I originally planned on Painting my booster with the Eastwood Underhood Black and rotating it 180 degrees so I could hide the hose. I cleaned it up and painted it but I really didn’t like the way it came out. In the end, I stripped down the whole thing and just polished it up nice. I hit it with about 4 coats of high heat clear to keep it from rusting. This stuff is NO JOKE. Wear rubber gloves.
Meanwhile, I figured I’d paint up the cowling cover…it had such bad orange-peel on it…I had to hand sand it down first…then I painted it up with a flat black. I like the results.
I’m on the hunt for some new OE hardware to reattach this nice. It’s the small details that count I think.
The brake line fittings I ordered are finally here. I’ll start bending up the MC lines first.
A few more parts I ordered arrived today. My 35 degree M10 x 1.0 Banjo and bolt from Summit. The angle on the fitting is way too tight…this solves the problem nicely.
here is a closer look. I apologize for the poor resolution, my camera phone is crust.
My new brake reservoir also arrived today…perfect timing. Here’s how it looks with the first line bent and mocked up. It’s coming along.
I also painted and tucked the wiper motor and harness, and cleaned up and painted the sub-frame. I looped the P/S lines to eliminate the P/S pump and lines.
Here’s how it looks as of this weekend. I got the other line bent up and ran, I got the banjo installed, I also re-finished both black horns and re-attached them as well as the hood latch assy. I took it all apart, serviced all the moving parts, painted it and re-attached it. I don’t have a pic of how it is from far away, I’ll post one up next time. This should catch everyone up.
Well, My boss asked me to go to Tampa for a week, then a wedding this coming Saturday, Then I fly to Omaha for a week so progress will be non-existent for the next two weeks. I’ll keep everyone updated as things come along. Next on the task list is to get the front suspension all back in place. Then I’ll finish up the brake tuck and tie everything in behind the dash to the prop valve. Lots more pics to come. In case everyone is wondering…still no word from Golden Eagle on my block. They don’t seem to be in any rush. I still owe them $916 so quite honestly, I’m in no rush either. Talk with you all soon.
Got home from Tampa tonight…Big day at our friend’s wedding tomorrow, then I fly out real early Sunday. I did have time to install my new remote battery terminals that came in the mail. Pics soon.
I have made some progress, I’ll post a few more pics when i figure out how to connect my new phone to my PC. I made several pretty large purchases also. More to come.
Thanks for that…it was so hot this summer, I had a hard time finding days cool enough to actually work on the car. I’ll post up some new stuff I got and where I am on the build. This was a huge undertaking but it’ll all be worth it in the end.
My nice fresh head, all Skunk2 internals. Ported and polished. It was originally on another B17…I just put a nice brand new set of Blox Spec B Cams in there with AEM Adjustable Cam Gears.
Here you can see the bungs I had made to vent the crankcase, I just used the freeze plug holes. This is an OEM head gasket I sprayed with copper spray on both sides. All ARP Hardware of course. I also mocked up my Golden Eagle Sandwich plate that came with the LS/Vtec kit. Really quality stuff.
I took my stock oil pan and had a baffle plate welded in and a bung welded on for the return line…as it turns out, the bung ended up being in the wrong place and needed to be moved to the other side. It came out right where my intermediate shaft was. I’m not sure why i had it put there to begin with, that was my mistake.
Here’s a quick mock up after I welded on the -10an bungs to vent the valve cover. I really like this wrinkle red paint so I’ll end up stripping that off and repainting it. I also wasn’t crazy with the way the block came back all oxidized, figured the hot tanking would remove most of that, so I painted it with a High Temp Aluminum Engine Enamel. I like the new look. Here it is before:
Here it is about half cooked, the wife was none too happy with the paint smell in the house again…at this point however, she just accepts crazy stuff like this as normal.
Here’s my buddy Ruben’s 550whp beast. We just finished installing his twin disk.
Here is how it sits after mocking up the intercooler…I realized later that I had it mounted too high.
I bit the bullet and spent the cash $375 in a group buy to get a nice B Series Can Degreeing Kit. It’s something I’ve been wanting for awhile and I just waited for a good deal to roll around. I cant wait to try it out. It came in a sweet Pelican Case and it came with a valve lash tool and some ball bearings that make hooking an air compressor to the vtec solenoid easy. You should always degree the cams with vtec engaged.
So I decided while i’m waiting for my turbo to get back, I’d go ahead and drop the gas tank and install my Walbro 450 Pump. The tank dropped pretty easily. The bolt underneath made draining the tank really easy. After finally getting to the nuts hidden under the black tar like substance, I was able to get the OEM pump out easily. The plan is to modify the fuel pump cap to put a -8AN bulkhead fitting, then I’ll run some -8 braided fuel line up to the fuel rail. About 2/3rd of the way up…i’ll throw a GM e85 content sensor inline and run the wire to my ECU for the S300. I also need to run a heavier gauge wire from the pump forward and put it on its own relay to keep the voltage where it needs to be. Then I’ll throw a good 40,000 micron filter in play. I’ll be using F.I.C. 2150cc injectors.
I have a lead on a really big purchase for my build…if it pans out, it’ll make all the difference in a build like this. Asking price is around $1800 but word is, the guy needs money. I’ll flash some cash I’ve been saving for my Competition Twin Disk. I have my doubts if it’s actually what i’m told it is…but I’ll find out in a few weeks if it is. I don’y want to mention what it is yet…these things are so rare, if I can get one…I’ll be stoked!! more to come.
Here is how the powerplant looks right now. I powdercoated my JDM Type R manifold black and mated it to the port matched Type R Throttle Body. I sent both these pieces off to MaxBore awhile back and had them all redone and had my TB opened up, polished, port matched and a nice new bigger butterfly put in there. I can’t wait to see what kind of power these pieces make. The throttle body was opened up from 65mm to 68mm and the inside of the mani was all ported and polished, then flow tested to optimize air flow and volume.:dance:
Next items on the list are getting my fuel system squared away, degree the cams, then order an Endyne Timing Belt tensioner and a Flui-Dampr Harmonic Balancer. In my mind, It’s cheap insurance for all the money I’ve got into this motor.
