Just wondering i have a 194 amber led would that work and has one tried putting in 194 super white in ? let me know im thinkin of putting those in. if anyone has any pics please post
no point, the stock bulbs are already “super whites”.
led’s focus light too much. They dont spread light evenly as a regular bulb. havent you noticed that with keychain lights? They dont get hot though, so it wont burn.
you dont need to go to extremes for this to work well. Our gauge cluster was very well designed in terms of lighting. The colors of our gauge cluster work very well even with weak ghetto rigged lighting as u can see in mine.
Are there any bulbs that you may recommend for my type of job? Like, are there incandescent bulbs that will fit in there that I can buy?
Actually for an LED if you wanted to disperse the light you could always grind the LED head down to a flat surface and it will refract the light more widely.
Ive been thinking of doing LED’s myself

Ive been thinking of doing LED’s myself. You can order them actually from Superbrightleds.com but I think they didnt have the 24’s, but they do have 74’s and 194’s
well, either way, ill be rewiring right. If they dont have the 24(which i assume is the right sized bulb), ill be rewiring them anyways. But one thing still questions me, is the standard 3.8 volt LED the right one or is a 12 volt more suitable for this job. Thx guys
What size bulbs are on top? The ones that shine down on the needles? 74?24?194?
bump! Im still glow-less
nice work…i think ill be doing this when i get my jdm gsr cluster
tops are 74 I beleive.
imma prolly do the same thing, but can someone confirm that the top bulbs are 74?
Yup, the top bulb are size 74. As are all of the other little bulbs for the CEL, Hatch Ajar, etc. The ones on the outer edge are 74.
Here’s my contribution to the thread. Took me longer than I thought it would, due to the fact that I had to take my dash apart 3 times. Once because a bulb I put it was dead, and another time because my Speedo cable wasnt on correctly. Sigh, but it was worth it.
My needles look red because I took a Sharpie and colored that blue piece of plastic above the needles with a red sharpie. If you did it with an orange one, it would look amber, which would be pretty sweet. I’m happy with how it looks.
In the top pick on post #25, how did you get your gauge to look so bright and white. Even after i took off the blue covers on my bulbs, it was not that white, and not that nice looking…please do share with us,
Thanks
Vic
well actually i had to adjust some setting when i resized the pic and made it a lil brighter to make it more clear than it was but it was pretty close to it and it was just all stock bulbs. no flash. so thats why its a lil brighter b/c i adjusted the brightness and focus and something else to make it look nicer than the main pic which was blury. anything else let me know. its no longer white as u can see in further pics.
:uhoh:
I would like to know what you mean by a sharpie. I’m french but I searched in the dictionary but I don’t think it means what you actually mean here.
You painted the plastic with red paint? Transparent red paint? Or did you used red mica? Maybe red mica would work?
Thx
It’s a marker. you could use any permanant marker. If I were to do it again, I would have used an orange marker. But I still think it looks great!
i did this with blue bulbs and it looks real good but you can’t see the needles at all at night. i did take out the two bulbs the needles rely on but i was wondering if anyone knew of a way to get the needles to glow as well or is this it?
