles. I have heard of the axles rubbing on the front forks when using DC/EG/ITR front shocks. I will most likely be doing this but pics this weekend would be awesome. Thanks.
My bad. I meant to. Type axle back. Your right on the axle rubbing with the shock forks when using eg/dc forks. I has to shave some material on the irk to clear the both axles. It’ seems like the curve isn’t so curved and causes the axle to hit wen your wheels are turn completely to one side. I shaved it and I haven’t rubbed any more on te axles with forks.
I picked up a rear Neuspeed strut bar. Looks similar in style as my front eibach bar. Will be stripping the ugly purple paint and see what I do with it.
Just read through the whole thread again… Damn I forgot how much attention to detail has gone into this thing. Such an awesome ‘work in progress’.
Out of everything I only have one question and critique… Do you still have the vacuum line coming off of the valve cover? If so, WHY?!? They are really easy to pull out, then you can tap/thread the hole and plug it with an allen pipe plug.
Builds like this give me motivation to want to work on mine!
Everyone tells me about the valve cover fiting. At first I left it on because I had one if those eBay filters on it. Reason why I never blocked it was because i don’t have a catch can with the fitings welded on the cover (don’t really like it) and i didn’t want to block the only hole were the motor can release some of the crank case pressure that builds up. I figure this fiting would help some since I don’t baby this motor at all. The problem came when I got the eibach strut bar. I couldn’t fit the little filter and now I hae the ugly fiting. I’m just going to find a way to get ventilation and cover the hole as you suggested since that fiting hits with my bar on hard launches.
Last Wednesday I picked up a set if ray’s gram lights 57s. They needed a full restore since the previous owner tried to paint them a different color. Picked them up for a good price so I couldn’t say no. This is the way I got the wheels.
Before.
At first I tought that these wheels were 17X7, but after I was done cleaning the wheels I looked on the spec stickers and found out they were 17X7 1/2. Although te offset was high at ET:40, I had my doubts if they would fit without having to roll my fenders. I’m not a fan of rolling fenders so I ha to test fit them before I made any more plans.
Test fitting the for any clearence issues. It sits very close but I think I can get away without having any rubbing issues.
After striping the paint and sanding the whole wheel, it was time to spray the primer.
Went on a little cruise with my friends and took some photos.
Nice come up on the wheels! Hard to believe someone would just rattle can them different colors. They must not have known what they had.
Love that last picture!
I believe the guy knew what he had, but I guess he wanted to try different colors to see what looked better. He said he has had these wheels since 2006. I’m just glad that there’s not a lot of fan of 17inch wheels over here by my area. Most people would only go 15-16.
Where do you stay at? im from ontario great work on this build man so much progress i need the s2k cluster in my life maybe if i get it you can gimme a hand with it if you stay close by!! great build again!
Thnaks for the nice words. I live in west Los Angeles about 1hr away from Ontario ca.
I finished painting the rest of the wheels and actually test fitted one of the wheels to see how it was going to look on the car. I’m satisy with the final result.
Wheels are only base coated at this stage.
Already clear coated
Test fitting one of the wheels.
I can’t wait to get my rays valve steams and the gram lights stickers. If everything works out as planned, I should have them all four on te car in about a month. Should he ready go wekfest long beach and eibach 2014.
