Carbon Fiber Hiro Rep Spoilers made by JDP - Group Buy

Nice shots Colin! Thanks for letting me know on facebook you were posting these up already.
I gotta say tho…these pictures are too amazing, in this case it may just make the wing look better then actual is in person. imo.
Wing looks amazing! The weaves look better and different then the 1st batch from what i can tell.
From the first batch wings, i didnt like the weaves because when layed ontop of a vis or seibon cf trunk, it looked funky. Heres a picture of how it looked with a 1st batch cf jdp wing and a VIS cf hatch.
Heres a pic of the cf 1st batch hiro wing

Am i crazy or does it look like they didnt add much flat mounting surface on the bottom of the wing compared to a pancake wing? I might be trippen. I can see the mounting hardware you got and seems like its very similar to the one i use when installed at that angle ofcourse.
Well heres a picture to compare of the pancake wing i had, with the mounting hardware i got from the first batch jdp wing.

One thing is Colin, i would like to see this wing next to a real hiro, and a pancake wing to see the real difference.
Also i understsnd you just mocked it up, but would like to see it fully mounted, and a picture of the side of it. Because the replicas seem to have a gap that looks alil ugly imo. As to where the real hiro looks flush to the body of the edge of the quarter panel.

If you have time Colin, measure the bottom of the middle of the wing to the top of the middle of the trunk. And i will compare to the wings me and my friends have. Seems like every replica being made, it sits higher and higher everytime they replicate it than the previous “batch”(pancake, jdp, g2ic group buy)off of the trunk then the measurements of the authentic hiro wings. Just a few things ive been curious about.

Reason why i never did the cf hood/trunk combo.
Hated to look like a Panda!
Im right w you bro lol

Thanks Carlos. Looks like the other one was a more fine weave it looks like? And I see what you mean about the material on the mounting area, but instead of “more” or “less” it looks like a slightly different angle. You might be right about the amount of material in the mounting area, it does look different to me as well, but who knows, we’d have to measure it. You’re more than welcome to come over sometime and check it out or compare to any of your others. And I can measure and take pics of anything else you need.

In regard to fitment with the quarter panels, that is still a mystery. At first I was looking at it thinking it looked like a large gap - but the hatch wasn’t closed. So it really depends on that factor. I didn’t want to close it because the brackets barely held the wing on and I didn’t want to risk having it fall off and hit the floor. I’ve got my fingers crossed though cause I think that for sure could make or break it. And if the blade of the wing is getting higher each time I can get down with that as I suspect the wing could be more effective up a little higher. It probably makes it look worse though, haha!

Ha! Dont close the trunk if the hardware doesnt feel like its on there good. My buddy messed up on mounting his pancake and it slipped and cracked on the floor a bit. Ouch! I can relate tho, stuff like that happens , especially w these tricky brackets!

I like how u said the wing being made higher would be more effective,…but worse looking. Lol

Well if u feel that the “c” bracket screws are too short and it doesn’t provide enough support, just get some aluminum plates to sandwich in between the hatch and the screws… worked for me. wing is secure

That’s not the problem I had with the bracket I borrowed. And it doesn’t matter anyway because we won’t be using this same bracket that I borrowed, I simply used it to mock up and compare.

Wings HAVE to be made in two pieces when they’re glass or carbon.

Even ‘quality’ pieces from Mugen are.

I’ve had to fix a Mugen Gen1, a Mugen Gen2 and have seen a third that was cracking at the seam.

Cloth products don’t like making sharp bends. And even if you use a vacuum bag, the chance of air bubbles on sharp radius areas are very high.

When making a wing, or other two-piece product the angles are extremely important. Otherwise pulling the piece out of the mold will be impossible.

It really is a lot more work than most people know.

They look pretty Damn good though guys.

^ yup… my 1st gen looks same from what I can tell

Thanks for that clarification Sean! Now I want to see some pics of other wings to see how they dealt with the seam.

The wing looks really good Colin, and like wingbox expressed, compared to other replicas I have seen it seems to be of good quality!

Im interested in seeing it mounted, and I am really regretting not getting in on the buy :frowning:

yes the wings are made in two pieces. which is why they start cracking from the edge very easily.

All this talk of cracks chips and chunks :frowning:

Sorry man, i understand how you feel LOL

but check it out, my pancake wing when i got it. I got the cracks filled in with the fiberglass bondo stuff and they still came back from too much stress of the way i mounted it.

Whoa. Thanks for all the pics and detail Colin! Looking forward to getting mine early next week.

Wondering if I was suppose to get a email, have only received one from around the time when I made the deposite. Would like an update on my wing

Theyre being sold in order of deposits. So if you were slow to send your deposit then you will be of the last to get your wing. I think earlier in the tread they said it was 3 a week after the mold was done or something like that.

But out of curiosity, how many wings have been made already?

At least 2 are finished, Jon may have a more current update.

I remember reading it, I figure about a month to a month and a half for a set of 3 to be made, and also jdecks said JDP would contact us individually with payment info in the order deposits were made, i.e. I’ll be the very last mofo to get theirs :sipread:

I know that two were finished, mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Looks like I will need some brackets soon  . My guess is that wings #3 & 4 should go out very soon. As mentioned, don’t bother counting weeks etc at this point. Production is moving, so just be patient.

Got my wing yesterday. One minor issue with one forward facing edge from shipping. Not a huge deal since it won’t be visable when mounted. I will post more detail when I get time, but honestly this thing is beautiful. Pending no issues with final fitment I will be a happy camper. I think it’s going to look bad ass on my car.
